~ Bath ~

Advantages: Amazing views, Great history, lots to see and do.
Disadvantages: parking!! too many tourists in the summer.

~ Bath ~ The City of Bath has been my main home for all my life. Even though I live just outside of Bath it has always been the closest big city where I have spent a lot of time. I used to go to college there and work but now I do not visit the City so much and only go in for meals and rugby matches. Never the less it is still a fantastic place to visit. The Georgian City is beautifully structured has is set amongst the countryside. It has many places ...

...do that in the Great Bath in the middle of the Roman Baths and Museum, the water is pleasantly green there. Put a few coins in another bath - meaning you want to return back - and have a look at the first floor heating of the world. All done by the Romans. And the plumbers were good in those time: the water still runs in the old-fashioned ways it used to run 2000 years ago. What I liked most around the Baths: you can go around in the museum at your ...
...well organized they built a bath around the spring. That´s it, until today. From the Baths you have a brilliant view (take a photo-stop!) onto Bath Abbey. It is called the "Lantern of the South" because it has got more windows than walls! You have two ladders with angles climbing up into the sky, but watch out for the one on the left near the top: he tripped and is just falling down the ladder again.... The place in front of the Abbey and the Baths ...

Bath Time

Advantages: Historic, plenty to do and see
Disadvantages: None

Bath is a delightful city to visit, full of culture, history and charm. It may be a relatively small city by comparison with others but it has a great deal to offer the visitor. The Celts revered Bath’s healing springs as being sacred to Sulis their goddess it was the Romans who founded the first real community there in the 1st centuary AD. It was known by them as ‘Aquae Sulis’, translated as Waters of Sulis. After the Roman town ...
...collect the water for their bath complex. This is now known as King’s Bath. King’s bath was regarded as being sacred and its history can be found in the adjoining museum which houses a collection of Roman artefacts dropped into the bath in the same way that today people throw coins into fountains. Many important finds were made at the site of the baths. At the heart of the Roman Baths was the Great Bath, a 70 foot long construction which ...

...Orient Express, a tour of Bath was part of the deal and what a lovely city it is. It has something to interest everyone from Roman Ruins to excellent shopping malls, together with museums and an abbey. The Roman Baths are a must see. Built around a hot spring which still produces water at 46.5 degrees centigrade, the original Roman building was about 20 feet below the level of the pavement today and has been excavated to reveal a wealth of architecture. ...
...original lead lining of the bath remains intact. The statues around the edge of the bath were added in the nineteenth century. There are many rooms to visit showing the various stages of bathing from saunas with underfloor heating to plunge pools. There are displays of archaeological findings discovered during the excavations including the carved head of Minerva and the Gorgon’s head. When I went to the Roman Baths I only expected to see little ...

...is about 10 miles from bath by car.The trip i went was a long boat holiday that involves alot of hiking and cycling and if your into fishing, a bit of that too.On two of the days i went to bath to visit some of the historical landmarks such as the roman baths and the cathedral. The town itself is full with really cool shops that you could lose yourself around for hours. They have a traditional market place were you can go and pick up antique kind of stuff but still worth visiting! Nice but crowded

Advantages: Nice architecture, lots to see and do
Disadvantages: Crowded

Bath is a beautiful city. Unfortunately, all and sundry think so too, and most of the interesting architecture is obscured by vast parties of tourists all wearing radioactive cagoules and rucksacks containing the whole western hemisphere. In trying to avoid them you only encounter hoards of beggars who assume that anyone going to Bath is rich and gullible and therefore worthy of being plagued. If you are prepared for these motley crews, Bath is ...
...a murky example of a bath itself. Signs are everywhere telling you not to touch the water, thus ensuring that everyone routinely dips their hand in as they go past. The Pump Rooms are where everyone wants to go and eat, therefore they know they can charge what they like, and do. The setting is lovely but value for money isn’t great and you often have to queue for a table. You can, however, ‘take the waters’ for about a quid, which tastes disgusting ...

...first school trip was to Bath for a visit to the Roman Baths and I went back last year. The Baths are well worth a visit, take a guided tour, then of course there are refreshments in the famous pump rooms and if you are brave you can taste the water, although to be honest, I don't recomend it, I think it is an acquired taste!!!! Then there are beautiful gardens, good places to relax, being a tourist centre you can always take a good trip around the ...

...advice I'll give you about Bath is to stay in Swindon. I know that sounds a bit weird and I'll cover the reason for it both later here and in a review of Oxford I've yet to do. When my friend was coming from Hong Kong to visit, he wanted me to take him to Bath. I started doing all the research for hotels etc and soon discovered that anything bigger than a family house is quite pricey. That's where Swindon comes into it. To be honest, Swindon is ...
...the price it is in Bath so we saved £30 per night. The other advantage is that Swindon is only 30 minutes away by train (fare around £8 return) so it really did pay us. Trains run about every 30 mins. When you arrive at Bath station, the first thing that strikes you is that the buildings are all the same colour - a sort of symphony in beige. That's not to say they aren't beautiful - they are. It's about a 15 minute walk to the centre of Bath so ...
