Beautiful Brittany
Review of Bretagne (France) by orlando

Advantages: Beautiful area with plenty to explore
Disadvantages: Windy beaches but good for surfing

Here I am on this dark, damp November evening and I am thinking back three months to August, when the sun was shining and the days were long. I am particularly remembering a really nice place in France where I stayed for two weeks. Why France? It was about this time last year that my friend and I were discussing where we would like to venture for our holiday 2004. It had been a little while since I had taken the offspring abroad, and had only ... Read review

FAMILY FUN, with a bit of culture thrown in!
Review of Bretagne (France) by lollie67

Advantages: Great for kids, full of history, unspoilt countryside and fabulous beaches.
Disadvantages: You will need your car to get the most out of it.

Way back when, on holidays past, my hubbie and I only had ourselves to please. We could book holidays at the last minute, go pretty much anywhere we fancied and when we got there all we needed was a good book, a patch of sand by the sea and a decent bar close by, to be happy. Now we have two wilfull and lively boys in tow our holidays need to be very, very different. For a start our holidays need to be planned well in advance. The requirements ... Read review

Bonjour? *shows money* "Aah bonjour!"
Review of Bretagne (France) by wbafcben

Advantages: Not too far away from England, lovely scenery, interesting culture, great weather (July 2005)
Disadvantages: Not loads and loads to do, it's full of ignorant French people, language confusion

Eagerly awaiting the return of the computer and the glories of a fast speed internet connection, I couldn't wait to get back into my normal routine today! Just this morning, we were on the night ferry, heading back to the Promised Land. But it was a super trip, one that I can honestly recommend. For a fortnight holiday, me, my brother, my Mom and Dad basked in the beautiful sun's rays on the west coast of Brittany, near Nevez. We were camping at ... Read review

celtic heart, celtic soul, you must go there.
Review of Bretagne (France) by sandrine29

Advantages: beautiful, untouched and natural
Disadvantages: unlikely to reach 30degrees centigrade in the summer!

The French call Great Britain 'La Grande Bretagne'. Brittany is known as 'La Bretagne'. I guess we could say this is little Britain. However apart from a name I must stop any comparaisons there. Ninety-two miles across the sea(from Plymouth to Roscoff), lies the most beautiful land of endless yellow beaches, undiscoverd villages and a countryside untouched, leading you to believe you might just one day bump into a druid or even Asterix! My first ... Read review

A load of bull
Review of Bretagne (France) by jackie27

Advantages: Picturesque and charming
Disadvantages: Very like England

...from Cherbourg to Dol de Bretagne and the road goes through some of the loveliest parts of France you could wish to see, all the houses being lovingly safeguarded by beautiful roses and rhododendrons and sporting shutters which lend them a homely country cottage feel. Many of the houses are made of the delightful Breton stone and are truly splendid. Coming to France always makes me very happy and this time was no different. Our destination, Dol ... Read review

A year in Petit Bretagne
Review of Bretagne (France) by dave27

Advantages: Relaxing
Disadvantages: Rains a lot

...environment. Even the name Bretagne describes its connections with Blighty (Grande Bretagne). It was known in the time of the Celts as Armorica (“the land of the sea”) for good reason because the place abounds with myths and legends of towns and villages which have disappeared into the ferocious English Channel and it shares with Britain the love of Arthurian legend. The beaches of Brittany are beautifully clean and fresh, as is the water, although ... Read review

Two weeks holiday for fifty pounds
Review of Bretagne (France) by Suse

Advantages: Cheap, sunny, relaxing
Disadvantages: We couldn't stay longer

That's right - two years ago four of us spent two weeks camping in Brittany for the princely sum of just £50 each. That included the ferry crossing from Portsmouth to St Malo (we took one car), one weeks camping at each of two different sites in the Finistere department and free bike hire at both sites. We went for the first two weeks in September, which is right at the end of the season. I looked around on the internet for similar deals only a couple ... Read review

The magic of Bretagne
Review of Bretagne (France) by mixture

Advantages: beautiful countryside, great food, relaxing, not expensive
Disadvantages: when it rains, it rains. definitely need a car to get around

The magic of Brittany lives on. As a holiday venue, there is everything here for both young and old. All ages are catered for. Whether you are here just to relax and enjoy some of the most beautiful countryside or you are here to party hard at one of the famous events, the 'fest-noz', I am sure you will have a wonderful time. Brittany is steeped in history, with existing evidence of the ancient Celts and of the long straight roads built by the ... Read review

Dinard- Brittanies jewel
Review of Bretagne (France) by rowemg

Advantages: quiet quant very french
Disadvantages: not a party town

Dinard is on the north coast of Brittany in France. It is small town that once was the favourite holiday destination of Queen Victoria. If you are looking for a party holiday this is probably not for you. However if you want a relaxing time in a beautiful location then this could be juat right. The bars are friendly and the locals are as well if you make the effort to try a little french. Tyhe food is some of the best in France and so in the ... Read review

WHAT ITS LIKE LIVING IN BRITTANY
Review of Bretagne (France) by thingywhatsit

Advantages: I love the place
Disadvantages: Too many English property speculators.

I have asked Ciao to change the catagory so if you want to downrate it because it is in the wrong catagory, please don't rate at all. When I first came to Brittany 15 years ago, my French was schoolgirl french and I was too embarrassed to speak it at all. Then I made my mind up that unless I could speak the language, I could not live here. Little by little, I made the effort with the local people and they welcomed me into their homes. I remember ... Peaceful Brittany
Review of Bretagne (France) by marcb

Advantages: Pretty, quite resort with plenty to do.
Disadvantages:

Having just returned from two weeks in Ragunez, a small resort in the south of Brittany, I would recommend this location to anyone. There is a wide choice of accomodation, from well equipped camp sites (tents or mobile homes) through self catering cottages to small hotels. Prices vary and it is worth checking out what you want. There are plenty of beaches around, most of which are sandy rather than pebbles. If you are prepared to hunt around, ... Read review

A perfect holiday
Review of Bretagne (France) by sandral

Advantages: A perfect holiday location not too far away
Disadvantages: Weather can be unpredictable - like England

Brittany in the North West of France has weather very much like England and the countryside and coastline are very much like that of the South West of England. We stayed in a Gite in the Blavet valley near the town of Hennenbont. Nine of us stayed in the Gite which was on a site with two others. The site provided a swimming pool, tennis court, swings, sand pits and plenty of open grassed areas for children to run around. The pool was fenced and there ... Read review

morlaix : s'il te mord, mords les
Review of Bretagne (France) by joji

Advantages: small and friendly
Disadvantages: perhaps a bit too quiet for some

Morlaix is a small toxn in the west of britanny, it is easily accesible due to it's position on the TGV line between Brest and Paris. You can also fly to Brest with RyanAir at very cheap prices, just by your tickets when the offers are on. Don't worry if you miss an offer as they are renewed daily and the flights are usually around the same price. Morlaix is a very pretty breton town with a port and very impressive viaduct going through the centre ... Read review

Roscoff
Review of Bretagne (France) by krm123uk

Advantages: handy for the port
Disadvantages: expensive, and very touristy

Brittany is a fantastic holiday if you want to get away from it all and see France, without a long drive. But be warned -Roscoff is not 'real' France. In fact it is more like an extension of England! The signs are all in English, the restaurants are not quaint little french bistros -but rather English fish and chip shops, and bars. In fact -there were more people there speaking English than French. The place is full of the stereotypical English tourists ... Read review

Advantages: Great fun
Disadvantages: ?
