...I took our children to Barry Island for a day out during the summer holidays. We live in Newport, which is about a 30 Minute car journey from Barry Island.
THE LOCATION

Barry Island is located on the South East Coastline of Wales, in the Vale of Glamorgan. It has always been an attractive location for people from South Wales, The Vale of Glamorgan, and the South Wales Valleys to visit for a family day out.
THE HISTORY ... ...to the mainland and Barry by the Switchback Railway, which was built up to the west end of the promenade in 1897. Prior to this visitors had to be Ferried via Paddle Steamers to and from the Island to visit the pleasure resort with Promenade in the late 1880`s when the promenade was first built as a pleasure resort.
Much later in 1912, a large figure of eight rollercoaster was built on the site, but sadly closed in 1914. In 1923, the promenade was ...

Advantages: Lots to do. Disadvantages: The weather.
...discovering a ciao category for Barry Island, (Ynys Y Barri), I decided that I had to write a review. Obviously this is a big task and I have done my best to include everything.
Barry Island used to be home to a large Butlin's Holiday Park. I am sure some of you visited there, but earlier this year the site was demolished, somewhat emotionally, and a tourist research centre is to be built in its place. This was a very sad occasion and the end of ... ...been closed for several years, Barry Island and Barry still have an enormous amount to offer tourists and residents alike.
Barry Island and Barry, the adjoining town, began as farms. Well over a hundred years ago the Docks were built in Barry and the town quickly grew on the back of the coal trade; in 1913 over 11 million tons of coal was exported from Barry Docks. Advantages: not many these days, used to be great Disadvantages: dull, drab, tacky
...to Butlin's holiday camp in Barry Island every year for about five years with my parents, and it was brilliant, I loved every minute of it. The camp was excellent with great sports facilities, cinema, entertainment, fairground rides, everything you could need for a good time. We only left the camp a couple of times to have a look round Barry itself and visit the excellent fair there, look round the shops and so on.
