Residence Excellior Hotel, Cannes

Advantages: Great place for people watching
Disadvantages: a tacky novelty that wore off quickly

...This summer I was lucky enough to spend a good bit of time touring the South Of France. It was a voyage of discovery and wonderment and I am going to share with you my experiences of Cannes. If you want historical facts about the place, or a list of hotels...you will not find it here.... but enjoy nonetheless. Funzo's Fantastical French Follying Adventures (the catchy name I gave my trip) had to take in Cannes. Driving along the south coast after a dissapointed day in the overcrowded, far too English resort of Nice, Cannes seemed an ideal box to tick and the 40ft Motorhome trundled laboriously along the picturesque if not scary coastal road that can take you from Monaco to Marseille with the sea never leaving your eyeline. Advantages: This is one amazing hotel with everything you want in one of the greatest cities of France
Disadvantages: pretty much non-affordable for normal folks

...In september 2000 I was invited to the presentation of OPEL´s new car called Corsa. I was surprised that they did this presentation not in germany, but in Cannes, France. Furthermore I was really happy to see which hotel OPEL booked for the 3 day stay of their exclusive customers: The world famous Carlton Intercontinental Hotel at Cannes... Famous, some of you might ask and I say yes, famous it is. Most of you know that european film festival every year at Cannes. That hotel there is that historic building in which all the major actors, directors and plenty of wannabe´s are staying. The building itself is under a historic building law in france and so to uphold business in there the owners have to spent lots of money quite frequently to rebuild the beautiful historic outside of the hotel. Advantages: Unbelievably great service, opulent , great restaurants and facilities
Disadvantages: none, except it is not free so you can't just live there

...I stayed here for four nights on my honeymoon and it is absolutely the best hotel in Cairo in my opinion. Actually not just mine - travelling business class I was waiting in the check in line talking to someone who lived in Cairo checking in first class who asked me which hotel and immediately said - "oh, that's the one" when I told them this one. There are two Four Seasons Hotels in Cairo - this is the newer of the two I think. It wasn't cheap but my goodness it was outstanding. The service was like nothing I have ever experienced. Example: I was reading my book on a sun lounger by the pool - they have pool waiters for drinks, towel check people who give you a special sheet-type towel to go over your sun lounger with a pocket for the head cushion, and another towel to dry yourself with, they bring you sun cream if you ask etc etc...
