    Advantages Advantages Cheap!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Food is pretty horrendous

I have recently returned from a two week holiday in Canada, flying with Air Transat. This was an airline I'd not heard of before, and in fact I didn't know I'd even booked with them, because I'd booked through a website called Globespan.com, and thought they were the actual airline. As I have now discovered, Air Transat are actually a charter airline, and you book with them via travel agents, including Globespan. Despite being a charter airline, they have a scheduled service throughout the year. ----------Airports--------- Air Transat fly from Belfast, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, Economy flights, No frills

Disadvantages Disadvantages Possible delays Use older aircraft.

This review is from my experience travelling by an Economy no frills Trans-Atlantic airline. There is nothing really special here but I thought I should share my experience, which isn’t always doom, and gloom you generally experience with no frills airlines. I was invited to visit my friends in Toronto for the summer last year and I jumped at the chance. It was a country I had wanted to visit for a while and the offer was one I could not turn down. January last year I began trawling the Internet for flights and prices and was astounded by the cost of the flights to Canada starting figure ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great cabin crew

Disadvantages Disadvantages Limited due to being a budget airline; food wasn't so great

Booking through Canadian Affair, our airline for travelling to Canad recently was Air Transat. In all honesty, we had no dealing with them apart from getting on and off the plane, as everything was pre-booked and pre-paid with the travel operators beforehand. We arrived and booked in just over 3 hours before the flight left Gatwick for Canada, and this was smooth and painless, despite an employee going through the line saying they had overbooked and did anyone want to volunteer to postpone their flight for a day, with compensation, obviously. We didn't, but I understand that this is not an ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap, Direct

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Service

At all cost I try to avoid flying charter but at the time of booking my holiday to Victoria, (BC, Canada) I preferred to have the extra £200 in my pocket than in an airlines, so one of the the Canadian charter company's Air Transat were offering the best deal and I booked with them. Apart from saving money the other advantage of flying Air Transat was that I could fly to Vancouver without having to change planes (I'm a strong believer that if you don't change planes you have more chance of getting your luggage at the other end and less chance of being delayed). Although I was going to Victoria ... more

Advantages Advantages Very cheap - Half price of British Airways

Disadvantages Disadvantages Smaller seats; No fancy extras like with BA

Normally, my parents book flights well in advance, and up until now we have always flown British Airways. This Summer, however, we left it much later before booking a holiday, partly because many people say it is cheaper to book late, and partly because we had already booked a flight to Rome in October, making the Summer holiday slightly less important (normally we stay at home during October and have our main holiday in Summer). However it soon became apparent that we were not going to get a decent holiday at any price, when we went to numerous travel agents with no luck. Finally, we settled ... more

Advantages Advantages cheap, fast, direct, and (sometimes) comfertable flights

Disadvantages Disadvantages (ussually) uncomfortable. BAD services. POOr seats.

The only reason we chose this flight was because it had a VERY low price, compared to the other airlines. We booked this flight in around Sept/2004 and were leaving on it on oct/15/04. Conpared to the other reviews i think this sirline was better. they have made some MAJOR changes on their flights. I heard the charges of their headphones were $5 can. but not now, they changed it to $2 can. The meals were the not the best, but have to say they were good; we got a Pasta dinner; it came with pasta (it had some spinnach on it.),bread bun with butter and strawberry jam, Some fresh chopped fruits, a ... more

    Advantages Advantages cheap

    Disadvantages Disadvantages everything else

I survived AirTransat--but barely. In order to get a cheap flight between London and Toronto, I bought a ticket that was part of a charter flight block. Most of the passengers were on a package holiday. Check-in was chaos in Toronto. One passenger almost got in a fight with an AirTransat employee when he found out about the excess baggage charge and the extra line he had to stand in. I had to do this too (the charge and the line, not the fight). A flight attendant tried to get me to stop nursing my baby on the flight (which I refused to do). A supervisor came and spoke to me. I politely told ... more

Advantages Advantages Got me to my Destination on Time

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow Check In, Miserable Cabin Crew, Rubbish Food

For the first time, I was travelling to Vancouver Canada on my own to visit Family, so obviously I was looking forward to it. I was travelling on flight TS503 from London Gatwick (LGW) to Vancouver (YVR). The flight was scheduled to depart at 16:05 GMT and arrive at 17:55 PT. Arriving at Gatwick always puts me in a Holiday mood, so I made sure to be there at 13:00, the time suggested by the airline. Unfortunately, the check in queue was so long I only had 1 hour to eat and check out Duty Free before I had to board the plane. This was due to only 4 check in assistants dealing with 325 ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages Rude Staff. Low Baggage Allowance. Third World Service.

Most people are attracted to Air Transat based on price. Fair enough, their flights are always much cheaper than the scheduled airlines, and slightly cheaper than Canada 3000 (but not much). But for the money saved, there is a big compromise. Check-in has usually been painless for me, so long as you keep the luggage under the sacred 20kg limit, or else expect to either cry or pay (or both). I usually keep an extra carry-on bag hidden from them on check in (naughty, I know, but necessary) just to bring all my stuff on. The planes are nice from the outside, and clean on the inside, but sitting ... more

Advantages Advantages I got There. Some New Aircraft

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some Very old aircraft. Staff who can't talk to each other.

I did some work in Canada last year and flew Air Transat there and back. The flights gave me two very different experiences of the company. From what I can gather Air Transat is a charter airline based in Canada that also do some scheduled flights. I flew out in a chartered Airbus. It was brand new and the staff were obviously very excited to be on it. The airhostesses could only speak pigeon English- odd for a Canadian airline flying to and from the UK. They were very helpful, despite this impedement. The food was OK, it was a dry flight due to the nature of company I was working for, but the ... more
