Advantages: cheap, films reasonably up to date, staff friendly Disadvantages: no leg room, meals pretty poor
We fly with Air Transat to Calgary last month on a flight that goes from Gatwick - Calgary-Vancouver. We left very promptly from Gatwick and paid extra to choose our seats. We choose row 11 which I might warn you only has 1 window sort of behind you and otherwise a blank wall - so not the best for views but it is one row back from the exit which they use to get on and off the plane so great for getting off quickly and easily. The leg room is possibly ... ...the flights are cheaper than Air Canada for example. I found the food to be really basic, some pretty awful chicken and rice on the way out and pasta with tomato sauce and a few vegetables coming back. On a positive note I found the staff helpful and friendly and they did seem to come around reasonably frequently with water or orange juice (you have to pay for soft drinks or alcohol). Also the films shown were reasonably up to date (for UK people) ...

...was a frequent flyer with air transat) the person next to me asked 'are you vegetarian?'
'yes' I replied
'thats not vegetarian, you need a pink plate not red'
so I ended up without a meal but I always carry food with me because this always happens.
Being a small plane they had to stop at Halifax eastern canada to re-fuel and clean up which took and extra 2 hours keeping us in the plane!
The prices can start as low as £189 to £300, but I wouldn't ...

Advantages: Cheap Travel Disadvantages: What you exspect? its cheap
...during the summer and used air transat for my flight between London Gatwick and Toronto Perason airports. I did not know what to exspect as this was my first aeroplane flight, but my views on the differences between cheap and exspencive airliners came clear to me as i flew on to Winnipeg on an Air Canada service. The overall travel is per usal on a transatlantic flight is long with 2 films, these films were not main stream and seemed dull to my tastes. ... ...with a polite caring mannor, but the food wasnt that great. Although the food was fine to eat, could of done with abit more food with abit more taste, but again its a cheap airliner. The planes back and forth did not seem up to date nor either in full maintinance. On my way over to canada one of the side boards off of the wall of the plane was hanging off :s kind of worring for a first time flyer i assure you, but all was fine :). On my way back ...

I flew Air- Transat between Glasgow and Toronto and had one of the best flights of my life. The comfort and leg room was fantastic which is very unusual for economy trans atlantic travel. My only niggle was that every single thing that was said was first in french then english but as it is a Canadian airline they obviously cater for their french canadian passengers. It was an L1011 plane and I would recommend this airline for comfort and helpfulness ...

Advantages: On Time, Great Staff Disadvantages: Leg Room
I booked Air Transit with caution as I had read negative reviews. However I was pleasantly surprised when I flew with them on Wed 7th May 08 and wanted to share my experience. I checked in at Gatwick with ease and without queuing. Hannah at check-in was friendly and I requested to be seated in front of the plane as I suffer from motion sickness. The flight was on time and once bordered I had a great seat and was pleased. I found the staff to be very ...

Advantages: Very cheap Disadvantages: You get what you pay for (delays, ancient aircraft, poor customer service)
The advantage of flying Airtransat is that it's cheap. This used to mean they had a captive market in transatlantic flights to major Canadian cities. Today this isn't the case. Zoom and others have entered the market so there's competition. Trust me, you want to check out the competition. The most positive experience I've ever had flying Airtransat was in a hotel. Yes, the delays were so bad because one of their aircraft wasn't flightworthy I got ... ...nice. All that said, Airtransat seats are tired, their crews are permanently tired and their delays (unscheduled stops at Gander, anyone?) legendary BUT it's so cheap. And I remain unconvinced I'd ever enjoy a transatlantic flight. Spend your money when you get there and see more of Canada (Gander is quite pretty even from the tarmac....) ...

...charters before but beleive me Air Transit adds new meaning to low cheap affordable travel. I fly from Toronto to London, the crew was rude, the food was terrible and there was a wonderful baggage restriction. I ended up paying $200 more coming back cause my baggage was over their limit. What Limit? These airlines limits are just made small so you have to pay them more when you get to the luggage check in. The flight was delayed going and returning ...

Pure living hell.
Vancouver to Puerto Vallarta Dec 2007.
I am only 5'3'' and the seating was extrememly uncomfortable. Not only was the pitch the worse I've ever experienced, but the width of the chair was an insane 16 inches. My knees were crammed up against the seat in front of me. The people in front were mean enough to recline the entire flight.
People were yelling at each other for bumping each others seats. I thought the man a couple of ... ...him, it was a very uncomfortable situation. We ordered lactose free, didn't get the order, both meals were greasy cheesy meals and I couldn't eat them. 5 hours of pure hell.
How does Transat get away with this service and comfort leve???????? Never, never, never again will I fly with Transat. ...

Advantages: inexpensive Disadvantages: cramped space, bad service, never on time
I would not fly Air Transat unless it was the only way to get somewhere, or unless it was half the price or better of the next least expensive option.
Mainly I feel like a number. Sometimes they are friendly; sometimes not--customer service certainly doesn't seem like a priority.
Space is cramped. Leg room is non-existent. If there were a class called "sub-economy," I would classify Air Transat in that category.
Food is on the crummy side of mediocre, ... ...nothing but delays with Air Transat--whether flying it myself, or picking someone up at the airport who is flying with them.
Safety seems adequate. I never felt we were going to crash, and they seemed to adhere to all industry standards.
I do not recommend Air Transat. ...

Advantages: It is an airplane Disadvantages: Cramped, always late, food leaves a lot to be desired.
I would avoid this airline like the plague. I have family in Canada and we all travel regularly back and forwards. At one time of another we have all used Airtransat. I have not had one good review of a flight either outbound or return. These flights are always late, the food is rubbish and the service is poor. I know charter flights are cheaper for holiday makers but I am afraid if Airtransat was the only airline flying to Canada I would not go. ...
