A Trip to the Fylde Riviera! Review with images

AdvantagesLots to do, excellent attractions

DisadvantagesExpensive, lost its old world charm

"Blackpool is like Marmite I think. Some people love everything about is, some people loathe it and everything it stands for. Me? I am somewhere in the middle. I love sending time by the see, but I can see that Blackpool has lost a lot of the charm and grandeur that it once had in favour of in your face and often expensive fun. That is not to say that you can't have a lovely holiday there or indeed a nice day out, because you can. ==Getting There ..." Read review

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside! Review with images

AdvantagesAmazing atmosphere and more fun than you can shake a stick at.

DisadvantagesA bit grubby at parts but what the heck!

"...not entertain us now but Blackpool still entertains me to this day (30 years on). I now have a 5 year old son of my own who has already visited Blackpool on several occasions and is well and truly hooked on the place just as I was and just the other week I took my 11 month old daughter there, too young to understand it all now of course but she too will soon be a Blackpool addict I am sure. Ok so what does Blackpool have that makes people want ..." Read review

Underneath The Tarnished Reputation Theres Still A Gem Review with images

AdvantagesLots of family seaside fun, a great break with kids, can be done on a budget, fab attractions

DisadvantagesCan be busy in peak, some really tacky areas, some attractions are expensive and not so good.

"...the same negative opinion of Blackpool as lots of people. It had been around 25 years since I was last there, as a child on a trip with my Mum and a couple of aunt's and cousins. My memories included wet, grey and cold 'miserable' weather, finding the B&B we had booked into was awful (when the landlady answered the door with a black eye it was definitely a sign of things to come, and us kids were terrified when fighting broke out on the landing...we ..." Blackpool Revisited Review with images

AdvantagesPlus ca change

DisadvantagesPlus c'est les memes shows

"...a famous seaside place called Blackpool That's noted for fresh air and fun And Mr. and Mrs. Ramsbottom Went there with young Albert, their son. They didn't think much to the ocean, The waves they were piddlin' and small. There were no wrecks and nobody drownded, 'Fact, nothin' to laugh at at all!" * At about the time when Stanley Holloway had music hall audiences rolling in the aisles with his monologues about the Ramsbottom ..." WHEN IN BLACKPOOL DO AS THE COMMONERS DO

AdvantagesFun, lots to do, fairly cheap.

DisadvantagesNoisy, tacky, can end up spending too much money.

"...Read on..everyone should go to Blackpool at least once but you need preparation first.. -Take Comfy Shoes It’s a long way down the golden mile and those white stilettos will do your feet no good. If you really insist on wearing them, you can always take the tram or the bus down the mile, or even splash out and get a taxi, but then you will have less money for the arcades and booze. So take a pair of trainers, and if you really want to, ..." Read review

BLACKPOOL AND LARGE VODKA WITH RED BULL

AdvantagesSomething for everyone: Rollercoaster, Victorian Piers, and oh yeah, English PUBS!

DisadvantagesHey, who turned out the Lights?

"Did you know that Blackpool has more tourist rooms than any other holiday venue in Europe? Blackpool is a unique English venue! Where else can one experience the largest Rollercoaster in the UK (Europe?), plus Streets with more lights than GATLINBURG, Tennessee and a Victorian Seafront next door? Business called me to Blackpool, and I was booked into the Doric Hotel, advertised as a family hotel, two stars, sounded a bit basic, but for the picture ..." Read review

Turning on the mile long club

Advantages.

Disadvantages.

" I wrote about Blackpool Illuminations in one of my Business Studies A Level exams – it was the “ultimate example” of extending the market (or, in this case, season) by getting tourists to come not only in summer but up until November too, and is supposedly one of only a few tourist resorts worldwide that manage it. Growing up, oh, 5 minutes away from Blackpool meant I’ve seen the illuminations at least once a year (usually ..." Read review

Act like children in Blackpool

AdvantagesSea, funfair, slot machines, trams, good fun.

DisadvantagesTatty, noisy, expensive if you like the machines!

"We regularly visit Blackpool for a short break – just to behave like children for a few days! Some would say no change there then! Blackpool itself is on the north west coast of England. It has miles of beaches with the type of sand ideal for making sandcastles towards the north and sand dunes towards the south. The sea isn’t particularly clean, so swimming, whilst safe as regards currents, is probably not advisable. In windy weather ..." Read review

New tack city

AdvantagesSome good shops, lively

DisadvantagesA horrible place overall

"...about the same east of Blackpool Tower, and up close things got a great deal more depressing. A Saturday afternoon or a Sunday morning in Blackpool at the best of times is an unpleasant experience, but make your way over to the place at the height of the Illumination season, when the Great Unwashed are flocking to New Tack City and all you feel like is a good weep. Spend an hour and a half in a huge, slow moving convoy of cars, trekking past the ..." Read review

ROCKING AT BLACKPOOL Review with images

AdvantagesFun

Disadvantagesexpensive

"...have recently come back from Blackpool where we celebrated my daughter eighteenth birthday. It was the second time my wife and I had been to Blackpool, and first time we declared we never liked it and didn’t want to return. But this time things were different. We stayed at a small family run hotel along the Queen’s promenade, and walk from the main attractions of Blackpool. The first experience was the trams; a day pass (which also allows you ..." Shopping in Blackpool

Advantagescheap and cheerful

Disadvantagesno high quality stores

"...Blackpool. If youre arriving in blackpool after may youre lucky, as a new Debenhams store is set to open as part of the development of the Hounds Hill shopping centre. As it stands, the hounds hill is grubby and dark with very little lighting, more 1976 than 2008. The new proposals ready for May 2008 look set to change all that. And by looking at the plans, I cant help but feel a bit more optimistic about the towns future (for sketches of how ..." Read review

There's More To Blackpool, Than Meets The Eye.

AdvantagesAlthough a bit tacky, you can find some great places to visit.

DisadvantagesLoads of tacky souvenir shops.

"Blackpool is still one of the most visited seaside towns in the UK, with millions of visitors pouring in every year. Although Blackpool appears to many as being dirty and scruffy, there are many wonderful places to visit. Blackpool is not just the "Pleasure Beach", although this seems to be the place that everybody flocks to, especially young people. There are far more things to see and do, and you do not need to travel many miles to find them. I ..." Read review

The Imperial Hotel

AdvantagesLuxury, excellent food, courteous staff

DisadvantagesA bit pricey!

"...categories for the town of Blackpool and I have already done a comprehensive opinion about the town itself on the holiday destinations category, so I thought that I would use this extra category to post an opinion about the best hotel that I have ever stayed in. The Imperial Hotel at Blackpool The Imperial Hotel stands on the sea front of the North Shore of Blackpool, between the North Pier and Gynn Square for those of you who know the area. ..." Read review

Kiss Me Quick

AdvantagesCheap and cheerful

DisadvantagesBeach isn't very clean

"...haven't been able to visit Blackpool for years now and I’ve heard it’s changed in some respects but I have many happy memories of when I did so. A true, traditional, British seaside area including donkey rides, 'Kiss me Quick' hats and candy floss!! There is something for everyone in Blackpool. Organists playing classics for the grannies, child play areas/playhouses, amusement arcades, theatres, nightclubs, you name it! I found ..." Read review
