Disadvantages Disadvantages Parts can be hilly for the less abled

We had heard so much about Bodrum we couldn't wait to get there and our flight was filled with anticipation, not least because we had taken my 13-year-old step-daughter for her first trip abroad. We arrived at our Apart/Hotel at midnight (Turkish time) and this is where I will start my review. -o- The Gardenya Apart/Hotel The Gardenya Apart/Hotel is a small, family run business. On arrival our bags were swiftly taken from us and carried up to our room. The first surprise of the holiday, our apartment was spacious, huge living area with dining table and chairs, separate kitchen, bathroom ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Turkish tum.

Turgutreis is set on the Bodrum peninsula of Turkey, with a wonderful sandy beach on to the Aegean Sea. The Greek island of Kos is clearly visible across the water and yet, you are culturally a million miles away from Greece Welcome to Turgutreis. This is a two part review. I have chosen to review the resort and the apartments I used separately as the experience was so very different. Turgutreis is a military town. This has clear benefits to tourism as the incidences of petty crime are almost nil. The town is safe and even walking around the markets there is a feeling of security. Buildings in ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap and cheerful holiday in the sun

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be TOO hot!!

Hello Ciao people. This is my first op here, so please be gentle with me! Also, I think it’s only fair to warn you that my other half, superpricee, has given me a hand to do this (only mentioned it because he wants a bit of credit!). So, on with the show. Being a woman of the world, I like my holidays, and seeing as Richard isn’t coming with me to Menorca this year, I thought I’d tell you all about the two holidays we have had together, which were both to the same place: Gumbet in Turkey. In fact, not just the same resort, but the same accommodation too – the Siesta ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I was beginning to think I’d never get to Bodrum. As a woman on her own I won’t go anywhere unless I speak enough of the language to look after myself, and Turkish was proving just awful. It bears no relationship at all to any European language, the grammatical rules are complex and totally unfamiliar. Other linguists will raise an eyebrow when I tell them there are no verbs ‘to be’ and ‘to have’. So how would you say, for example, ‘I have two children’ ? It goes ‘twochildrenaretome’, ‘ikicocuklarim’, all one word, and that’s the easy part. At least pronunciation is no problem. Where would I ... more

Advantages Advantages Very cheap, great hotel, hot weather, everything

Disadvantages Disadvantages none come to mind

When me and three friends finally decide to go to Turkey on our summer holiday, I initially had some reservations about the place. Firstly, I knew absolutely nothing about the place except that it was very hot. However, when we got there, I cancelled all reservations. It was probably the best holiday I've been on in my 18 year life. This was helped by the fantastic apartment we stayed in. The 'Green Rooms' in Gumbet (a town just outside Bodrum) were absolute paradise. A large swimming pool, a great pool-side bar as well as a cellar bar with karaoke, and very pleasant staff just made our stay ... more

Advantages Advantages Sun, friendly people and cheap shopping

Disadvantages Disadvantages some locals can be a bit pushy

Last year I went to Gumbet in Turkey. I use a wheelchair and this was only my second time abroad. My first holiday was America and it isn’t much different from the UK so I was ok but I wasn’t sure what to expect from Turkey. They were 6 of us all together including my mother, her husband, my brother, my sister and a family friend. We went in the last two weeks of the tourist season in October. The weather was quite warm although they were one night of rain but lucky for us it didn’t start till we got back to our hotel. We arrived at Bodrom airport which is the major town and is about 33 miles ... more

Advantages Advantages Clean, great public transport

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Rubbish fakes

I wasn't exactly delighted when finding out I had to take an educational trip to Turkey, I instantly thought ''That is not my cup of tea!'' As I'm sure you know, Turkey is well known for its pervy men, fakes, and being a very popular place for chavs to take their holidays! Well 1- I was not interested in meeting any men wanting a British passport 2- I hate fakes and 3- I'm sorry..but some chavs REALLY get on my nerves! But I thought...''No..just go! You might be surprised'' So I landed in Bodrum airport in the first week of May 2006. We drove for an hour to arrive in Gumbet, it was dark and ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, friendly and interesting

Disadvantages Disadvantages It's a long flight and there can be great distances to places of interest

Of all the foreign destinations I've been, I think Bodrum has been my favourite resort in my favourite country. Bodrum is all low-rise buildings, it's heaving with great bars and restaurants, the shopping is excellent and the people are exceptionally friendly. Add to that the excellent places to visit (Ephesus is a long way but a must!), the cheap prices and the great weather...it really is paradise. The food is cheap but great quality...Turkey is self-sufficient on foodstuffs, and the lack of processed or frozen foods makes for brilliant eating-out. Haggling in the markets (and even retail ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap Shopping (Cheap goods), almost cheap and nasty though!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Food, Turkish people after your money, Fag ash all over the beach.

Arrival Upon arriving at the hotel the scenery seemed ok with a sea view and you could see all the roofs of the buildings, kind of nice! The weather was hot and the climate was a good balance of heat and humidity. We decided to go for a walk around to see the sites and take in some shopping on our first morning. After a few hours it was apparent that all the shops sold exactly the same items and the just did not seem to be any change no matter what street you walked down. Apartment The apartment was of a good standard with shower and kitchen + balcony. 5 mins from the beach with a shop at the ... more

Well, actually it was my first ever holiday abroard. Some people go to France or Spain on their first holiday outside the UK, but I saw Turkey in the brochure and liked the look of the place. I stayed in Gumbet just around the cove from Bodrum and much prefered Gumbet. The people are really friendly and almost everything in Turkey is cheap. Gumbet has loads of bars that are all open till the early hours. Bodrum is 10 mins away by dolmus (a Turkish bus) and has loads of bars as well as the only 'real' night club in the area (Halikarnos). Whatever you do in Turkey, just remember to take an empty ... more
