...not entertain us now but Blackpool still entertains me to this day (30 years on).
I now have a 5 year old son of my own who has already visited Blackpool on several occasions and is well and truly hooked on the place just as I was and just the other week I took my 11 month old daughter there, too young to understand it all now of course but she too will soon be a Blackpool addict I am sure.

Different people will of course find different things that they ...

...the same negative opinion of Blackpool as lots of people. It had been around 25 years since I was last there, as a child on a trip with my Mum and a couple of aunt's and cousins. My memories included wet, grey and cold 'miserable' weather, finding the B&B we had booked into was awful (when the landlady answered the door with a black eye it was definitely a sign of things to come, and us kids were terrified when fighting broke out on the landing...we ... ...here and no visit to Blackpool beach would be complete without it. The donkeys seem really well cared for and are very friendly. They are, rightly so, restricted in their hours of work so won't be there all day and are prohibited from working on a Friday...even the donkeys need a day off after all. I really like the beach on a clear evening. The sun sets right into the sea and it's an impressive sight in the right conditions, with the sea sparkling ...

Suffice it here to say that I adored the place: the piers, the open-topped "toast-rack" trams, the tower, the beach that stretched to the horizon, the arcades along the front ("catch-pennies" as my grandmother called them), Pablo's two-inch thick ice cream wafers, fizzy pop from bottles with wire-hinged ceramic tops, Bloomfield Road stadium where the likes of Matthews and Mortenson still performed - I ...

It’s a long way down the golden mile and those white stilettos will do your feet no good. It's not for perverts and is suitable for all age groups. There is a friendly atmosphere that you do not get in other places. It was a quiet weekend when we were there but it was very clean and the beach was not at all dirty. The nights at high season can be quite rowdy but no more than any other city at night. Advantages: Something for everyone: Rollercoaster, Victorian Piers, and oh yeah, English PUBS! Disadvantages: Hey, who turned out the Lights?
Did you know that Blackpool has more tourist rooms than any other holiday venue in Europe?
Blackpool is a unique English venue! Where else can one experience the largest Rollercoaster in the UK (Europe?), plus Streets with more lights than GATLINBURG, Tennessee and a Victorian Seafront next door?
Business called me to Blackpool, and I was booked into the Doric Hotel, advertised as a family hotel, two stars, sounded a bit basic, but for the picture ... ...of the Lights - sorry, Blackpool Illuminations! Which consist of SCADS of lights throughout the town and along the Promenade (beside the Sea) from September through the middle of November. Since they look like something you would expect at Christmas or at Gatlinburg, Tennessee, it seems odd they turn them out mid-November, rather than leaving them lit over December/January-holidays?
And we saw The Big One Roller Coaster (I declined to ride it, as ...

I wrote about Blackpool Illuminations in one of my Business Studies A Level exams – it was the “ultimate example” of extending the market (or, in this case, season) by getting tourists to come not only in summer but up until November too, and is supposedly one of only a few tourist resorts worldwide that manage it.
Growing up, oh, 5 minutes away from Blackpool meant I’ve seen the illuminations at least once a year (usually ... ...prom too…. Speaking of food, Blackpool businesses boom during the lights period as visiting children cannot resist the lure of the seafront stands – everything from pizza and kebabs through to Mr Whippys and of course Blackpool Rock is available, and the places stay open well into the evening.

Advantages: Sea, funfair, slot machines, trams, good fun. Disadvantages: Tatty, noisy, expensive if you like the machines!
We regularly visit Blackpool for a short break – just to behave like children for a few days! Some would say no change there then! Blackpool itself is on the north west coast of England. As it stands, the hounds hill is grubby and dark with very little lighting, more 1976 than 2008. The new proposals ready for May 2008 look set to change all that. Advantages: Although a bit tacky, you can find some great places to visit. Disadvantages: Loads of tacky souvenir shops.
Blackpool is still one of the most visited seaside towns in the UK, with millions of visitors pouring in every year. Although Blackpool appears to many as being dirty and scruffy, there are many wonderful places to visit.

There are three Piers each displaying differing pubs and clubs aswell as more traditional amusement areas.
