Advantages: Economy class very comfortable.
Disadvantages: Jaded outbound cabin crew.

We have just took a return trip to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, from Gatwick. Our outbound trip was a bit unsatisfactory with very ordinary service, however our trip back to Gatwick was pretty outstanding. Check-in staff at Gatwick and Raleigh-Durham were very polite and helpful especially as we were travelling with a 2 year old. I have flown on American Airlines 4 times twice from Chicago to LA (ansd vice-versa) and twice from Manchester to chicago. I found the service to be better than any I hadve recieved before and at the age of 14 it is very difficult to keep occupied. The films are usually good and the airhosts(esses) constantly ask you if you want a drink. Disadvantages: Not enough flights from Scotland

I flew with American Airlines earlier this year from Glasgow to Chicago and then on to San Francisco. Having flown over the Atlantic serveral times in recent years I was not looking forward to the cramped seating arrangements. ...make the same journey. This considered, American Airlines did offer a fantastically priced journey, albeit time consuming and long due to the indirectness, with great onboard staff,; good food; and exceptional entertainment on their 777 from London Heathrow to Chicago o'Hare. Advantages: Legroom, flight times
Disadvantages: Stroppy crew!!

...I'm not that bothered!! Anyway, American Airlines. I flew with them from London Heathrow to JFK. My main reason for flying with them was that I collected tokens from the Guardian and Observer newspapers in their 2 for 1 offer. This proved good value as was on a budget, and i booked the flights and the hotel for my 5 night stay in NY seperately. Advantages: Charter flight was cheap, Scheduled flight more expensive but better standard
Disadvantages: Don't fly charter

My two experiences of using American Airlines were completely contrasting. Both were direct flights from Manchester, the first a charter flight to Orlando and the second a scheduled flight to Chicago. The Charter flight was extremely cheap, £150 return and was purchased on a late availability deal through teletext. To be honest it was a bit of a nightmare. Disadvantages: expired drinks, crap food, dumb movies

...I wrote a letter to American explaining what happened and they sent me back a letter about 2 months later with an apology and nothing more. Needless to say I was very disappointed and while I will fly American again (because they are the only airline with a direct flight from London to RDU) I won't be enjoying it! ... Read review

I recently flew on American from Heathrow to New York and it certainly wsan't an unpleasant experience, the Flight Attendants were very friendly and did all they could to make sure I had a good flight. Disadvantages: No customer service, bad seat allocation, disorganised boarding, run-down JFK terminal

Advantages: Low Cost, Good Food, High standards of service
Disadvantages: Often miss connections due to late flights

Having flown American several times, I have to write to reccommend them to you all. The cost of flying AA is often less than that of Charter Airlines, yet the service is so much better, along with AA being one of the 1st airlines to remove rows of seats to provide more legroom. ...for the first time on American Airlines when i travelled to New York from Heathrow earlier on this year. Checking in was made very easy by the friendly and helpful female staff working behind the desks. It was the biggest plane i had ever been on and we were seated in coach class as the americans call it.
