A FEW NIGHTS IN BANGKOK

Advantages: Lots to do and see
Disadvantages: Very hot humid and hectiv

...total – 5 nights in Bangkok and then flew down to the islands and had a further 7 nights in Phuket. To combine both parts of our trip into one review would have me typing out reams and reams of pages so lm going to split them up. TRAVEL We flew from Belfast to London Heathrow with BMI – flights can be found on www.flybmi.com they are the only carrier to fly from Northern Ireland to Heathrow so we really didn’t have much of a choice ...
...then flew with BA to Bangkok direct – the flight taking approximately 12 hours. You should have seen the size my ankles reached when l got off that flight – most attractive!! Elephant feet! Prices from London to Bangkok Prices for non direct flights can start from around £450 and direct around £600. I got these figures from www.expedia.co.uk. Expedia do a range of holidays flights and hotels, we actually booked our trip through the Travel ...

Bangkok - Excellent for Shopping

Advantages: Cheap cheap cheap
Disadvantages: Traffic !!!

...food are spicy. This Bangkok trip is more on shopping experience in Bangkok so if you need to know things like when does the Grand Palace open, I can't help. Day 1 We flew in to Bangkok Airport on a Thursday morning from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). We took the first AirAsia flight out (which departed at 8.05am) flight duration was 2 hours 5 minutes. Bangkok time is one hour behind Malaysia time. The airport is huge (it's the new Bangkok airport) and ...
...There are a lot of Bangkok maps at the arrival hall so remember to grab one as different maps have discount coupons attached. We booked a hotel package + airport transfer with a local travel agent so we didn't have to find out how to get to our hotel. We did notice a lot of signs saying that you should get a licensed taxi from the airport which we believe is a lot safer as some taxis in Bangkok tend not to switch on their meters and you will end ...

A city unlike anywhere else in the world

Advantages: A crazy and diverse place, lots of things going on, great atmosphere
Disadvantages: Lots of traffic pollution, very busy

Bangkok is a complete mayhem of a city and the hustle and bustle of the place is just mad. You will never find another place quite like it. Everywhere you go there are taxis and tuk tuks speeding past you, market stalls along the streets, people trying to lure you into shops and bars, and hot food steaming from food carts in the roads. The amount of things going on never ceased to amaze me and for a first timer, it can be a very daunting. Bangkok ...
...pollution. We only stayed in Bangkok for 2 nights but we both left with sore throats which I can only assume was from the pollution of traffic. If you're looking for somewhere cheap, exciting and diverse to stay then Koh San Road is the place to go. There are literally hundreds of different types of accommodation to stay in suiting all budgets. It's also a perfect place to stay as it's in the centre of everything and the markets here are incredible. ...

Go For Loy Krathong

Advantages: Exciting, Interesting Festival, Cheap.Good food
Disadvantages: Noisy,Traffic Congestion

...of a full moon in Bangkok in November? Does the famous Memorial Bridge in downtown Bangkok evoke a desire in Thais to return to the vibrant attractions of their motherland? The short answer is almost certainly-no. for most,if not all, expatriates from the Buddhist Kingdom in Southeast Asia, the real reason why a full moon on a November night in central Bangkok elicits a yearning to return home can be neatly summed-up in just two words...Loy Krathong. ...
...Many city folk in Bangkok ve and trade by the water and just like Venice or Amsterdam, the Thai capital seems to be utterly dependent upon water - especially its rivers and urban canals or khlongs. This is a city of khlong-side eateries, serving up tasty but often exceedingly cheap food and exotic floating markets in which trading in just about everything under the sun appears to go on. Meander through the canal-side streets and you'll discover ...

Bangkok Basics

Advantages: Wonderful city
Disadvantages: As with any city, it may take a little time to find your feet.

Bangkok is deservedly a popular destination these days. I find that I'm often asked for advice from those who plan to go for the first time. They want to know if they'll need to take Baht (the Thai currency,) if they'll need to book a hotel before they go, and various other such questions. This op is intended to help those who have never been there before to learn a little of the ropes and to get them through day one without any hassles. I'm assuming ...
...you're planning to stay in. Bangkok doesn't have a city centre, as such, but has several distinct areas. The ones of most interest to us here will be: Sukhumvit - a business and tourist area (most of the Embassies are here too) Silom - another tourist area which includes the infamous Pat Pong night market and general sleaze China Town - where allegedly Lonely Planet types hang out in grubby dormitories, although it's definitely worth a visit ...

Let Go To Bed In Bangkok.............

Advantages: Modern & Trendy Thai Club, Uk night life Nothing compared to this.
Disadvantages: None

On a recent trip to Bangkok Thailand, we decided to take on some of the nightlife. I was a little wary at first as I didn't want to visit the go go bars, where they Thai girls are hanging around, if you know what I mean. As we only had four nights before heading to Phuket, we decided on the Bed Supper Club. This was absolutely amazing and nothing like the clubs the UK has to offer. Bangkok's nightlife is miles away for the nightlife we know and ...
...are a few clubs in Bangkok that are very similar to what we know but I would recommend you give this type of club a go if you are ever visiting. THE BED SUPPER CLUB The building looks like space craft from the out side you will know when you are approaching it, to enter the club you have to walk up a large plank type ramp to enter the club. Once inside you see that the laws of gravity still apply, as you are confronted with suspended low seated ...

You Either Love it or Hate it

Advantages: Immagine the Orient and you're thinking of Bangkok
Disadvantages: Not everybody's cup of tea.

...things you should hate, but Bangkok has a magic and excitement all of its own that brings me back time and again. My wife and I have been there four times now, each time for a full week, yet we still want to return. The city is developing so rapidly that every time we go it has changed – elevated highways, major motorway links and a monorail have all appeared since our first visit in 1988. Many people avoid Bangkok because of its reputation ...
...tiny areas of this magnificent city. The two areas are Soi Cowboy, down Sukhumvit Road, and Patpong between Silom Road and Surawong Road. I’ve never visited Soi Cowboy but I can say that Patpong is an extremely popular night market surrounded by girlie bars. Couples can walk unmolested but may be asked if you want to see a show, a simple “no thanks” will suffice (although I can’t vouch for what happens to un-attached males). ...

HEY SEX SHOW no cover charge - Patpong

Advantages: Cheap accommodation. Good Night Market
Disadvantages: Easy to get Ripped-off.

One night in Bangkok makes a hard man stumble (or is it crumble). A couple of years ago I spent about three days in an area of Bangkok called Patpong. Ouch! What a scary place. Was like the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh, (see op) without the guns and bomb craters. Really, really sleazy and the place was a mess. Was like living in some sort of post-nuclear alien community. At best like a scene from Bladerunner. Got constantly bombarded with “hey ...
...market areas of Bangkok. Bangkok has so much more to offer and is one of the best cities I've been to. As a city of culture and things to see and do, I would give it four stars out of five. The only good things about Patpong are that you can stay in a average/clean Hotel for about 11 pounds per night, per room. There is also a large night market offering a whole range of items. If you are ever thinking about going to Phnom Penh (Cambodia), then this ...

A peaceful haven named Thailand

Advantages: Beautiful, cultural, inexpensive.
Disadvantages: Very difficult to get to without getting caught up in the traffic and chaos.

...We've all seen Leonardo travelling Bangkok in the film 'The Beach'. But is the reality as true as this depiction? Can you really scour the back streets alone in search of snake blood? Bangkok is a thriving metropolis. It is constantly on the go (more so than London - if you can believe that), polluted up to the eyeballs, packed tight full of traffic jams, and this is all centred right in the middle - the very place that tourists want to get to. Typical. ...
...you chose to come to Bangkok - it really is. Remember that reclining Buddha at the beginning of the film? Well, that gold statue is not really on the side of the road (as our American chums chose to depict it) but is really in the peaceful haven of a tranquil temple. Here you can sit infront of the largest gold (umm, yes, and very real it is too) buddha in the whole of Thailand. Breathe in the scent of burning incense and orcids, left in homage ...

Don't think about 'The Beach'

Advantages: Colourful, vibrant and exciting
Disadvantages: smelly, noisy and polluted

Bangkok is a busy, noisy, smelly city and my favourite place in the world. Everthing you can possibly need or want can be found here providing an ideal stop-over or break whilst travelling. If shopping is your thing vist the New World Trade Centre in Siam Square, although take a meter taxi as a tut-tut driver will rip you off (or at least make you go to a clothes-maker with him for his petrol tokens!) If you want clubs and bars pop over to Patpong ...

What's the real Bangkok?

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

I lived in Bangkok for 4 years and got to know it first as a stranger then as a semi-native. Well, what's it like? It's most famous for two things, traffic and sex, and there's plenty of both. The traffic has improved over the last few years thanks to some much needed road building and most recently a mass transit system. The journey into town from the airport is only 30 minutes now at most times of day. To get from the best hotel The Oriental (some ...
...the UK (12 hours). Bangkok is HOT and humid 95% of the year. It's also dirty, so don't plan to stay more than two or three days at most. See the grand Palace and the markets and then head north to Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai or South to Phuket, Samui or if you're adventurous, East to Koh Chang. ...

The Capital of Siam

Advantages: A unique place to visit.
Disadvantages: Mosquitoes

Bangkok is my second home away from London. Places you must visit include the many ancient temples, the thai floating market and not forgetting the array of restaurants where you will taste thai food that is far better than any you could find in England. Shopping in Bangkok is excellent. If you don't fancy wandering round a market then there are numerous shopping malls for you to walk around in comfort. Pottery and Thai silks are often good gifts ...
...silk purses for only a few pounds. Where can I start with the food....All I can say is my mouth starts to water when I think about it. Do be careful with stalls selling food along the road as cleanliness is sometimes not very good so only have food from there which is piping hot or just stick to restaurants. One last word of advice - take plenty of mosquito repellent as they seem to like foreign flesh. ...

One night in Bangkok is quite enough thank you

Advantages: Gateway to rest of Thailand, Grand Palace
Disadvantages: Filthy hell-hole

...to glowing reports posted on Bangkok here so far, I have to demur, and say that it is something of a hellhole, albeit one that contains some unmissable delights. The place is dirty and chaotic. It has one of the world's worst traffic problems, and when people aren't in traffic jams, they drive like maniacs. The oppressively humid air seems to crawl with filth. One place in Bangkok that must be seen is the Grand Palace, which is a compound of some ...
...it only costs 50p. Thailand is absolutely beautiful and amazingly cheap, but just get out of Bangkok as soon as possible, and head to Ko Samui, Phuket or Chiang Mai. Buses (air-conditioned) to any of these places are really cheap (5 pounds for a 20 hour journey to Phuket.) ...
