Advantages Advantages Gorgeous, Beautiful. It has everything.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Nothing

The nature of this review Rather than re-iterate all of the wonderful things to see and do in Banff as 14 other reviews have done beautifully, I thought I would tell you of our activites on a 2 day trip to Banff in case others want to see it all on a tight time schedule. Banff is of course a beautiful town in the Rocky Mountains, just 1 hour away from Calgary airport by car. We visited in the summer of 2011 and had a perfect time. I seriously love the place. It is only small, one main road, less than 50 shops and restaurants but lots of visitors. In techy terms, it is a real "honeypot". So ... more

Advantages Advantages Popular town in winter and summer

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive and loads of tourista

Banff in Alberta, Canada is set in the heart of the Banff National Park, surrounded with the Rocky Mountains, some of which are Sulphur mountains, Mount Rundle, Mount Norquay and Cascade Mountain. It is popular both summer and winter, and some of the hotels make provision for storing skis and snowboards. There are many restaurants with all tastes catered for, and for those who haven't tired themselves out touring the surrounding countryside there are nightclubs too. About 90 miles from Calgary, it is a popular stopping off point for people touring the Rockies. At 1,463 m or 4,800 ft, it is the ... more

Advantages Advantages Range of activities, scenery, hotels

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly more expensive than other parts of Canada

Banff in the heart of the Canadian Rockies is a very unique place. It seems to be a town born to serve tourists. I do not mean that it is a tacky commercial town but instead a geared up to serve the needs of tourists. I was lucky enough to work out there for a year between 1995 and 1996 and had the opportunity to experience the town in both the winter and summer. Banff is nestled in amongst the Rocky Mountains and this affords some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever experienced. Accommodation is varied from the cheap and cheerful youth hostel to the 5* luxury Banff Springs Hotel. What ... more

Advantages Advantages Beautiful scenery, friendly people, great skiing, good hotels and so much more.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Prices can reach quite a high level.

I was in need of a serious vacation and a friend had told me about this national park in Canada filled with beauty.I hopped onto the internet and found out all the information on the park. Banff has lots of great spots that are spectacular to camp in.There are lots of cabins looking out onto Banff's many lakes, surrounded by nature these serene and secluded area are by far the best to take a relaxing trip to.If you are one of the people who would rather stay in a hotel instead of roughing it there are tons of four star hotels in the Banff region. After kicking off your shoes and having a ... more

Advantages Advantages affordable- friendly - Inspiring

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

If you like skiing you really cannot go wrong with Banff. There are runs to suit all sorts from the steep and the scary to the long easy and wide. Each day you are guaranteed to find freshly groomed pristine pistes . The only thing to remember is if you are going in January/ February take some quality kit and wrap up warm. It is bitterly cold due to the winds that whip over the continental divide - They really are strength sapping (but not to put you off they don't blow all the time). There is no good or bad time to go during the ski season which runs from November till May (However Mt Norquay ... more

Advantages Advantages Amazing snow, Breathtaking sights, wonerful people.

Disadvantages Disadvantages need transport to get to skiing

This Easter I went to Banff for an action pact adventure holiday! I was going to the Rocky Mountains. (I really thought that sounded cool). Travel & transport We got a flight from Heathrow with Air Canada to Alberta Calgary. There wer other flghts but none straight to Calgary, some to stop off at Houston and other U.S.A areas. The flight took about 9 hours. The chairs were slightly uncomfortable but the air hostess’s were on the ball! The food was surprisingly different but good, pizza and then chicken. The flight did drag on though as I didn’t bring much more than a newspaper and a game boy I ... more

Banff is located in the province of Alberta, and is an hours drive from the city of Calgary. The town of Banff is in the middle of Banff National Park, a large park in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The town has a good atmosphere as it is small and the local people are friendly, there is a lot of tourists around however this is to be expected. Banff features a wide range of retail stores from Souvenirs and clothing to winter sports. There is also a good range of restaurants and bars. The businesses offer a good variety of items however the prices are slightly overpriced when compared to larger ... more

Advantages Advantages Superb scenery, good sports

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

Banff is one of my favourite places in the world. I worked near there for about 8 weeks last year and it's a place I can see myself living in. Banff is a town in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Everything about the town reflects the fact that it nestles in some of the most stunning mountain scenery in the world. You will never be short of things to do if you visit here. Mountain sports are, obviously, top of the list. There are easy walks along rivers or graded ice climbs on the glaciers and the summits around the town. Banff is a popular destination for skiing, it has some excellent slopes ... more

Advantages Advantages Too many to mention

Disadvantages Disadvantages A long way from home

I can really recommend a ski holiday in Banff! Yes it's cold, yes it's a long way from home, but you just gotta go for ace skiing. Mount Norquay is the local ski resort, only ten minues from downtown Banff. It is quite popular with the locals at week-ends, but there is plenty of room for great skiing. Most of the runs are quite tricky blues and blacks, but the main green run back to the cafe is just right for a second-weeker! Sunshine is a higher profile resort, some 20 minutes from Banff. This really is magical. So many highlights top consider. my own two favourites are; 1 - The continental ... more

When we were planning where to stay in Banff we initially thought we would opt for the Banff Springs. However, on reading that they offer conducted tours of the hotel for a fiver we decided that we didn't fancy feeling like animals in the zoo! Instead we stayed at the Rimrock Resort Hotel which was superb. It was every bit as comfortable and luxurious as The Banff Springs, our room was huge, it has an excellent health club with pool, jacuzzi, squash court and beuty treatment rooms. A huge log fire is lit in the lounge in the evening and a Spanish guitarist plays on certain nights of the week ... more
