...or you could think that Bath is full of rich old people who look down their noses at everyone. Personally I’m inclined to agree with both, but I am willing to put all my grudges behind me and explain to you how I see Bath from the past, present and future. The development of Bath first started in the 6th Century BC when according to legend, Prince Bladud was cured of leprosy by the hot spring waters. At this ...

...we’ve stayed at overnight in Bath over the last year. I’d had enough of red bows tied round the spare toilet roll. Staying in guest houses like this make me think I needed to be a Mrs Bucket, or Bouquet, in the making and I most certainly am not and hopefully never will be.

Reception welcomed us politely and quickly took us to our standard double room on the fourth floor. There are ...

...Cities they would be Chester, Bath and London in that order. Luckily I have relatives who live near to both Chester and Bath - I suppose I'll just have to suggest someone moves down to the London area, then I'll have free bed and breakfast in all three Cities!
In some ways of course Chester, York and Bath are quite similar. Each contains Roman relics and architecture, each has a river to walk along and museums and historical buildings abound. All ... ...shops.
I first visited Bath some years ago as my sister lives in the Bristol area. I loved this City from the outset. It was June at that particular time and both the Town Centre and the outskirts were adorned with baskets of colourful summer bedding plants. Street performers could be seen on every street corner, giving the City a carnival like air and almost all of them were particularly talented and entertaining to watch.
Naturally Bath is famous ...

...to take a trip to Bath and visit a local then you'll most likely have a different experience. The reason that I'm writing this review is that when I visit another city I want to know what the locals do and I want to make sure I've seen what that city really has to offer. ...plenty and millions of bars Bath isn't going to suit you, and with Bristol up the road there is no need for it to either.
The bars and clubs in bath are great - there enough of them that you don't have to go to the same ones all the time, unless you choose to.
Personally speaking as a student, the best bars are along the main high street towards the top of town. The other end from the train station!
The Litten Tree, RSVP and The Saracen's Head ... ...The Boater and are popular with all age groups and tend to attract a range of drinkers. All Bar One by the Cathedral has a minimum age of 21 and so has less students.
A very popular place is The Ale House. It has an upstairs with real ales and a downstairs with cheap bottles! Something for everyone.
As for clubs, it isn't London, but it isn't bad either.
Obviously it being a student town means that every night there is student night at a different ...

Every year, to celebrate something the locals can’t agree on, it’s party time on Walcot Street. I asked a lot of people about the meaning of Walcot Independence Day and the answers I got were thus:
“So we can get pissed, ennit?”
“I dunno…”
“It’s for the traders. I think”
“Back in the sixties, Walcot Street was independent, so every year we celebrate that independence”
“It ... ...Walcot Street used to have street parties and stuff, until society changed and shops moved in and put a stop to it, so every year we recreate that.” – All genuine answers, I swear. The message may have been lost, but every 10th of June Walcot Street is blocked off from the rest of Bath, a beautiful, picturesque city, and it’ll cost you £3 or £5 to get in. Just off the Street is a big field for the adults to sunbathe, get drunk and ...

Advantages: Something for everyone Disadvantages: You need a few days to see it all
Bath is an amazing city with something for everyone from Roman Ruins to excellent shopping malls, together with museums and an abbey. We stopped here for a couple of hours as part of our Orient Express experience (see opinion) and took a guided tour.

It is 70 feet long by 30 feet wide and 5 feet deep and is still fed from the spring via Roman plumbing. The original lead lining of the bath remains intact. The statues around the edge of the bath were added in the nineteenth century. There are many rooms to visit showing the various stages of bathing from saunas with underfloor heating to plunge ...

Bath is on the list of every holiday visitor to these shores and to some extent this is a pity. Why can't we have the place to ourselves?
Bath is one city that you must visit and, if you have, visit again. It has a uniqueness but you have to join the tourist trail by visiting the baths and the usual places of interest before venturing further. So get yourself one of those free local guides on what to do and see and you will not go far wrong. However, ...

Bath is a wonderful city with plenty of attractions for those who are interested in the architecture and history with plenty to please those of all tastes from the expert to the tourist. Must see attractions include of course the Roman Baths and the Pump Rooms and a new plan to open the Roman Baths for public swimming in the hot springs will come to fruition soon. The American museum is a refreshing change and although out of town is well worth visiting. The large number of tourists does, however, push up the prices so if you eat out at one of the cities restaurants you will have to budget in advance. The food is very good ...

My first taste of Bath was last year when i took some time out from the stress of family and work, im not sure why i choose Bath, maybe because it's not to far from where i live, but i am so glad i did!

Bath has all the major shops that you would expect to find in a town centre, and alot of shops i can only describe as " hippy shops" which took most of my money and alot of my time!

Bath is situated in the south west of England about a 30 - 45 minute drive from Bristol so the two cities are quite close to each other. Bath is placed on the side of the River Avon and it is a large place so you can get lost quite easily.

In the middle of the high street there are the famous Bath Spa's. Bath is a historical city so there are museums to go with the spa's and they are open to the general public. It isn't very expensive to get in (I went once and can't remember how much it costed, sorry!)
Outside the Spa's ...

Advantages: A Compact city Disadvantages: Transport
Bath is a city that you can get a lot from on a limited budget. The architecture is free, there are some nice walks around the hills that look down onto the city, and there are some reasonable museums too.
The downsides are that driving around Bath is a nightmare unless you know your way around. The one way systems are convoluted and quite often grid locked. Parking is expensive on street for most of the centre. There are cheap places to park quite ... ...them.
Top tips: stand in the middle of the Circus (the circular road between the Royal Crescent and the main shopping area), clap your hands and listen for the echo. The bread in Phipps bakery (Argyle Street, Orange Grove or George Street) is wonderful. Its even better if you stop by the Argyle Street branch early in the morning and get it straight out of the oven. Two shops worth looking out for are Tridias (a really good toy shop on Walcot Street) ...

Advantages: Lovely to look at, marvellous for a visit Disadvantages: Don't live there: the council take and don't give
I've lived in Bath for nearly six years now, and I'm sorry to say, I won't be sorry to leave.
I came here from London, attracted by the startling beauty of the place - and its amazingly well-preserved historic buildings. The sun glinting off the ancient sandstone, the Bath in Bloom extravaganza each summer, the warm fuzzy feeling when Bath Rugby play at home on Saturdays....what a great place.
Then I moved in permanently, and the holiday feeling ... ...it's properly, if unironically, known) does everything it can to attract tourists to the centre of the city for short visits. The residents can go hang. Litter, dirt, poorly-kept roads and the most expensive commerical rent and domestic tax policy in Britain I have ever experienced, all combined to put me right off.
The council makes as much money as possible from the residents and businesses of Bath, and pours it into making a tiny portion of the ...
