It's the OC.........in the Uk

Advantages: Sun, fab clean beaches, hip clubs, great mix of people and lots to do!
Disadvantages: Tourists!

Having lived in Bournemouth for over 10 years I have to say - there's no other town for me. The Beaches *************** Bournemouth is adjacent to Poole (10 mins away) and the 2 towns join together to have the cleanest, nicest stretch of coastline in the UK. Think golden (rubbish free sands) which are cleaned every day, clear blue water and Blue Flag approval from the EU. My advice when visiting Bournemouth is avoid being a grockle (local speak ...
...you want to go. Bournemouth town centre is based around the central Square , which is pedestrianised. You can't miss it; a pavement style café called Obscura is in the centre and is a great place to people watch or look at the street performers. On either side of the Square are Commercial and Old Christchurch Roads. Both are crammed with the usual high Street chains/shops but also a few boutiques and unusual gift shops are thrown in to the mix. Some ...

...so I begin… Bournemouth Town Bournemouth’s great. It’s compact enough to generally be able to get most central points on foot. It’s very busy in the summer with the massive influx of foreign students; Bournemouth has a ridiculous number of language schools and nearly everyone in the town is involved in some way or another, teachers, host families, pub landlords etc. It’s definitely quieter in the winter, but with the expanding university the population ...
...There’s only one comprehensive in Bournemouth and that’s Catholic, and I hear it’s very good. The remainder of secondary schools are made up of approximately eight secondary moderns, of which I believe three are mixed. I mention the education system here because it’s actually quite indicative of the town as a whole, it’s a True Blue Tory area, and regardless of your politics, you can’t fail to notice it! Bournemouth’s strange in the fact that it’s ...

...to choose from. Unfortunately, Bournemouth like all other towns has fallen prey to the rise of the chain pub. So you'll find Bar Med, Hogshead, O'Neills and all the others that you have in your own town. That said, though, they were all spacious and very nicely styled, the staff everywhere were very friendly and loads of them had outdoor seating areas. So although I've been in these pubs in several other cities, the ones in Bournemouth were slightly ...
...heard reports of voilence in Bournemouth at night, but I have to say that I saw none at all that particular night. I felt very comfortable everywhere I went and had a riot of a time, even in the Beaver place. The town in general: Bournemouth is very green, with loads of garden spaces packed with trees and flowers. This is all very pleasant indeed and a nice relaxing place to take a pew, have an ice cream and watch the world go by (and I do mean ...

It's better in Bournemouth

Advantages: Lots to do, gardens, beaches, night life.
Disadvantages: Expensive.

I work in Bournemouth and live about half an hour's drive away, and have done for most of my life, so I feel like I am qualified to write a fairly comprehensive review of the town! I have always loved it and will never get tired of it. Bournemouth is not cheap - I heard today that it is one of the country's Hot Spots for rising property prices, but if you visit you will see why. It really does have so much to offer for all ages. A beautiful beach ...
...outskirts of the town. Bournemouth has an average selection of shops, all within easy walking distance of each other. Particularly noteworthy (i.e. shops which are not found in every other town under the sun!) are Borders Bookshop, Shakeaway Gourmet Milkshakes (heaven!) and the recently opened New Look superstore. You may not think this is worth writing home about, but it is worth a look just because it is HUGE! Shopping in Bournemouth is a pleasant ...

Fancy A punch Up

Disadvantages: insulting prices poor value nasty atmosphere in town centre at night

...in what was once beautiful Bournemouth I now find myself living within an hours drive of this metropolis. Even allowing for chilhood nostalgia(things often look better through the eyes of a child don't they) Bournemouth has gone decidedly downmarket. It still has some grand hotels,Hilton,Highcliffe and The Royal Bath to name but three ,however,if you want to experience rip off Britain at its finest you won't be dissapointed in Bournemouth. The ...
...justified in a place like Bournemouth when you can rest your swede in the Shangri La in Kuala Lumpur (one of the worlds top ten hotels) for £80.00 per room per night! The really offputting thing about Bournemouth is the agressive and numerous individuals begging for cash on the streets from early evening onwards. Im lucky in that my husband is built like a brick .... house otherwise I would have been forced to abandon a recent 7pm sojourn through ...

Great For A Short Break

Advantages: Loads to do
Disadvantages: Very busy

...from a short break to Bournemouth with my boyfriend, so I thought it would be a good time to right something about it. We were initially going to go abroad, but being poor students, we dont have very much money, and decided to stay in the country. I chose Bournemouth because I've heard some great things about it, and I must say I really enjoyed it (helped a lot by the hot, sunny weather). Living in Brighton means its just a 1½ - 2 hour drive, and ...

Theres something to suit all tastes and all budgets. Well what is there to do? You're all thinking. There is something for everybody. Bournemouth ...

What a wonderful place

Advantages: in th UK, gret Beaches, fun for all ages
Disadvantages: none

Bournemouth usually known as the area where most people come and retire, this statement couldn’t be more wrong. I have lived in Bournemouth now for the past six years, four of those spent as a student at Bournemouth University, and the other two working in the area. Bournemouth has the best kept beaches in England, stretching from Boscombe to Sandbanks in Poole, approx. 10 miles of golden coast line, they are also blue flag beaches, and are ...
...there is much more to Bournemouth than just its glorious beaches. The pier in Bournemouth provides shows and entertainment in the evenings, usually supported by a celebrity, also there are shows held in the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC), it has just held Riverdance!. The BIC also host live concerts and has a swimming pool, sauna etc. The main gardens in Bournemouth are immaculately kept, with large open space to sit, and relax. A recent ...

Get rid of the OAPs

...on a second, was it Bournemouth that you saw in that list? Yes it most certainly was, the sleepy seaside retirement town has well and truly come alive! Firstly, to deal with my brashness, I know what you're thinking- that's quite a harsh subject title! And yes I agree that it is, as the older members of our community are truly valuable and as valuable to any ecosystem as anybody else! But- this is exactly what the Bournemouth Council seem to have ...
...that has been erected in Bournemouth town centre are pubs, restuarants and trendy bars. New and very stylish establishments have been popping up more often than the Beckhams have new hair-dos. This fact is certainly a positive one for the young people of the town which has an estimated population of around 200,000. It only takes a glimpse of the town centre on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday night to hear the young 'boy racers' driving round ...

...of itself in 1998/1999, when Bournemouth transformed from Grannyville into a Brighton-beating resort town. It used to be a seedy sports bar. Now it is one of the highlights of the Bournemouth bar circuit, if a little past its prime. LOCATION ---------- Slam is not in the best location. I liked the old Slam better. It was more posh and more upmarket. Now a lot of the sofas have been removed. I don't think they serve food anymore either (although I have quit going there in the day time). Nowadays Slam is more clinical, having been redesigned to look ...

The new Bournemouth

Advantages: beach nightlife shops
Disadvantages: I live here

Bournemouth has finally changed over the last few years, I have lived here all my life except 5 years at uni, finally the town is coming out of the ""dark ages"" with clubs and pubs given extended liscencing laws and the nightclubs allowing everyone in (not just members which was a ruling on clubs that stayed open til 2 am) and being allowed to stay open til 2 or 3 am without restrictions that were causing the town to stagnate. Another reason the ...

During the day we have two blue riband beaches ...

Beautiful Bournemouth

Advantages: lively nighlife, lots to do, beaches
Disadvantages: can be expensive

I moved to Bournemouth in Octber 2000, as I am in my first year at uni here. My first impressions where that it was a town that seemed to sprawl out for miles and miles....with lots of 'mini towns' within. After spending a number of months here I really do like the place. I am looking forward to spending the summer here, but even now, whilst it is cold and cloudy, there is a lot to do. The main beach and the pier are excellent for long walks (I'm ...
...What I like about Bournemouth is that there is something for everyone. There is space, with the beach and the gardens. Then on the other hand there is good shopping and a good selection of nighlife and other attractions. The bars and clubs can be expensive and I am sure that they will go up a lot come the summer. But you can be sure that there is something to do every night of the week. Being a student I know about all the cheaper nights and so ...

Disadvantages: Run by geriatrics

...of attitude perveys most of Bournemouth society, and manifests itself in local bye laws like the fact you cant get anything to eat after 1am as everywhere is locked up tight as a drum, though some clubs are open until 2am, many close at 1am. The other side of Bournemouth is it's a University town, and such is full of students. Much of the nightlife is catered for mostly the under 25 scene, and not much in the way of Drinkers pubs. There are a few, ...
