We stayed at the HôtelRestaurant La Flambée in Bergerac in November 2008 for two nights and enjoyed breakfast and dinner. What follows is an honest account as possible about the hotel as I can provide. Hopefully this may help if you are planning to visit this part of the world.
We flew to Bordeaux but the most convenient airport for the hotel is actually in Bergerac as the hotel lies about 2 miles outside the town. Incase you are not familiar with this part of the world these places are in the main wine growing areas, and are in South West France. Flying time from the UK is about an hour and a half if you are flying from the London areas. Easyjet will take you to Bordeaux from Luton, likewise British Airways will fly you from Gatwick, and Ryanair will fly you from Stansted to Bergerac. I am surprised that no one has written about the beautiful island of Montserrat and how it was before the terrible volcano.
Montserrat is a small island in the west indies, (roughly 4 miles round) very close to Antigua and Barbuda which you can see from Montserrat on a clear day (which is usually)!
The Island has much greenery and is named the Emerald Isle. This stems from when the island had Irish inhabitants during the times of the Slave Trade. There are still Irish influences on the island, especially when you notice the Montserratians surnames.
There is also a strong English influence on the island, place names such as Plymouth (it's capital) and the sight of Red phone and letter boxes.
Much of the island is greenery, and the roads are dirt tracks; there are no traffic lights on the island.

Ballater has 9 hotels, 8 guest houses, 9 B&Bs, 25 self catering sites, 2 campsites, 2 caravan sites but no hostels. You could always phone her majesty if you get stuck, I?m sure she?d have a spare room at Balmoral to ?shack up?!!
Although it can get cold here in the winter, in summer the Cairngorm mountains shelter Ballater & give it a rather pleasant climate.
Ballater has 17 restaurants; some are listed below, one bank with an ATM, one Post Office & a medical centre.
The biggest events in Ballater include Victoria week, Ballater Highland Games (The Queen attends the Breamar games in September) & Royal Deeside walking week.
