Kicking off National Curry Week a meal early He Who Must Eat Curry and I took a trip to South Northumberland, more precisely the upmarket town of Ponteland. We had a Groupon that was nearing expiry for Bawarchi, an Indian restaurant situated just off the main street, opposite the Waitrose supermarket. I made a reservation by telephone as the rules of the voucher dictated and was not convinced after hanging up that they’d have the details of the booking when we arrived such was the vagueness of the young man I had spoken to. Our first impression of the restaurant was good but looks can be ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bit out of town

Bawarchi A recent evening in Ponteland found us eating at Bawarchi (meaning the chef) restaurant, an Indian restaurant in the centre of the town which has been open for 15 years. Although it is situated on a side road, it is easy to find and there is plenty of free parking at the back of the restaurant. Upon entering the restaurant, we were invited to sit at a table close to the bar and take a look at the menu. In the bay window there is also a table with sofas so the waiting experience was a comfortable one. The décor of the restaurant is predominantly red with gold dado rails and large gold ... more

    Advantages Advantages booking early

Disadvantages Disadvantages I couldnt find a disadvantage

After reading online reviews of this restaurant after purchasing some deal vouchers,i didnt want to go after booking. I thought the staff were very pleasant on entering and we were served very quickly (we also booked for 6.30 pm,so it wasnt too full on entering) we had kebab starters which were really nice, i had rogan and my partner had madras, These were also very pleasant. we shared a rice and had a nan each as reviews said small portions. 1 nan would have been sufficient as they were quite big. My main complaint would be the price of a portion of rice and nan,but consider ing its Ponteland ... more

I dont usually write reviews for restaurants, but this time i really felt as though i had to warn people. I booked a table 2 weeks in advance for 16 people for a family members birthday. When we arrived on the day right on time, we werent even asked what name or anything the reservation was under they just old us to wait.We waited for 15 minutes before asking how long would the table be . They completely ignored this and told us that we would have to wait a while for our table. We were amazed. We waited a further 15 minutes, before asking actually how long it would be. They went and checked on ... more

Having just tried the Bawarchi Indian in Ponteland I am left with utter disgust..We were using a deal voucher from living social.
