Getting to Canada on the cheap
Review of Air Transat by
kam76
Advantages: Cheap!
Disadvantages: Food is pretty horrendous
...holiday in Canada, flying with Air Transat. This was an airline I'd not heard of before, and in fact I didn't know I'd even booked with them, because I'd booked through a website called Globespan.com, and thought they were the actual airline.
As I have now discovered, Air Transat are actually a charter airline, and you book with them via travel agents, including Globespan. Despite being a charter airline, they have a scheduled service throughout ...

You have to take the turbulence with the calm
Review of Air Transat by
melodysparks
Advantages: Cheap, Economy flights, No frills
Disadvantages: Possible delays Use older aircraft.
...travel home to the UK. Air Transat. So off to my trusty computer I went and searched for the website.
Air Transat has a web site, primarily aimed at the Canadian passenger a bi-lingual country. The opening page offers a choice of viewing language: English or French. On the main homepage, is the heading “Travelling from Europe” and five country links. France, Italy, Germany Holland and UK. Clicking on the UK link takes you to Globespan, ...

If you can pay extra, go elsewhere.
Review of Air Transat by
nicolasreed
Advantages: Cheap, Direct
Disadvantages: Service
...the the Canadian charter company's Air Transat were offering the best deal and I booked with them.
Apart from saving money the other advantage of flying Air Transat was that I could fly to Vancouver without having to change planes (I'm a strong believer that if you don't change planes you have more chance of getting your luggage at the other end and less chance of being delayed).
Although I was going to Victoria it was much cheaper to get a ferry ...

Value-for-Money Flights
Review of Air Transat by
CC2000
Advantages: Very cheap - Half price of British Airways
Disadvantages: Smaller seats; No fancy extras like with BA
Normally, my parents book flights well in advance, and up until now we have always flown British Airways. This Summer, however, we left it much later before booking a holiday, partly because many people say it is cheaper to book late, and partly because we had already booked a flight to Rome in October, making the Summer holiday slightly less important (normally we stay at home during October and have our main holiday in Summer). However it soon became ...

the nightmare that was AirTransat
Review of Air Transat by
mamabliss
Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: everything else
I survived AirTransat--but barely. In order to get a cheap flight between London and Toronto, I bought a ticket that was part of a charter flight block. Most of the passengers were on a package holiday. Check-in was chaos in Toronto. One passenger almost got in a fight with an AirTransat employee when he found out about the excess baggage charge and the extra line he had to stand in. I had to do this too (the charge and the line, not the fight). A ...

So I'll never fly Air Transat again....
Review of Air Transat by
iambigbrother2
Advantages: Got me to my Destination on Time
Disadvantages: Slow Check In, Miserable Cabin Crew, Rubbish Food
For the first time, I was travelling to Vancouver Canada on my own to visit Family, so obviously I was looking forward to it.
I was travelling on flight TS503 from London Gatwick (LGW) to Vancouver (YVR). The flight was scheduled to depart at 16:05 GMT and arrive at 17:55 PT.
Arriving at Gatwick always puts me in a Holiday mood, so I made sure to be there at 13:00, the time suggested by the airline. Unfortunately, the check in queue was so ...

Cheap - But at What Price?
Review of Air Transat by
Vistaway
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Rude Staff. Low Baggage Allowance. Third World Service.
Most people are attracted to Air Transat based on price. Fair enough, their flights are always much cheaper than the scheduled airlines, and slightly cheaper than Canada 3000 (but not much). But for the money saved, there is a big compromise. Check-in has usually been painless for me, so long as you keep the luggage under the sacred 20kg limit, or else expect to either cry or pay (or both). I usually keep an extra carry-on bag hidden from them on ...

Two Conflicting Experiences
Review of Air Transat by
pishton
Advantages: I got There. Some New Aircraft
Disadvantages: Some Very old aircraft. Staff who can't talk to each other.
...Canada last year and flew Air Transat there and back. The flights gave me two very different experiences of the company.
From what I can gather Air Transat is a charter airline based in Canada that also do some scheduled flights.
I flew out in a chartered Airbus. It was brand new and the staff were obviously very excited to be on it. The airhostesses could only speak pigeon English- odd for a Canadian airline flying to and from the UK. They ...

High value fare to Vancouver
Review of Air Transat by
Bentley2000
Advantages: Value for money, customer service, fast flights
Disadvantages: online booking
...visit my American girlfriend via Air Transat, a French Canadian airline flying various routes from Europe to Canada. My first option would have been to go to Seattle, as it is closer to my girlfriends city. The prices in the high season are really expensive. I got this flight for 381GBP including taxes.
The customer service was excellent. The plane was well staffed and the attentiveness high. The duty free was very cheap as well. I was so pleased ...

No leg room but gets you there on time!!
Review of Air Transat by
nim12
Advantages: cheap, films reasonably up to date, staff friendly
Disadvantages: no leg room, meals pretty poor
We fly with Air Transat to Calgary last month on a flight that goes from Gatwick - Calgary-Vancouver. We left very promptly from Gatwick and paid extra to choose our seats. We choose row 11 which I might warn you only has 1 window sort of behind you and otherwise a blank wall - so not the best for views but it is one row back from the exit which they use to get on and off the plane so great for getting off quickly and easily. The leg room is possibly ...

DVT - most likely!
Review of Air Transat by
Falafal
Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Service, baggage allowance, comfort
...was a frequent flyer with air transat) the person next to me asked
'are you vegetarian?'
'yes' I replied
'thats not vegetarian, you need a pink plate not red'
so I ended up without a meal but I always carry food with me because this always happens.
Being a small plane they had to stop at Halifax eastern canada to re-fuel and clean up which took and extra 2 hours keeping us in the plane!
The prices can start as low as £189 to £300, but I ...

Air Transat, Get to Canada Cheap Style!
Review of Air Transat by
djdeag
Advantages: Cheap Travel
Disadvantages: What you exspect? its cheap
...during the summer and used air transat for my flight between London Gatwick and Toronto Perason airports. I did not know what to exspect as this was my first aeroplane flight, but my views on the differences between cheap and exspencive airliners came clear to me as i flew on to Winnipeg on an Air Canada service.
The overall travel is per usal on a transatlantic flight is long with 2 films, these films were not main stream and seemed dull to my ...

Comfort all the way
Review of Air Transat by
elspeth334
Advantages: great legroom
Disadvantages: none
I flew Air- Transat between Glasgow and Toronto and had one of the best flights of my life. The comfort and leg room was fantastic which is very unusual for economy trans atlantic travel. My only niggle was that every single thing that was said was first in french then english but as it is a Canadian airline they obviously cater for their french canadian passengers. It was an L1011 plane and I would recommend this airline for comfort and helpfulness ...

I always swear I'll never fly with them again...
Review of Air Transat by
hanpau22
Advantages: Very cheap
Disadvantages: You get what you pay for (delays, ancient aircraft, poor customer service)
The advantage of flying Airtransat is that it's cheap. This used to mean they had a captive market in transatlantic flights to major Canadian cities. Today this isn't the case. Zoom and others have entered the market so there's competition. Trust me, you want to check out the competition.
The most positive experience I've ever had flying Airtransat was in a hotel. Yes, the delays were so bad because one of their aircraft wasn't flightworthy I got ...
