I doubt I'll be Flying AI Again!

Advantages: good quality and quantity of food and comfortable seats
Disadvantages: almost ALWAYS delays, overly laidback staff

...AI (INCORPORATING IA) Air India (AI) is the only state-owned airline of India which merged with Indian Airlines (IA) in September 2007. It connects through over 145 international and domestic destinations worldwide including internal flights in India via Air India Express and Indian Airlines. Air India previously had a very poor reputation as a rather shoddy airline with poor customer service and rather ramshackle aircrafts. They have tried to update ...
...meals to cater for diabetics. Air India's recent merger with Indian Airlines has meant that is now the biggest South Asian airline and they're in the process of ordering new aircraft to add to their 200 strong fleet. Air India has a Maharajah lounge (meaning Emperor or King's lounge) in 5 of its major destination airports which are, Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi in India, London in UK and New York in USA. MY EXPERIENCE I flew Air India recently for ...

The adventures of the Maharajah

Advantages: food, sometimes!
Disadvantages: read review

...maharajah for the splendid mid air adventure! Nothing compares to this, me thought! I wont bother on the other stuff...but eh, the food was pretty decent..and the films were from genre worse to worst! Of course, the chaos at Delhi, and the utter mis-management at Delhi is another issue, and I won’t elaborate further! All in all, we had every penny worth of our ride with the maharajah! So much so, that we are satisfied for quite some eons! Some days ...

Enjoyable Journey

Advantages: Price/informative website
Disadvantages: Wait for Baggage at Heathrow

...to Chicago I came across Air India. These tickets were available on most sites and were 180 pounds for an adult ticket, 50 pounds for an infant. I was abit nervous to book not knowing much about airlines but the price decided the issue!! We flew in mid October. Check-in was efficient and helpful, especially as my wife and I were travelling with a young child. On request, we were allocated a seat at the front of the economy section with space in front ...
...in traditional Indian dress - a different colour/style returning than going and were very aware of our needs carrying a young child. We were given a colourful soft ball at take off and another toy on landing to help distract her attention. Food served onboard was good - a choice of Indian or English for lunch and a lovely Semosa before landing. They also served packets of spicy snacks rather than the normal peanuts. The flight was very smooth and ...

Air Inida- Terrible

Advantages: cheapness of price considering it was New Year
Disadvantages: most things

I decided to fly with Air India because it was the cheapest flight we could find to go to New York at New Year and because we were on a budget the price was good at just under £200. I did have reservations about flying with them as I didn't know what they were like, I hadn't heard anything particulary bad and was reassured by a few people that have flown with them fairly regulary. Check in/ security before flight- All was good when we went to check ...
...them through it was the Air India staff at this point not adhering to the rules (and without meaning to be discrimitory and hopefully I'm not, it was the people that seemed to be of indian nationality that were not adhering to it). It was clearly openly ignored and not enforced! The rule is obviously there for a reason. Luggage pickup- On entering NY three out of the four of us found our luggage easily but the fourth person could not find their ...

Cheap, but not chearful

Advantages: Its cheap and the only Airline that'll serve you a curry!
Disadvantages: Understaffed, Check-in takes ages and service is slow

Air India, the Airline that serves you curries! Great! And its cheap too Great! And if those are your priorities and dont mind waiting in LONG, SLOW queues then this is the Airline you. I flew from London to New York with Air India recently, which set me back next to nothing. The flight cost £200!! (£50 of which is Airport tax)so that's quite a good deal, I though. Once I got to Heathrow, though I began to see how they managed to keep their prices ...
...stop there. On the runway, Air India has low priority in terms of take-off queues. They pay less for their take-off slot at Heathrow than other Airlines and therefore have to yield to anything that wants to take off before them. Great. So invariably you will arrive a little later than anticipated. Once you arrive in JFK, you have to queue again, whilst waiting for you luggage. First they unload all the luggage that was loaded in India, and I have ...

Great Value

Advantages: Great value
Disadvantages: Long queues when checking in

...York and I travelled with Air India as they were the cheapest I could find (on the website www.241.com). Despite the cheap prices, the service from the crew was what you would expect - friendly and helpful. The food on the flight was very good especially for curry lovers but if you don't like curry then there are alternative meals. In-flight entertainment mainly consisted of India films and programs with English subtitles. I did not enjoy this but ...
...have one major gripe about Air India and that is the long queues when checking in. Flying from Heathrow wasn't too bad but on the return journey I had to queue up for 2 hrs before I managed to check in! I would certainly travel with Air India and I can't see any reason to pay more for other air lines when the service is the same. ...

...time, too warm and the air conditioning wasnt working until the plane had been given the go ahead. Then upon take off, the cabin had once again become an igloo, with the air conditioning uncontrolably blasting from every crevice that had seemingly been blocked up when the plane had difficulties. This is not the choice for anyone who has a hernia over puncuality, detests temperature extremes and expects the paying customer to get what the request, ...

OK but not great

Advantages: Bombay Mix
Disadvantages: too many foreigners

I travelled home from Bombay (Mumbai) in the summer on Indian Airlines and was reasonably impressed. The flight was only an hour late, which is good by Indian standards -they had to get disabled people on. Although I must say that the cabin crew were quite miserable and snappy, although I guess you would be too if you still has to serve a Briton fifty years after independence. The best bit was getting Bombay mix instead of peanuts. They also put ...

Bugget prices and longhual travel

Advantages: cheap flights
Disadvantages: usually crowded, and unpredictable

My trip on Air India was a little daunting. I travelled from london Heathrow to New York on the 1st September and paid £286 return. I found this really cheap and was nearly £200 less than the new closest airline. I had my resvervations about travelling with an airline like this. For the most part the people on board were transit passangers from different cities in India to New York, but there were several other people boarding with me in London. ...
...me, the flights were cheap. However, it was a little bit chaotic when trying to board, they waited for all the transit passengers to come through before letting us through, and we stood up and waited for at least 30 minutes. There were few staff around and none of the other passengers seemed to hurry. Once on the plane I found it was hard to hear anything because of the crying babies. All the seats were full, and it definately wasn't Britsih Airways. ...

Cheap and Cheerful!

Advantages: Cheap, really good curry, good legroom
Disadvantages: Comfort if you are tired

I flew to New York from London last week and have to say that I really enjoyed our outgoing flight after reading BAD reviews almost everywhere I looked! Check-in time was exactly the same as anywhere else I have flown, queues were a bit longer getting on to the plane as it is a connecting flight and they have to get everyone off and tidy very quickly. The food was great, you have a choice of a veg Indian or meat Indian meal (more options are available ...
...tasted as good, if not better than a great curry house. My friend had opted for the 'western' meal, which although boring, still disappeared as fast as our delicious curry! With Kingfisher beer (or Carlsberg) to finish off, we were very happy indeed. The service was good, the crew come round with 'Bombay mix' style snacks, which we all really like with our drinks.. We were in a group of 4 and quite excited so I have to say the normal movie experience ...

I took Air India to New York from Heathrow last year. The plane was three hours late (not an uncommon experience, apparently) as it was late leaving India where many passengers had already embarked. Although it was allegedly cleaned during its refuelling at Heathrow, when I got on it looked, and smelled, like an Indian restaurant after a friday night visit by a group of drunken football hooligans. The staff were rude, and very reluctant to serve ...

Trials and tribulations of a trip to India

Advantages: An amazing experience for anyone interested in travel. India has it all and more.
Disadvantages: The visa is only valid for 6 months. Otherwise I would have stayed for 12.

...service. The second was with Air India Express, and it was dire. The staff, as hard as they were trying were having a very hard time of it, as anyone who has been some time in India will testify. Indians are as well as being lovely people, are noisy, impatient, ill-disciplined and can be down right hard work to deal with......... Makes me laugh!!! First we had a security scare whereby someone was refused permission to fly and had to have bags removed. ...

Then a couple of bright sparks amongst them, decided to threaten to sue everyone but me on the plane for taking their seats. It was incredible. All this construed to make us an hour late in taking off, by which time the man who started the arguments said the man who was originally in his seat could return to it as he was not worried about sitting ...

Air India. The World's most dangerous Airlines.

Advantages: Cheap rates
Disadvantages: NO GUARANTEE OF LIFE

I would like to that air india is one of the world's most dangerous airlines. you may disagree with me on the topic but this is a fact what I say. There are a lot of reasons for this. First of all india is facing a lot of seperatist movement within the country and these peaple often try to hijack the plans of indians airlines. Only two months ago one of the plane of indian airline was hijacked from nepal from time to date, a lot of individual and ...
