...by the tour operator - AirTours - that I thought they deserved a plug.
Our party consisted of myself, my next door neighbour, her mother and mother's friend. Mother and friend are not in the flush of youth and we decided to go for assisted boarding, both of them being a bit old and decrepid and not too steady on their pins.
From the moment we arrived at the check-in desk we were treated like VIPs. The front seats in the plane had been reserved ... ...aren't allowed in there but Airtours had prewarned them of the arrival of the crocks and their party and magically two more wheelchairs appeared complete with some local wheelchair pushers who didn't seem to have much grasp of our language or us theirs but began propelling the wheelchairs at breakneck speed with me and neighbour running to keep up. They pointed us towards Immigration where we had to present passports and a £10 note for an entry visa ...

Advantages: There's someone to answer your questions when you're stuck in the middle of nowhere Disadvantages: The reps are sometimes a bit too overexcited for my liking...the transfer coaches are not always punctual
Following a messy break-up from a longtime loser, there was only one thing for it-a good old girly holiday with my best mate. I scoured the net and trawled through websites such as 'teletextholidays.co.uk' and 'lastminute.com' and found a couple of last minute offers which caught my eye. Cutting a long story somewhat shorter, I settled for a week-long getaway to somewhere in the Costa del Sol.

************************************ ... ...because my friend and I decided, perhaps rather foolishly (I prefer adventurously) to book an 'Allocation on arrival' holiday. The term means exactly that; although we were guaranteed at least a 2* hotel, the location would not be revealed until we got off the plane. We did tell the travel agent that we would like a place either in Marbella or Malaga but they could only put in a 'good word' as such.

...is the airport and the Airtours plane, a A320 airbus and it was one hell of a plane. And there standing on the deck of the plane was the sweetest little redhead that I had ever seen. The red hair was set off by this fantastic light blue top and dark blue skirt, full marks to Airtours for choice of uniforms. And of course during the flight she goes and asks me the question that no woman should ever ask me, "Is there anything I can help you with Sir"...I ... ...and are met by the Airtours team and are directed to our bus. I remember coming here with Falcon and have to say that Falcon beat Airtours easily for the airport to appartments..The girl from Airtours that we had on the bus must have been a mute or very shy because she never spoke one word on the journey... We arrive at the appartments and she points us to reception, I look round to ask her something and she's gone, and I think I only seen her once ...

Advantages: Cheap and Cheerful Disadvantages: Holiday reps with bad attitudes.
One of Airtours many guises is "Aspro Holidays For Less."
Just the ticket for a low-budget family holiday.
We had no illusions as to what my self-catering accomodation in Cambrils would be like. We weren't paying much - just over £800 for a family of 4 for 2 weeks.
Actually, we were pleasantly surprised.
Although the Pins Marina Park apartments had little to offer other than a pool and a british pub ajoining it (yeukk!! why go to Spain and go ... ...problem but a letter from Airtours prior to our departure informed us about it and it specified that work would not begin before 10 am.
That appeared to translate to 8 am in Spanish.
Even with time differences that one just doesn't add up.
It was not a problem really but I do like to be told the truth as I said before.
So when I mentioned it to the rep on the way back to the airport she told me that some reps lived at the apartments and it didn't ...

...actually praises such a company, Airtours Holidays Limited. I have used Airtours six or seven times, and have on occasion used other holiday companies. Without exception I have found Airtours to be the best, not only in price, but also in quality of service. Please don’t fill the remarks box with stories of how your gravy was cold on the flight meal, or how it rained most of the time you were away. Advantages: Pleasant, friendly reps and having someone you can depend on at any time. Disadvantages: Having an accident in the first place
...security guard pointed to the Airtours board with the mobile number of our rep on it.
Within 2 minutes of getting her out of bed Karen was in reception, (I didn't realise she stopped on the resort), finding out what the problem was and calling the ambulance.
Whilst the doctor and English speaking nurse that had been requested were examining my son, Karen was ensuring that I had all of the correct paperwork together for the hospital so I would have ... ...same for all of the Airtours holiday makers, any problems and Karen had it sorted straight away.
On the day we left, on arriving at the airport, we found out that the was going to be a major delay. The Airtours reps were brilliant keeping everyone informed, passing out food vouchers and taking heaps of abuse from some well and truly out of order passengers.

...get out there, booking with Airtours and flying direct from Glasgow with Thomas Cook Airlines. One of the big attractions for us was the promise from Airtours of "free car rental" with the offer. Admittedly this was for an economy sized car, but hey, there was only 2 of us.
Only the insurance to pay for, we were told. Great ! ! For a week in an economy car then, that should be say £100? To be on the safe side, I called their Customer Services (and ... ...you too. I should have gone with my instinct and just booked through expedia in the first place. At the time, I allowed myself to believe that I was spending money I didn't need to, on something I was getting from Airtours for nothing anyway. Don't make the same mistake. ...

...but we recognised the name Airtours and we were satisfied that they would provide a good service. Ha! As we arrived at the airport, all excited and eager to start our holiday, we found that our flight time was different to that on the ticket. It was 2 hours and 15 minutes later than we had thought. The first thought that crossed our minds was why hadn't we been notified? It didn't appear to be delayed at all - that time seemed like its normal slot. ... ...we recieved a letter from Airtours apologising for the delay and stating the time as 11 hours and 46 minutes.
What???
Apart from Airtours, we had a great holiday. The hotel we were allocated to was fantastic, it was the Occidental Allgero, and the staff there were great - friendly, entertaining, helpful and hardworking. I would definatley recommend the hotel to anyone as its a first class resort. We did 2 excursions (quad biking and the camal ride), ...

...lots of people think that Airtours service isn’t the best in terms of service (based on some my friends views), but I have always found it efficient. OK, it’s no business class and there maybe no fancy food but it’s quick and direct and cheap. Perfect for a low priced holiday, who cares about the frills. So, what’s so good about them?
This summer my friend managed to leave her handbag on the plane and it contained all her ... ...ask for help from the Airtours holiday rep. I have seen them giving general help an it’s really helpful especially if you do not know you’re way around. Also, they give little meetings when you arrive just to give you a feel for the place or in case you encounter any problems. I think that’s really good because it means that they take full 100% care off you if you fly with them. I know they can have some really ‘unhelpful’ ...

...have been on holiday with Airtours a few times and had no problems. I think that you get what you pay for and at the end of the day Airtours cater for people who can't afford to go for the top of the range hotels in the poshiest of areas, that is not to say that I would be happy spending a week in a slum, but I always do a bit of research into the area where I stopping before I book.
Ask around and see if anyone you know has been to the complex ...

...problem with reps o an Airtours holiday. I have been away with other companies like Thompson, Club and inspirations and they are always real keen to sell you trips that you dont want. there is no hustle and bustle with these guys. They know you want some peace and quiet and are prepared to let you get on with it. Of course they are on hand if you need them so its a happy medium. In turkey, we had a lot of help from the rep after one of our party ... ...a week in Tunisia with Airtours and they have definitely let me down. It seems to me that they have battled to get to the top of the holiday market in the UK and now they are there, they have got complacent and become poor service providers. For a start, our plane was delayed. 40 mins which is not a lot. When we got there, they seemed very disorganised. The hotel we stayed at , The Sahara Beach Hotel in Skanes was not good. ...on the holiday was with Airtours themselves, we wanted to book some of the excursions but our rep never turned up once for the first week - we eventually got them booked through the rep in the second week, but compared to rep in our last holiday who was there 8 hours a day, 5 days a week (Thompson). Seeing as though there wasnt many english guests Airtours most probably thought it wasnt worth making sure the rep was there!
We booked the island tour, ... ...any of the excursions that Airtours offer, especially at the price that they wanted! Airtours are part of the MyTravel group so there may be a chance that anyone traveling with either Direct holidays, Aspro, Escapades or Cresta who are in the same group may receive the same shoddy tours - but if the reps main selling point of the excursions is the 'free bar' or 'excellent three course meal' then just ignore them and go and book with some one else ...

I only used Airtours because they are a local company.
They started off in a little shop near my home town.
They have grown into a well known and large tour operator.
I know at least half a dozen people who have had bad experiences with them.
Back in 1995 I booked a weeks holiday to Majorca with Going Places who are part of the airtours group.
The girls there were very friendly and I trusted them to find me a decent holiday.
It was one of those ... ...by one we rang the Airtours rep and she said there was no-one on duty for our hotel.
Nobody stood for it so we made somebody come out to try and sort us all out.
We demmanded to be moved but she said all the island was full seeing as though it was April.
We argued and argued but got no satisfaction, there must have been twenty people there complaining.
In the end we hired a car and set off to Palma Nova where we found a lovely apartment, and ...

...free extra nights stay which airtours footed the bill for (in a decent hotel). They even sent letters to all passengers afterwards detailing what went wrong so people could claim back on their holiday insurance if they wished.
All in all, a very organised company - they know what people want out of a holiday - fun and no fuss. ...

...was a bit dubious about Airtours as I had heard that they were not the best travel operator. Well, that was a load of old rubbish ! The flight was a bit cramped but we had enough room. We prebooked our seats so we ensured we sat together and were also able to select our meal in advance. The bad thing about the flight was having to pay for drinks.
The rep at the resort was out of this world and could not do enough for us. He was always available ... ...The Airtours guides that were given to us at our induction meeting were well prepared and provided us with all the information we needed. The crew on the return journey were excellent and made us feel very welcome. I would use Airtours again as would the people we met on our holiday. ...
