4 Stars Monkey Around at Blackpool Zoo Review with images 07/09/2011

Advantages Advantages Range of animals, fun day out for all ages

Disadvantages Disadvantages Car park charges, some enclosures seem small, the weather :)

Prior to becoming parents Mr Lools and I would often have day trips to Blackpool Zoo when we went to visit his parents who live in the North West of England. However this summer as parents of 18 month twin boys who love animals we decided to have a family trip to Blackpool Zoo. ***Getting there*** Blackpool Zoo is located very close to Blackpool town centre. We travelled by car. From North or South you leave the M6 motorway at junction 32 and take the M55 motorway. You take junction 4 of the M55 motorway however the Zoo is signposted from here. There are signs from this point for the 10 minute ... more

Advantages Advantages Great day out for adults and children

    Disadvantages Disadvantages A bit pricey

I live in a village near Blackpool so we manage to take our children to Blackpool zoo once or twice a year. The zoo has changed beyond all recognition in the last few years and I would never recognise it from when I was a child, the change is definitely for the better. I was a bit of an animal activist in my teens and when a group of us went when I was about 16, I left the place in tears because of the unnatural conditions the animals were living in, so when I had children myself I was a bit wary of going back, but I was in for a pleasant surprise. ^^^^Zoo Facts^^^^ The zoo is situated on East ... more

I am a massive fan of Blackpool, as much as people say its cheesy, dirty, expensive etc, i still love it there and go quite a few times a year. During my many visits, i had never actually been to the zoo there, and as a massive animal fan too i thought it was finally time to go - taking my daughter was the perfect opportunity to go! Our trip to the zoo - we planned our day out (me, my friend and our children) quite a few days in advance so we were both happy and disappointed when the day arrived and it was extremely hot - pleased as it was a lovely day to be out, but disappointed as we were ... more

LOCATION Blackpool Zoo, East Park Drive, Blackpool, Lancashire, FY3 8PP UK T: 01253 830 830 W: www.blackpoolzoo.org.uk E: info@blackpoolzoo.org.uk ACCESSIBILITY AND PARKING There is a large pay and display car park outside the zoo. The cost for this is £2.50 per day, which is quite reasonable. Alternatively, you can park for free at Stanley Park car park, and walk through the park to East Park Drive, then up Woodside Drive to the Zoo entrance. This is a walk of about a mile and is a pleasant alternative, if you wish to visit both Stanley Park and the Zoo. The walking route to the Zoo is well ... more

    Advantages Advantages Animals, Educational, Fun

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cost of food, drink, shop etc

Background Blackpool Zoo was, until recently, owned by Blackpool Borough Council, but was sold to Grant Leisure Group who own other attractions including Kuwait Zoo and Universal Studios. Parking is plentiful, and even when the zoo is busy there seems to be enough parking in the car park, and along the main road, or why not get the Open top tour bus from the side of Pricebusters, in the shadow of the tower which will take you there for a small cost. The zoo houses in excess of 400 animals, including Creepy Crawlies, Camels, Kangaroos and Wallabies, Tigers, Lions, Silverback Gorillas, Orang ... more

Advantages Advantages Plenty for all the family to do.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Could be considered a bit pricy.

BLACKPOOL ZOO On one of the few warm sunny days this summer I recently returned to Blackpool Zoo and have re-written this review as a result. To get to Blackpool Zoo by car you leave the M55 motorway at junction three and follow the A583 road towards Blackpool Town Centre. The brown elephant signs then tell you where to turn right and go past Stanley Park and on to the zoo access road. Once at the zoo there is ample free car parking adjacent to the main entrance. From Blackpool Town Centre the open top zoo bus is a wonderful way to travel there. There are also a number of other buses that go ... more

Advantages Advantages Family friendly, great displays

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive for the range of animals there

On arrival at Blackpool Zoo, I found the first initial look impressive (shop, ticket sales, cafe, various rooms for meetings etc). The tickets were quite expensive for what was actually on offer at the zoo. (Adults £12.50 and children £8.95). The demonstrations were good and the audience were involved. Particularly the parrot show, kids and adults all seemed to love it. There were very few animals in some parts and some you could not see as they were out of public view in fields away from the footpaths. There were no giraffes, rhinos or hippos. The creepy crawlies section was difficult to see ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great Day Out

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Weather

We live in South Wales but we go on holidays to blackpool 2 or 3 times a year. We take a visit to the zoo every time and it is beyond belief everytime we go. We always spend the whole day there, We never run out of things to do. We were impressed with the worlds smallest donkey and the gift and food shops are reasonably priced too. We plan out our day so that we can see the animals being fed and doing all their tricks to impress. There is ample car parking spaces there, even on really busy days and you can catch the megabus site tour bus around blackpool from the zoo. There is also a miniature ... more

Advantages Advantages All Day Fun For All Ages,Food Reasonably Priced,Helpful Staff

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not For Those Who Hate Walking

Went to the zoo and new Dinosaur exhibition in July 2005 and found it to be a great day out.It was slightly expensive to get in but you are there for the whole day and my 2 kids 11+8 really enjoyed it so for us it was worth the money. The staff were really informative and helpful. There is a canteen style diner inside the actual zoo complex which was good value for money and the food was good as well. The new Dinosaur exhibition was good but i feel it is more suitable for the under 8's if you plan to visit both sites i recommend coming early as we were running out of time towards the end.All in ... more
