Advantages Advantages provide a crucial public service

Disadvantages Disadvantages they're only after the profits

Ah yes, Arriva, the sun-kissed Caribbean island, palm trees swaying in a gentle, refreshing breeze as holidaymakers relax in their deckchairs sipping cocktails. Sorry Ciao, Arriva is a bus company, not a tropical island. So change the picture! Anyway, many public-transport users (or should I say "victims"?) will be familiar with Arriva, which seems to operate bus services all over the place nowadays. Here in Leicester, Arriva took over the old Midland Fox service that connects the city with the village I live in. As I don't drive, if I can't get a lift I either have to cycle or rely on the bus ... more

For those of you who have read me before (many thanks to you all for over 1000 reads and a nice purple dot!), you will have come to realise that I am not a nasty guy. I have a very good sense of humour, consider myself witty and very, very laid back. UNTIL NOW! Before you read on please note that I hope that I never have to write an opinion on Ciao (or anywhere else for that matter) in this frame of mind. What has put me in this state of cacophonia and mass hysterics? PUBLIC TRANSPORT – and more importantly a bus company called ARRIVA. Many of you out there, like myself, may have had to ... more

Advantages Advantages The new style buses look great

    Disadvantages Disadvantages as op

Sometimes I write because I like to be read (it gives me a happy). Not this time, right now I just want to rant and rave and dribble. (Ciao.com is like free therpy for me). If you want a positive opinion of Arriva then you'll not find one here (or pretty much anywhere else). A couple of starting points. ~ I'm slating Arriva WOKING, I'dont know about services in the rest of the country although from other ops I guess I'm not alone. ~ GUILDFORD runs a decent service, the busses always turn up and the staff are plesent ~ I'm only really writing this as I liked the idea for the title (I had ½ hour ... more

I live in Surrey and have been using the local bus service for years!! For over 6 years anyway! The bus company is called Arriva. My journey into town takes about 15 mins by bus. Why dont I walk, you say? I walk it sometimes in the summer and it takes about 40mins, I know it doesn't sound very long but it is after you've worked 9am - 6pm, you just want to get home! Anyway, there are 2 buses which run in my area, 1 goes the long way round the estate then into Guildford and the other one goes straight into the town. The buses run from my area every 20mins, so its quite regular which is good, how ... more

(my entry to the competition) I have read a few opinions on this bus company before deciding to do my opinion on this and have found a very negative response towards the Arriva company and personally I think that's wrong!!! Arriva is a Sunderland based company (I live in Newcastle) that operates throughout the north east. Although there are only 4 buses with the arriva sign on it per hour to 2 different destinations in my area i believe there are enough to give a satisfactory service. Compared to the other big north eastern company go north east. They still produce a great quality service at ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Several routes have a very limited service

~ Up until a few years ago the bus service provided in Maidstone, my local town and the surrounding area was monopolised by a company called Maidstone and District. The service they provided was quite consistent, but unfortunately not in a good way. Buses were frequently late (if they arrived at all), practically old enough to be exhibited in a museum of transport history, nearly always dirty (both inside and out), and the drivers often had more attitude than intelligence. ~ The introduction of Arriva to the Maidstone area had to be deemed a good thing. The service realistically couldn’t ... more

All my life I have lived near my school. I loved it, having to be there at 8.45 and being able to wake up at 8.30 without fear of being late. Marvellous. Sadly, some time ago now, I hit 16, the teachers started mumbling and made me go to college, which is quite a distance away. My lovely mother, god bless her, works right near my college, but is still reluctant to give me a lift, I'm not old enough to drive, and taxi's cost me a fortune. Well, like it or not, my life now depends greatly upon this wonderful (sarcasm) company (more sarcasm) to get me to college, on time (most sarcasm yet). Let ... more

So, Arriva. Specifically, Arriva buses in Darlington. The random, ramshackle end of my daily commute, ensuring that I'll arrive in work at a different time each day. Let's start with actually catching a bus in the first place. The board at my usual bus stop assures me there's a timetable; within the first week of using Arriva services, you'll soon come to the realisation that the poster on the wall is actually a list of times when you can guarantee that there won't be a bus arriving. It seems that things are pretty much completely random. Some days, I'll have to wait a couple of minutes for my ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages buses sometimes arrive earlier than scheduled

Arriva is one of the largest bus operators in the UK with over 6000 vehicles in operation. It also seems to have the monopoly of the London public transport market with over 20% of the capital’s bus services. So for a business to be so successful, they must be doing something right. And that’s where I come in – giving you the low down on Arriva and the service they provide. Before I go any further I would just like to quickly point out that my opinion is primarily regarding the Arriva services offered in the south of Manchester where I live. Obviously the services offered will differ according ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages ............eventually. Sometimes

Every week, I visit my mate Dodie. She doesn’t live all that far away, (about 20 miles), but as I don’t drive it means taking the bus. We live in very rural areas, which means the bus has to take in every tiny village on the route. I should say buses. Plural. It takes me two buses as I have to change at Durham bus station. From leaving my house to arriving at hers, it takes me exactly two hours. Arriva is the only service which goes on the route I need so I’m a captive audience. I’m now going to have a good old whinge about Arriva. Firstly, I’ve yet to come across an Arriva bus which arrived ... more
