Boston in October, when the sun is shining, the Redsox are playing well, the leaves are just doing their New England Fall Color thing...what a treat!
Getting paid to be there...what a total delight!

Ah yes, walking back to Copley Place from Memorial Drive, on the other side of the river.
My route took me along the banks of the Charles River, and through a beautiful stretch of parkland through which half of Boston’s ...

...could have flown direct to Boston with the likes of British Airways or Virgin Atlantic – but we would not have gained air miles and membership miles (l know its sad!)
The overall flight took from 8.55am and we arrived into Boston around 2pm (-5 GMT). So it was just over 10 hours – a direct flight would take over 7 hours to get you into Boston.
We did loose our luggage between Washington and Boston – there was a very tight turn ... ...across the Charles River from Boston City itself – this was very easily accessible from the airport – the T (Boston metro system) took us from the airport changing once directly to the T stop, which happened to be about 2 minutes from the front door of our hotel.
We stated at the Harvard Square Hotel – a doubletree chain – nothing special but it was perfectly adequate – clean, normal sized, TV, fridge, hairdryer & tea ...

Advantages: It isn't TOO busy like New York, really easy to get around and no sales tax on clothes, clean and safe Disadvantages: Quite expensive
Boston is a city like no other – the only city I have been that combines the pleasantness of a European City with the delight of a US City. I spent three months there last summer and plan to go back as soon as I can. There is so much to do, so many places to see it would take a lifetime. In my opinion on Boston, I am only going to give some essential information about it and some of my favourite things about it, but it is still quite long. If you ... ...people will in arrive in Boston through Logan International Airport. There are a number of ways out of the airport to the city, but the cheapest is by using the MBTA transport system. The MBTA or “The T” as it is commonly known, is Boston’s (mainly) underground transport system. It is THE only way to travel around the city. It costs $1 for each ride on the T, but I would advise buying a visitors pass. Last summer, the price was $11 for three days ...

My half day meeting was at Cambridge University, (one of the 60 plus Colleges or Universities). I visited Boston some 3 years ago. I would describe it as one of the best trips I have ever experienced during my short 18 year life. I found it a place for all ages. You have many sports teams all whose stadiums are easily reachable, ideal for kids to experience. You then have a historic side to Boston which appeals to all ages. There are several museums full of history. The Boston Tea party figures heavily down at the docks. But there is also huge ... ...also found the inhabitants of Boston to be some of the nicest people I've met. Everyone had time for you and loved listening to where you had come from - not to mention the Scottish accent. I visited Boston in October - right in the middle of the fall. Some of the scenery away form the main centre was breathtaking. And the weather wasn't exactly freezing cold. There was a mild temperature - just pleasent enough to enjoy each day although rain did ...

Advantages: Less busy than other major US cities, Friendly, Tax Free Shopping Disadvantages: Not Many
Boston is one of those rare places which has the thriving feel of a modern, cosmopolitian city whilst still be able to retain its natural culture heritage. If you are looking to find the heart of American history then this is the place for you but if you are also looking for somewhere that can be enjoyed by the whole family then Boston also has something to offer.
A good way to get an overview of the city itself is to make use of the famous Duck ... ...idea if your stay in Boston is only a short one as it will allow you to see the majority of the main attractions in a short space of time. Please be aware that it is usually required that you book the tour prior to the day you actually want to go on these tours and it is advisable to go for a tour early in the day, when it will be far less busy.
Aside from the Duck Tours, Boston has alot to offer in terms of culture. During the summer (around independence ...

Advantages: Good bargains Disadvantages: Still have to fly for 8 hrs
Flights to Boston take around 8 hours and it is located on the Eastern Seaboard, the closest part of the US to the UK. Good deals to Boston can be found in the off peak periods.
If I said Boston to you, what would come into your mind? Ally McBeal, Tea Parties, lobsters, Cheers, Autumn? Well all of these things are true (except Ally McBeal, I think that it filmed in LA). ...to a longer trip to Boston for 10 years since I stopped off there on a busines trip in the early 90s. I have to say I was just a little bit disappointed.
Boston sells itself really well; it promotes its tradition and history to its best advantage, but in reality its just a farily ordinary US city - only real difference is that people actually walk from A to B! (although this activity is suported by copious amounts of take-away coffee)
The shopping ... ...like Chicago, or even Orlando, Boston is a pretty expensive place to stay, eat, and entertain. So don't expect too many bargains.
If you're a Cheers fan, by all means visit the place, but don't expect too much. The interior is nothing like the TV show, and the food is pretty ordinary. I'd advise going for a beer, but nothing else.
The weather in March was a bit too harsh to make sightseeing enjoyable. I'd suggest waiting until May/June unless you ...

Boston and the surrounding areas are steeped in History. Being the center of the American Revolution, many English will cringe as they visit Boston Harbor and the site of the 'Boston Tea Party'. Advantages: Lively, Cultural, Short flight Disadvantages:
There's something for everyone in Boston and it's a city I'm sure I'll visit time and time again. I visited Boston for a long weekend with my mother one May weekend. It's perfect for a long weekend being only 6 1/2 hrs from Heathrow the flight is not too long. Boston itself has a certain charm, it doesn't feel as rushed and chaotic as most US cities yet it is vibrant and modern with gleaming skyscrapers as well as quaint New England houses.

We visited Boston for the Millenium celabrations last year and found it to be a wonderful, wonderful place. In Boston they really go to town with their New Year celebrations. Although last year was a special new year there was every indication in the local press and TV that last year was to become a benchmark for future new years. The celebrations started at 7.00pm local time (midnight GMT) with a huge firework display in the main park. Boston is an okay kind of a place, the harbour area and central shopping district are very clean and nicely finished and there is the usual array of American shops and choice of good food (Very good for Piscophiles, Lobsters and Clam Chowder abound) . The Technology Museum was interesting, and they have some old boats you can look around, they make a big thing of the Tea Party. These are part of the (Somewhat futile in my opinion) Bostonian attempts ... ...and history. Yes, it’s old by US standards, but the one or two minor skirmishes and a couple of oldish buildings are paltry historic fare by European standards, and anywhere else it would be embarrassing. The Cheers bar is probably more interesting to your average Brit anyway. Bostonians are nice enough people, but like all New Englanders (Or so it seemed) have a condescending attitude towards the rest of Americans. Their favourites were Californians ...
