...overlooking the river is the number one tourist attraction. It is very popular so it is best to get there early in the morning. The old town is very interesting.There you will find the town hall, a complex of buildings erected between the 14 th and 19 th centuries. A huge clock on an outside wall shows the 12 apostles,Jesus,a sleleton, and a cockerel when it strikes the hour. Also in the old town is the Baroque Clementinum. Once a Jesuit College,it now houses the state library of the Czech Republic. Prague is one of Europe's great cultural centres.Charles University dates back to the 14 th century and this lovely city has been home to the likes of Rilke,Kafka,Kundera and the playwright turned President Vaclav Havel. Advantages: Fantastic city, plenty to do and see, beer still relatively cheap
Disadvantages: City is loosing some of its authencity by becoming Westernised with the likes of McDonalds popping up

GENERAL INFORMATION Prague is the capital city of the relatively small Czech Republic, which lies in the heart of Europe, neighbouring with Germany, Austria, Slovakia and Poland. If like us you are travelling from Europe you needed worry about visas. The majority of locals spoke English, which was a Godsend as Paul, and l spoke zilch Czech and our attempts to do so with the help of our guidebook were pathetic to say the least! Advantages: beautiful buildings, fab city

...but is currently shut for restoration work although I imagine it can still be visited if you attend a service. If you walk down the alley at the side of the church you come to a very picturesque square and just across the road from that is the Church of St Jakub. This is worth a visit if only to see the dessicated arm of a thief strung up as a warning to other would be thieves! The Jewish quarter is a worthwhile place to visit (although obviously not on a Saturday). I don't think it can be classed as a tourist attraction as some bits of it are much too poignant - in particular the Pinchas Synagogue. On the other side of the Charles Bridge is the Mala Strana or Little Town which again is full places of interest. My favourite church in all of Prague is St Nicholas Church which is a baroque extraveganza with lavish statues of the various saints... Read review
