Avis don't like to take the mileage on their cars much over 13,000, so I get the opportunity to change mine on a regular basis and I am always driving a relatively new car.
The first car was a Renault Megane Estate, about which I have already written, I am now on a Vauxhall Zafira. Hopefully I will get to audition enough cars to make a really good choice when it come times to order a permanent replacement.
Reliability ... ...when I went in to Avis the guy was on the phone but immediately acknowledged me with his eyes and I felt welcome. He had observed the car I arrived in and greeted me by name as soon as the call ended. the paperwork for the new car was ready for me to sign and he gave me a hand transferring all my stuff (of which there is a considerable quantity) into the Zafira. In what seemed like no time at all I was back on the road.

...want to tell you about AVIS who are one the worlds leading car rental companies; they have been around for many years. I will be honest with you and admit that they are one of the more expensive ones, but the company has an excellent record of customer satisfaction. You are wondering how I know this well, I actually worked for them for 14 years in the customer service head quarters, and only left due to moving house 16 months ago.
Avis have a wide ... ...which are well worth it. Avis have so many different rates, which apply on different types of rental. The best way to check what is on offer is to visit their web-site, which is a very straight forward to use, and it gives you the actual price for what you are looking for, and shows if there are any surcharges that have to be taken into account. The car selection and availability was good, especially given my short notice and the fact that it's peak season. Advantages: What a surprise. Disadvantages: Initially cost us a fortune. Employees who didn't listen or care.
...We headed out for Avis and our hire car around 8.20 a.m. At the customer service desk was a lady taking details and issuing vehicles. The gentleman to the right of her was checking vehicles back in. We waited around 10 minutes before our turn. I noticed the other hire car desks were really quiet. The only one with one customer was Hertz. We had printed out the 6 pages of information from the internet. We handed her the page with the reservation on ... ...the airport and got to Avis in plenty of time. We also topped up with gas at £0.86 a liter at a local garage, which is over $7 a gallon. So we are not complaining now with gas at $2 a gallon. We waited around 15 minutes for the desk clerk to be available. Then Len filled in an Incident Report form. The damage was assessed at £638 and we would be liable for the first £600 of this. How convenient it went over the excess amount. This converted to $1104, ...

...is a review for the Avis London city airport outlet. I hired a car 2 weeks ago picking up the car at 5pm on friday and dropping it off at 4pm on the sunday.
The total cost was around £150 which may sound expensive but was actually not that bad considering this included....
Full car hire for 2 days (£50)
windscreen protection (£3)
Full insurance with excess limited to £100 (£30)
A VW Golf 1.9 Diesel
A full tank of diesel fuel. (£60)
Service.
... ...but this was all covered in Avis' unlimited mileage which is pretty industry standard.

The other reviews of Avis on Ciao seem to show people have had good experiences with Avis. However I feel I must let people know about the awful experience I have had with Avis in St Lucia. Which leads me on to saying I would also think twice about hiring a car from Avis on any of the other Caribbean islands.
Although a few years ago now (1999) myself and 5 friends travelled to St Lucia for a wonderful holiday on this beautiful island. We were staying ... ...hire a people carrier from Avis and done all the necessary arrangements in the UK.
Avis are of course not one of the cheapest hire companies around so we expected a good service and a fairly new car. However we were totally shocked when we got to the airport and were eventually handed the keys to a ten year old Toyota Hi-ace with a lovely orange and brown interior. Car No.1

...The reason we booked with Avis in the first place was because they were linked with BA Exec club and that would entitle me to extra miles. It was booked in my name but my partner was the driver because, well because it would be better for our relationship if you get what I mean, us women drivers.... i'll leave it to your imagination.

...just say that I think AVIS is absolutely smashing because they absorbed the cost of my Dad's 2 parking summons. My dad is no drunk driver but coming from a foreign country there are tendencies to make mistakes and AVIS recognises that. Of course, what you pay for is what you get and the cost of car hire is more expensive, especially if you do rent a car from the airport. ...have now rented cars with AVIS for almost four years, and they have so far always delivered what I needed. An easy and fast on-line reservation service which gives me the correct and complete price, a nice on-site service and whenever there was a problem with a car, they were there to help. 24 hours assistance wherever, even if you don't know where you are, they find you. Isn't it amazing, that they even come to change a flat tyre? AVIS looks a bit ... ...you actually get full value for the money. And if are a very frequent renter, you can get discounts, so they end up among the cheaper ones, especially when being abroad. ...reserve the car by phoning AVIS in the country where you intend to pick it up.
If you are member of any airline programme, you will be given some discount. If you have an executive BA card, you can tell them you have gold status and thus qualify for a higher discount.
Always ask the code for the rate you have been quoted on the phone. Unfortunately Avis have a tendency of billing you at a different rate than the one you had agreed on the phone!
... ...days, there is not really too much difference in price between 2 and 3 days rental.
If you have a Gold BA card, you are entitled to an automatic upgrade, if there is availability. However, each country have different categories and quite frankly, you may disagree on the way they categorize cars. the Mercedes class A, for example, is in a very high class, above the Alfa Romeo 156! ...

Rent car often and tried Avis.
Was happy with the car and the price untill I got back home and saw my bank statement. They charged me £60 for a kind od insurance I wasn't aware of! Apparently I signed for it... I only remember the person asking me if it was an extra driver and nothing else about other costs (wich I asked about). The person hide it, obviously ,and I didn't red what I signed so READ THE CONTRACT all is in small so it is a pain!
I complain but it is my fault as I signed the contract, so no excuses...
Never happened to me before and won't go back with them. ...

We arrived at the Avis office at around 5pm. There was no queue, we only had to wait 5 minutes before being seen. The man was very helpful and happy (although he had no idea what colour the car was, he said either yellow grey or blue, it turned out to be black) The process was quick and easy and the damage waiver was reasonable.
