Advantages: Climate, solitude, peace, tranquility Disadvantages: You have to have a car
Not so much Benodet as Brittany....
A couple of years ago we stayed in a mobile home in Brittany and fell in love with an undiscovered paradise of a place. Pretty soon afterwards my wife was eagerly getting the dosh together to buy our own little piece of heaven out there, but she had a bit of a shock when she came to look at the caravans. The dealers will tell you that they're only intended to have a life of approximately 10 years and so at anything ... ...to look less idyllic.
Mrs dave27 soon moved on to the idea of buying a gite (French cottage), however, and despite the fact that most of the really cheap places are pretty much a thing of the past, we were able to secure a place with a whole acre of land for just seven grand - yes, really.
We thought it was all going to fall through, however, as the gite had been left in a will to seven members of a family who don't talk to each other any more ...

Advantages: Stunning Cornwall-esque coastline Disadvantages: Long drive to get there
...We were actually staying near Benodet at a campsite called L'Atlantique, Beg Meil with Keycamp. We went via the Channel Tunnel as I get sea sick and prefer the long drive to the long torture of a sea crossing. We had an overnight stop at a campsite in Picardy and then drove on down to Brittany the next day.
Southern Brittany is lovely. The coast-line is beautiful - rocky with blue, blue seas. If you and/or your kids like rock pooling then this is ... ...on, a boat trip from Benodet out to the Glenan islands on the Captain Nemo boat . This is a large, glass-bottomed boat that takes you out then leaves you on an island to have a picnic before taking you back a few hours later.
We also made it to the Pointe du Raz which is a rocky peninsula. Saw choughs there (large black birds of the crow family with bright red bills).
The main dish of the region seems to be crepes washed down with a glug or two ...

Advantages: many local attractions, easy reach of ferry port, inexpensive Disadvantages: none
...a family. We found Benodet in a self-catering holiday brochure, but it wasn't our first choice - it was our last!
Everything else was booked up and it was lucky for us that they were.
Benodet is a small town about 1 hour from Roscoff ferry port although, being newcomers we travelled 6 hours through France from Cherbourg.
The roads are easy to navigate, well sign-posted.
Benodet is host to a large, beautiful beach with shops on the seafront. There ... ...found.
The large supermarket in Benodet supplied everything we needed from food and drink to petrol. Everything was so cheap and good value.
Restaurant meals work out around £35 for 5 people, 2 courses and a bottle of the excellent local cider. What more can you ask for? ...
