Advantages: If you are into that kind of music and take a gas mask I suppose it could be bearable. Disadvantages: Everything else!
...the other opinion on the Barfly club is positive, I had to put down my thoughts as they differ somewhat. There are 3 Barflys, in London, Sheffield and Cardiff. I write about the one in Cardiff. The barfly is located right in the middle of town, on Kingsway opposite the castle and next to Beatties.(that's if anyone reading does actually decide to go there after reading my op!) The Barfly is open every night from 7 pm till 12, and from Fridays-Saturdays ... ...no dress code for the barfly and most people just go in fairly trampy clothes, or possibly wear a nice top for the disco. Typical person you will see propping up the bar is a bloke with shaggy hair, a brown cardigan and puke coloured cordruoys (hence the title of my opinion).
When I have been, the cost to get in has been £5-£7 to see the bands. I think that is an utter rip off, especially as the bands are ones that you have never heard of! When ...

Advantages: Good live bands Disadvantages: Sometimes too smokey because of not much ventilation
The Barfly is one of the newest clubs in Cardiff. It's situated opposite Cardiff Castle and i have to admit that i'm a big fan of it. Barfly plays indie music and is a good alternative to the infamous Clwb Ifor Bach that i'm not too impressed with. Prices vary on the door depending on how well known a band is, local bands choose the prices they want to charge so beware! The most i've paid to get in is £7 which was for the Crocketts who i rate as ... ...occupied by snoggers. Barfly is basically a basement and not a very large one but the atmosphere makes up for it, although after the smoke machines been used a few times you can't see the other side of the room and sometimes it can get hard to breathe. Drink prices vary with special offers but because on Friday and Saturday Metroes and Clwb Ifor is still very popular prices are very reasonable after 11pm to attract more customers. At the moment there's ...

Advantages: Good Atmosphere, Cheap Disadvantages: Small / Crowded
The Barfly is one of Cardiff's few rock clubs.
It is situated to the right of Cardiff Castle. And just on the end of Queens Street.
It is a relatively small venue.
To gain access to the club once you have gone through the door you have got to make your way downstairs to the actually club.
Downstairs you have got cloakroom facilties, a bar, dance floor, stage and toilets.
The Cloakroom
The cloakroom costs £1 per item.
The Bar
There is a resonable ... ...to please everyone in the room.
They sell Beer, Larger, Alcopops, spirits, softdrinks and fruit juices and all at reasonable prices.
The also generally tend to have a promotion on some form of drink. Ususally it is bottles of carlsberg for £1, which is not too bad.
Dance Floor
The dance floor / social area is not as big as other clubs, it can get to be a bit of a tight squeese if it is a busy night. It is bascially all standing however, there ...

Advantages: Good music, live bands, in town centre Disadvantages: only for those into indie
...but i have to say Barfly remains at the top of my list!
The location: Barlfy is in the centre of town but you do have to go around the corner by pizza hut or you'll miss it!
The prices: this varies from whether its a disco night or a band night but its usually around £5 on a saturday night (live band than a disco) and the price to see bands varies on thier status. And some midweek nights are free.
The music: Different nights for different music ... ...Most people to attend barfly are generally likeminded and the atmospere is pleasent as well as the fashion! its hot indie guys and rock chicks everywhere!
The barfly is rather small and does have a bit of a basement like quality to it but it all adds to its charm but then again the toilets could do with a referb! The bar is usually well staffed and drinks are reasonably priced.
The venue does see some well known bands but its mostly newer bands ...
