WARNING - this op is a monumental whinge

Advantages: provide a crucial public service
Disadvantages: they're only after the profits

...sipping cocktails. Sorry Ciao, Arriva is a bus company, not a tropical island. So change the picture! Anyway, many public-transport users (or should I say "victims"?) will be familiar with Arriva, which seems to operate bus services all over the place nowadays. Here in Leicester, Arriva took over the old Midland Fox service that connects the city with the village I live in. As I don't drive, if I can't get a lift I either have to cycle or rely ...
...for some reason. The Arriva drivers in Leicester also seem to include a fair number of people who are either completely insane or...no, they must be completely insane. On a journey back home last week the driver nearly crashed into a van, then reversed 100 yards back down a main A-road, and then drove for about 10 seconds whilst reaching for something at his feet. It was slightly worrying, to put it mildly. Socialising is also quite difficult seeing ...

Thw Wheels On The Bus That Don't Turn Around

Advantages: gets you from A to B
Disadvantages: A is not on the bus route!

...that I have to use Arriva buses only. This however is not too much of a snag. After arranging my working hours over the festive period, I decided to check up on the bus timetables for running times – a little foresight came into play here. Just because I was working does not necessarily mean that public transport is running! Sorry, please excuse the overwhelming sarcasm, nasty trait of mine. Anyway, the quickest way to do this was, wait for ...
...certain parts of it. So Arriva get subsidies from companies, yet can’t obviously be bothered to serve the rest of the general public. What a warming, comforting thought that is. Tell you what Arriva, why don’t I pay a percentage of my annual wage to you in the vain attempt to have a service that I can rely upon. I don’t blame the hotline operator. I don’t blame the bus driver. They have jobs to do. Apparently Arriva pulled ...

Advantages: Public transport

I live in Surrey and have been using the local bus service for years!! For over 6 years anyway! The bus company is called Arriva. My journey into town takes about 15 mins by bus. Why dont I walk, you say? I walk it sometimes in the summer and it takes about 40mins, I know it doesn't sound very long but it is after you've worked 9am - 6pm, you just want to get home! Anyway, there are 2 buses which run in my area, 1 goes the long way round the estate ...
...the town. The buses run from my area every 20mins, so its quite regular which is good, how-ever after 6pm, they seem to run every 30mins, then after 7pm, 1 bus every hour. Sundays are quite awkward for me, as I have to be at work for 11am, so i have to get a bus which gets me into town about 10:10, so Im waiting round town for at least 40mins! Also buses going back to my estate from Guildford on a sunday aren't very suitable as I finish at 5pm, ...

...want a positive opinion of Arriva then you'll not find one here (or pretty much anywhere else). A couple of starting points. ~ I'm slating Arriva WOKING, I'dont know about services in the rest of the country although from other ops I guess I'm not alone. ~ GUILDFORD runs a decent service, the busses always turn up and the staff are plesent ~ I'm only really writing this as I liked the idea for the title (I had ½ hour to think of it this morning ...
...sister used to date an Arriva bus driver, this is NOT a personal attack, I liked him and considerED him a 'good bloke' I use Arriva on a weekly basis for occasional trips to work (all this week) and visiting friends. Arriva is the principle service in Woking having pretty much destroyed the local compitition. Arriva seem to like nothing better than taking over a new route and then closing it again after six months. I understand that the local council ...

...very negative response towards the Arriva company and personally I think that's wrong!!! Arriva is a Sunderland based company (I live in Newcastle) that operates throughout the north east. The Arrival of Arriva

Advantages: New and modern buses, more reliable service
Disadvantages: Several routes have a very limited service

...~ The introduction of Arriva to the Maidstone area had to be deemed a good thing. The service realistically couldn’t be any worse than the one we had been subject to for many years from M & D, but would it actually be an improvement? The fleet of buses brought to Maidstone by the Arriva company are mostly newer vehicles. Generally clean, the interiors are cheery with spotted fabric seats and rather bright green trimmings. Not a factor of major ...
...buses is one area that Arriva didn’t make many alterations to, and I feel they should have done. Several routes have just one or two buses an hour, and these services frequently stop earlier in the evening than is practical for many people. We are encouraged by the government to use public transport where possible to lessen traffic on roads, but if you work much past 5:30pm in Maidstone or many of the surrounding areas you may well find there ...

...wish to read no further: Arriva is a big pile of pathetic dung wearing a turquoise shirt and pretending to be public transport. Right, all those who require further explanation, let's go. Let's analyse Arriva shall we? and how we, the public, use them in our daily life. OK, first step in using their service is the bus stop yes? Walk to your nearest one, which fortunately for me is not too far. Lately they've had the courtesy to post some of the timetables ...

Night all. Jack Oh, BTW, can I also add, that Arriva completely monopolises ...

have you Arriva'd yet

Advantages: reliable, cheap service
Disadvantages: buses sometimes arrive earlier than scheduled

Arriva is one of the largest bus operators in the UK with over 6000 vehicles in operation. It also seems to have the monopoly of the London public transport market with over 20% of the capital’s bus services. So for a business to be so successful, they must be doing something right. And that’s where I come in – giving you the low down on Arriva and the service they provide. Before I go any further I would just like to quickly point out that my opinion ...
...with a sound introduction to Arriva as a bus company. ------------------------ Using an Arriva bus ------------------------ I don’t mean to sound patronizing but here’s some brief advice for those of you who haven’t stepped onto a bus for a few years. Firstly, find the bus to suit your traveling needs. Timetables are available on the Arriva website, www.arriva.co.uk, and also at most bus stops. Bus stops in my area are numerous so you’ll never ...

...me exactly two hours. Arriva is the only service which goes on the route I need so I’m a captive audience. I’m now going to have a good old whinge about Arriva. Firstly, I’ve yet to come across an Arriva bus which arrived on time. It seems to be that bus timetables are there only to give you something to read on the bus stop. It’s pure fiction of course. Nearly every Arriva bus I board is, at the very least, ten minutes late. The service from my ...

...ridiculing this companies name. Arriva is Italian for "it arrives". This name is so in adequate for this company. I think you will all agree that a more adequate name would be "arriva molto tardi o niente affatto" I agree it is a bit longer but much more adequate and in Italian seeing as they like Italian so much. Arriva buses, what a rip off!

Advantages: Get you from a-b most the time
Disadvantages: Dont turn up when you need them to, arent reliable and rocketing costs

Arriva buses... I have so many gripes with this company. I moved to derby around 6 years ago, and since the price for the buses has rocketed. I remember when i had to pay just £1 for a return to town. Since then, the prices have gradually gone up by around 10p each time...Now i have to pay 90p each way, as they have decided to 'stop' return tickets all together! The company seems to constantly bump up the prices, because they know they can get away ...
...to think that it was 'because of rising fuel costs'. Okay, fair enough, it sounds somewhat plausible. So how exactly do they explain the fact that every time i went to get the bus, the prices would fluctuate so much, within the space of a few days...One day i'd be charged £1.35 return, the next day i'd be charged £1.55 return from exactly the same destination! Not only are the prices an annoying factor of the rip off bus company, but the unreliability ...

You'll be better off walking...

Advantages: Nice colour scheme...seriously nothing
Disadvantages: Abusive Staff, Daylight-robbery pricing, late buses

Arriva is one of the largest bus companies in the UK. Unfortuanately it is the only service available in my area, so If you are a student like me without a car, its either use them or walk. There isn't anything good to sya about them so Ill list their bad points: -Abusive Staff: All Arriva bus drivers are grumpy ( I think its in the job description). I have even been shouted at by a bus driver, who called me a "liar" in front of the whole bus because ...
...college. Pricing: Pricing on Arriva seems to rise all the time. I have never seen a bus without a "revised fares" poster up (revised fares always means an increase of price). Tickets on my local bus must have increased by about £1.50 in the past year alone, they are VERY expenive. Times: if your at the bus stops looking at the timetable for an arriva bus, I suggest you use this formula (suggested time+5 minutes = predicted time). I have never ...

I'll tell you if I ever arriva

Advantages: Um..a nice colour.
Disadvantages: erratic timing, insane/rude drivers, rarely cleaned, tend to change route 'en route'.

Arriva buses are the bane of my life. I have to get one every day to and from uni, and although my other local bus company (First Leeds) is bad, nothing quite beats Arriva for employing rude, unpleasant people, failing to clean their buses (I've been on the same bus about 5 or 6 times this week, and there is still a splattering of ketchup across the back seat) and failing to keep to any sort of timetable. There is a timetable, I have a copy, but ...
...have never been on an Arriva bus where the bus driver can have answered yes to all three questions. Those who enjoy driving seem to hate all contact with people, and those who like people, or are at least pleasant to them, drive like insane, irate teenagers on crack. Even the one genuinely nice driver (the bloke with the mullet on the X41 route) is a complete nutcase behind the wheel. If you can avoid these buses, do. If you can't, don't bother ...

...leap to the defence of Arriva as they currently have a two star rating! I should state that I do understand that services will vary enormously around the country and I have had some bad bus journeys in the past...but I have discovered a very reliable buse servie in Watford that I have been nothing but impressed with.
