...A city of some 45,000 people, Perth sits on the crossroad of the major routes to the Highlands of Scotland. Good quality roads from Edinburgh and Glasgow and a regular rail service (if a little slow) from both these cities.
During the summer months Perth has many passing tourists who find the quiet charm of the city a welcoming place. Many visitors will use the city as a base to explore further into major centres of population or unspoilt wilderness depending on what is wanted.
The city has a range of accommodation from a youth hostel, B&B, hotels and many eating places to suit most budgets.
I have always found the local people friendly and helpful - but do not expect the organised tourist centres of the larger cities.
In winter, Perth acts as a base for many skiers, less than an hour away from the Scottish Ski slopes. These same...

Advantages: No hassle Disadvantages: Expensive to take guests
...In November 1999 we left a cold, wet and windy Gatwick and 10 hours later arrived in a sunny St Lucia just as Hurricane Lenny was leaving!!
We stayed at Rendevous a all inclusive resort near Castries which was lovely small quiet and just what we had hoped for.
The arrangements for the wedding had all been made by the co ordinater. They had even arranged for us to meet the lawyer to sign the affadavits in the hotel. We spoke to the photographer to select what photos but there was no hard sell. ...****Thank God for the internet!!!! ****
**Location**
Perth is a large town located 30 minutes away from Dundee
**Getting there**
Perth is easy to visit by car, train or bus,and there is loads of nice views surrounding it.
**Staying there**
I haven't had any experience staying in a hotel or bed and breakfast since i live in Perth but there are loads to choose from. Beware if you are like me and love luxury hotels you will be disappointed as the best Perth offers is 3 star hotels. One being Ramda Jarvis plus there are two others that i know off.
**Shopping**
The main shopping street is the high street which is not that big and there is a shopping centre called St Johns. There are about 15 shops in it - the better ones being Jane Normans and Topshop.
A few years ago we had an Ann Summers but the"old farts" decided to complain about...

I lived in New York City for a few years, but had little experience of its hotels until after I'd moved away. My husband and I stayed in the Library Hotel in late August of 2004 for two nights. After spending a few nights in one of its sister hotels the... more
