    Advantages Advantages Really uplifting and positive with great songs

    In the words of the writer himself, Jonathon Larson, “Rent is about a community celebrating life, in the face of death and AIDS at the turn of the century”. This pop/rock musical is a modern take on Puccini’s opera, La Boheme, replacing the 19th Century threat of tuberculosis with the late Twentieth Century threat of AIDS. Despite the fact that this musical deals with some very serious issues, including homelessness and AIDS, the musical as a whole has a very positive feel to it.     First of all apologies that this review is categorised under "New York Musicals" - unfortunately I didn't fly over to the Big Apple to see this, but instead had to make do with the slightly less glamorous surroundings of Leicester. Rent is currently on tour across the UK. It's a musical and covers two main issues - the impact of AIDS and the 1980s New York rent riots. However it is one of those shows where it doesn't really pay dividends to concentrate on the plot, you are much better off switching your brain off and enjoying the ride.     Great show!!!!!!! This was he first ever show i went to see when i first moved over to NYC so it holds a special place in my heart and also because it was mine and my boyfriends first date so to speak!!! awwww! lol Its a very explosive show with one very very cathcy song "500, 25,000, 600 minutes..........." or at least there the words i sing! and with the entire cast singing the song it really blows you away and makes a real impact. With set and the costumes its a very 80's show and feels very 80's which is what they were going for and really acheived it. th set being quite basic but ... more
