The Geography
The Bay of Sorrento is a lot larger than I had expected. My original preconception was of a small sleepy Italian fishing village that would provide a useful starting point to explore the local areas of interest. A travel book and a few reviews on Ciao later that opinion was quickly changed. Sorrento itself is made up of five communes with Sorrento Town itself providing the main shopping and commercial centre.
The centre of Sorrento is Piazza Tasso which is bisected by the Corso d' Italia which is the main thoroughfare and in the evenings is closed to traffic to allow the locals and visitors alike to parade along in all their finery. Sorrento is a very pleasant town to spend time in, but it is also an ideal base for exploring the whole region. Package holidays tend to offer organised tours to Pompeii, Vesuvius, Capri, and Amalfi, normally as an optional extra, and at a price. However, it?s very easy from Sorrento to organise these trips for yourself. The public transport is excellent, reliable, and cheap. Set your own agenda and you will save a packet and have the freedom to spend as much or as little time in each venue as you please. Compare that with paying over the odds, and being rushed round at someone else?s pace, and you know it makes sense.

Sorrento was one of the most beautiful places i have ever visited in my life. My family and I decided to go to the south of Italy for pure pleasure and to enjoy the civillians of Sorrento's loving and welcoming nature.
The hotel we picked was spot on - not in a busy, touristy packed resort but in a place where we could relax a bit and enjoy the scenery of the beautiful town of Sorrento. It also isn't long walk from the town centre depending on how much you like to walk!
This Hilton hotel was one of the last places we picked to have a look at (probably because Paris Hilton came into our minds!), but we booked it in the end because of the quality of the hotel based on reviews.
