...treatment at the hands of Air Canada before I forget the fine, scintillating details...
We chose Air Canada for the following reasons:
- A stop-over was needed to secure the deal we wanted, and Toronto is a good place to break the flying monotony.
- Aside from some random Canadian marines, Canada has no direct military presence or involvement in Iraq which minimises the threat of danger and/or disruption and cancellation caused by terrorist threat.
... ...I'm thinking twice about using Air Canada (particularly via Toronto) again because:
- Their ground-staff have redefined the word "inefficiency" (look in the picture dictionary and it's an Air Canada uniform).
- My luggage has spent an extraordinary amount of time sitting around in Toronto enjoying the sights while I've been elsewhere.
- The current spread of Air Canada operations in the under-refurbishment Toronto Pearson Airport are so convoluted ...

Advantages: Worked as advertised Disadvantages: Nothing worth talking of
...search for flights, British Airways, Air Canada and American Airlines stood out as being the most keenly priced. As the plans became more developed, American dropped out of the reckoning when both flights were routed through Canada. British Airways did compete well with regard to frequency of flights, but lost out on price. So Air Canada it was then.

I had been monitoring this site for several months, waiting to see if the price dropped as we got nearer the departure date. This can be a risky business but the site makes it possible to access a seat plan for any given flight and check availability of seats. This makes it possible to play ‘chicken’ a little better and actually have some indication of how popular the flight is, and judge when you want ...

Air Canada
On my recent trip to Toronto from Manchester (sse my review of the Hilton Toronto!), I decided to fly using the direct service form Manchester to Toronto. This direct route operates daily departing Manchester at 11.35 and arriving mid-afternoon. It departs Toronto for the return flight at 10pm arriving back in Manchester mid-morning.
During the summer (and peak tourist) months, the airline adjusts its two class system from Business and ... ...I booked using the Air Canada website. As I like to know what I am getting myself into I had done quite a lot of research before hand about Air Canada including the types of planes used and the different classes of service. Having looked around I found the best prices offered on the AC flights were available by booking directly on their website.
As with most airlines nowadays, you can check prices and availability and then confirm your seats, adding ...

...the misfortune to fly with Air Canada upon leaving Australia, on my way to Hawaii. Misfortune might be too harsh a word but I will let you decide once you have heard about my 10 hour trip with them.
[Check-in]
We arrived at Sydney airport with plenty of time to check in, at least 3 hours. We departed from Melbourne on a Qantas flight at around 6 am, arriving at 7 am, thus 3 hours for a 10.30 am departure should have been more than sufficient. Because ... ...more happy passengers? But no, Air Canada insist on all passengers forming a line, which snaked from one end of the airport to at least a third of the way down towards the other end ( and Sydney International Airport is HUGE!)
Next problem, the US requirements for baggage is 2 check-in bags per passenger. I guess its because we are going to Hawaii, but there were several passengers with huge boxes, not your average removal boxes, but like the boxes ...

Advantages: Pleasant Cabin Crew, Star Alliance Member Disadvantages: Unhelpful Ground Staff, Poor Ground Staff
...LHR-YUL THE FLIGHT
Air Canada has a seat pitch of 33in again more genourous than other 'worlds favourite airlines'.
The plane I travelled on was an Airbus A330-300 which was fine apart from AC's colour scheme of 'mucky green' covers on the seats seemed to make it look old and dated. The cabin crew were quite friendly but they seemed to be quite tired looking and a bit more mature looking than other airlines! One major drawback with Air Canada is ... ...and stressed out thanks to Air Canada. I've learnt my lesson the hardway in that it pays to spend a little more and FLY DIRECT!!!
Those of you who are still reading this and have'nt fallen asleep by now, my return journey was a totally different ball game as Air Canada played by the rules and it all went like plain sailing!! even though it was a reverse of my outbound flights.
More seems alot more easier to get back to the UK!
or perhaps they ...

Advantages: Daytime flight from Toronto to London Disadvantages: Everything else
...suffer all the other disadvantages. Air Canada offers a daytime flight from Toronto to London, leaving at 9.am. and landing at 9p.m. It's great because you don't lose a night's sleep, and can go straight to bed when you arrive, and be ready for anything the next day. I only ever fly Air Canada to take advantage of this.
I really don't know where to start with the downside. Remember, this is coming from a Canadian, so take any comments I make in ... ...but very inefficient. Except that Air Canada staff seem to have forgotten the friendly bit, and just stick to the inefficient. I do not exaggerate when I say that the most surly service I have ever had on a plane has been with Air Canada - and that includes the low-costs. One example. I was flying with my son, and his headphones didn't work. We alert a flight attendant who basically informs us there is nothing she can do about it. We ask for a new ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Lost luggage, uncomfortable, rude staff
...spend time to review it. Air Canada is definitely one airline I would never fly with again.
Comfort
Firstly, let us start with my departure to Toronto, from Edinburgh, connecting through Frankfurt. Once on my long-haul flight lasting over 8 hours, I sat down in my small economy class seat. Provided was a blanket, and magazines. How considerate. After watching rude flight crew dart up and down the aircraft, we were soon preparing for take-off.
... ...person into that cabin. The air was unpleasant, and the smell of disgusting food filled the air.
Entertainment
As for in-flight entertainment, we were provided with a small 4” screen, mounted at the front of the cabin. Luckily, I was close to it, so could barely make out what was going on. However, the poor souls a little further back would be quite lost. The movies were mediocre, and they showed Home and Gardening television, along with an hour-long ...

We choose to fly Air Canada (Aug 2007) from Toronto to LA as it was the national airline. Even though ticket prices were considerably higher than anticipated we choose Air Canada secure in the knowledge that the flight was an international flight and the service, seating etc was as high a standard as any national airline.

Advantages: Very nice, friendly staff Disadvantages: Flights through dreaded Toronto airport
I recently flew with Air Canada from Glasgow to Atlanta (via Toronto), and would summarise the good and bad points of Air Canada as follows.
On the good side the staff are friendly, the seats comfortable and by the fact that we didn’t have any hassle on any flights say to me that they do their job really well.
On the bad side as an international passenger flying Trans-Atlantic if you are going to fly with them then you’re likely to have to go through ... ...pretty promptly after take-off. Indeed Air Canada are not too forthcoming with drinks for most of the flight. Also while my food was okay, my girlfriends’ diabetic meal was pretty uninspiring.
Not a bad choice for flying to North America, but try to avoid Toronto Airport if you are going to fly with them. ...

...Canada and we had flown Air Canada. ...what airline do I use? Air Canada of course. Actually your more forced too. With the demise of Canadian Airlines, Canada 3000, Royal Airlines and with WestJet just starting to expand, Air Canada is almost your only choice when flying in Canada.
