Advantages Advantages Gorgeous setting, lovely and friendly staff, superb food and drink

    Disadvantages Disadvantages N/A

Back in January when I was getting pig-sick of the cold, miserable weather, I took it upon myself to set myself a mission. As I'd never been abroad and I've always wanted to go somewhere outside of the British Isles, I gently started to persuade my (then*) boyfriend to go down to the First Choice Holiday Hypermarket at the Team Valley Trading Estate. This didn't take TOO much persuasion. After flicking through some brochures, I got my heart set on the Dominican Republic as the temperatures suited me for March (our chosen time for our holiday). Average temperatures on the island are between ... more

Advantages Advantages Top class all inclusive hotel

Disadvantages Disadvantages Isolated from other resorts

As you drive down the coastal road past all the resort hotels along the northern coast you'll begin to worry like in that Thomsons (?) advert on the TV that you're driving past all the best hotels! Then as you drive through the less developed towns along the road you'll worry that you're going to end up stuck in some shack in the middle of no-where! But as you turn off the coast road just before reaching the town (village?) of San Juan and into the Bahia Principe grounds you'll wonder what all the worrying was about! As with the other Bahia Principe Hotel in Mexico you first drive down the ... more

Advantages Advantages Friendly Staff, Rooms & Night Life

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Beach

Stayed between Jan 25 - 9 Feb as a party of four. We would rate this as almost a 4 ... say a 3.9, and not the 4+ as advertised by Airtours. We have been to the Dom Rep twice before, and also Kenya, Mexico, Tunisia and most Med destinations. We thought we would try the north coast of the Dom Rep this time after having previously visited the East twice…..which has much nicer beaches. Hotel: Grounds and reception areas are immaculate, they are constantly gardening, cleaning up and chopping down coconuts, which they will freely give to you in expectancy of a small tip. Pools: There are 3 pools ... more

    Advantages Advantages Bargain Dominican Luxury

Disadvantages Disadvantages Remote location (but ok if you want to escape!)

My boyfriend and I took a holiday in September 2003 at Bahia Principe in Dominican Republic. Opting for an all-inclusive (to help stretch our budget) we were abit apprehensive due to some horror stories we'd heard about all-inclusive's in general. We booked through teletext so managed to get a decent deal. After a long day of travel (including 8 hour flight!) we were ready to collapse by the time we arrived. The first thing that struck us was the lavish grounds of the complex. Next came the charms of the wonderful staff who couldn't do enough for us!!! Our room was spacious and well air ... more

Advantages Advantages Location, Food, Friendly People, Should be a 4/5*!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

My husband and I booked to go here on the recommendation of friends for our honeymoon 15th sept 2008. From check in to check out we could not fault anything about the trip. From getting off the coach on arrival we had our bags taken to the room and we're given a fruit cocktail as we joined the line to check in. The guys on reception were fast and pleasant. Our room was spacious and comfortable with a lovely 'towel art' heart in the middle of the oversized double bed. The air con was good a little too good I had to go outside to warm up one night! It was a standard room as we didn't know about ... more

Advantages Advantages Beautiful place, lovely people, great service and just plain good fun.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Telephon service goes down regularly though mobile reception was good.

I visited the Bahia Principe San Juan over Christmas 2007 until New Year 2008. Earlier in the year I had grave doubts about the holiday after reports of people hospitalised with food poisening, dirty rooms etc. Well, in retrospect I was there at the perfect time. All the rooms had been redecorated and a strict hygene regeme was in force such that all visitors to all the restaurants had to clean their hands with a cleaning gel before entering the actual restaurant. The food was excellent with a bewildering choice. Many times I would get my dinner and say to my wife or daughter "I did'nt see ... more

Advantages Advantages Luxury At A Good Price

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Isolated

My wife and myself holidayed here feb 2005. On arrival to the island and traveling through the various resorts en route to the hotel you notice how dirty the island is, it made you wonder how clean the hotel complex was gonna be. We were amazed on arrival to how spottlesly clean the complex was and how friendly and helpful the staff are. We tried to unload our own luggage from the coach but was stopped by the porter who we tipped at the airport who made sure our luggage made it to our room. The resort itself is huge with its own transport system which you can stop wherever you like! The rooms ... more

Visited here for 2 weeks in June 2007, and loved every second! Staff very helpful at all times, lots of activities (beach volleyball, water & beach aerobics, water sports, crazy games!). Can't wait to go back!

Advantages Advantages lots of food and lovely weather

    Disadvantages Disadvantages a long flight

Just after i booked the holiday, i read up on a few reviews and wow i was a little shocked to what i was reading, this was my first holiday abroad and after reading what i had read i was really not looking forward to it, but when i arrived to the hotel i was very surprised everything i had read went right out the window, yeah the rooms are basic, but hey you only need to sleep in them, they are cleaned daily and the fridge is also stocked daily. there was a extensive buffet range 3 times a day and yeah you can only book the 3 resturants once a week, and i would strongly recommend the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages You get what you pay for

We travelled to the Dominican Republic in 2006 and stayed at the Bahia Principe, we will not be going there again ! The hotel is huge with several restaurants and it's own nightclub. The food in the buffet restaurant was hit and miss - although we could normally find something to eat the food on offer was repetitive. Obviously the type of food served is limited by the sheer amount that needs to be prepared for the number of guests staying at the complex. The speciality restaurants, however, were very good, you are only allowed 3 reservations per week (make sure that the seafood restaurant is ... more
