The Cretans (don't like the word but I guess its appropriate!) as such friendly people. I detected that they warm particularly to visitors from UK - we appear to treat the shopkeepers and hotel worker with respect which is not necessarily the case when it comes to other ... ...diversity of scenery - for example you can walk along a beach, but still have the mountains to one side and the sea to the other. The scenery is unbelievable - reminiscent of the absolute wild highlands of Scotland. The come across a mountain, traverse it (by car or bus) and around the corner is another one!
We have yet to find a town/place which is not appealing. Everywhere we have gone we have had a warm welcome. It is a value-for-money ... more

The island has a diversity of scenery - for example you can walk along a beach, but still have the mountains to one side and the sea to the other. The scenery is unbelievable - reminiscent of the absolute wild highlands of Scotland. The come across a mountain, traverse it (by car or bus) and around the corner is another one!
We have yet to find a town/place which is not appealing. Everywhere we have gone we have had a warm welcome. It is a value-for-money island and you will love the whole experience. We return later this month.

I visited Crete last month and for the first time I tried to avoid world-wide companies like Herzt, Avis etc as they kept to overcharge me with extra insurances that were NOT included to my original quote. www.justrentals.gr is a local company with new cars and very god service. Their representative named Giorgos was very friendly and gave us all the necessary information in order to start our journey without to worry allthough it was very early hours. I will definitely be using again www.justrentals.gr as I have my own house in Crete and I go there at least five times per year. ...

Crete is a beautiful island full of lot of sandy beaches, lovely people and nice food. I would recommend staying increte itself for 2 weeks as you wouldn't get to do everything that you needed in one week.
The best way to get around the island is by car, warning do not buy/rent a motorbike there are sooo many accidents in the island of crete involving motorbikes. This is why the price of renting a motorbike is soo cheap. I recommend you rent a car for around $50 euro a week.
I went in the middle of May Time the tempreture was around 29'C which was perfect and there wasnt too many people around. Avoid going in August as it will be swamped with children.
The flight time was around 2 hours and 50 minutes and it was a comfortable flight. Im sure a quick sleep on the flight would kill time
