I need the Loo...NOW

Advantages: Lovely Pictures
Disadvantages: Not suitable for wheelchair users!

...book a room at the Britannia Hotel, Birmingham, a three star hotel, but try as I might no-one would answer the telephone so I ended up booking another ‘posh’ hotel according to some at the Ciao meet! I am glad I was not actually staying overnight, when I realised that there was no disabled facilities. And on the Saturday of the 'Meet' I needed to used my wheel chair as my back was hurting and walking distance for me is now very difficult. **The ...
...to the website for the Britannia hotel, there was a Restaurant & Bars. Well the bar that we were asked to use was on the Mezzanine (floor). Great, when the hotel was full and there was only one lift working! I was left high and dry (well sweaty!) on the second floor, reliant on others to get me drinks from the open bar on a lower floor. I was also unable to try the restaurant as the manager was not avalible till 7pm and no other member of staff ‘could ...

A Bloody Long Rant About The Hotel From Hell

Advantages: Couldn't fault the company :-)
Disadvantages: Where do I start???

Some of you may have already read my account of the Ciao meet, but for those that weren’t there – or for those who prefer their opinions to be a little more understandable and a little less up-in-the-clouds-somewhere-in-Doolallyville, I will combine my review of this hotel with a few more bits about the meeting. Hopefully this will please everyone ;-) Like Kazziebears, I am not used to staying in hotels very often, so the Ciao meet was ...
...looking forward to it. As it was, I didn’t get to bed ‘til gone 3am and was up around 8am, so spent very little time in my bed. (And no, I didn’t spend any time in anyone else’s bed either!) But I saw enough to form an opinion. Allie and I arrived there on the Saturday morning and tried to check in. We were told we couldn’t until 1pm, although this was extended until 2pm at some point later. The two women behind reception ...

Britannia Rules.....I don't think so.

Advantages: Convenient for shopping, relatively cheap...and Oh the breakfasts!!
Disadvantages: The lack of air con, the decor, the lack of communication between staff.

...op in question!! The Britannia Hotel, Birmingham…as if you didn’t know! I don’t frequent hotels as a rule, you might know that by some of the comments I have left after ops by other members who do stay in them on a regular basis, I do so enjoy reading about them, and so I had no expectations of what this place was going to be like. Of course I hoped that it would be fantastic but at the end of the day. The hotel wasn’t the real reason for me heading ...
...thing that really let the Britannia hotel down was the unbelievably oppressive heat in the whole place. The coolest area I found was the stair well and that was when Sandrabarber was taking Moose and I down to the cellars, or so I thought, when we went to get drinks!! The conference room that we were given exclusive use of was the hottest of all; thank goodness then that the whole of Ciao didn’t turn up, all those sweaty bodies…ewww!!!! They did ...

Welcome to The Hotel California

Advantages: We were there !!!!
Disadvantages: We were there :(

We are all probably going to say the same things but I guess due to being one of the select group wheelchair users my opinion may be a little different. ** Enter Stage Left*** I arrive with a sense of trepidation . I do not know what put more fear into me , actually meeting Trampus or the 'ramp of death' (TM) that they had in a bid for wheelchair access. Sarah is actually a pussycat, the ramp however remained to be the spawn of satan. Magically ...
...The coffee table was also positioned just at the bottom of it. Huzzah. I was hoping to drink myself under a table not be launched over it. In fact it the ramp-table vaulting could have been a worthy game. Marks out of ten for my star jump anyone? *** Ring my bell*** Having survived the perils of the said ramp, I went to reception to be told that they needed to sort my room out for wheelchair access. From the length of time it took them , I could ...

What a craphole

Advantages: We had the Ciao meet there, some of us didn't pay much for the rooms.
Disadvantages: The seagulls, the clock, the heat, the fire hazards, the crap service, oh just knock the place down and be done with it!

Well, you must have known this was coming, how could I possibly pass up the chance to slag off this hotel? No way was this going to pass me by but as it has already been written about too many times I thought I would do it with a twist, well I nicked Deano's idea seeing as he stole my title. You see, I am almost in the Bronze brigade, hopefully after you lot reading this I will be so I couldn't just do an ordinary opinion now could I? So welcome ...
...hopefully one of those Bronzey wotsits at the end of it all. I think I must have been one of the first to book into the Sh*tannia, I had heard they didn't have too many Double or twin rooms so I wanted to get in first. I booked online, which gave me a discount of £10 on my £110 double room. £100 is not a bad superPRICEe to pay for a whole weekend I thought, I should have known then something was a bit OFFy. A few days before the actual meet I found ...

Lost In Hotel Hades

Advantages: Excellent company
Disadvantages: Too hot for comfort, short of staff, only one lift working, noisy

My first impression of the Britannia wasn't very favourable. That could have been because the instructions that the hotel had sent on how to get there from the M6 were not very good and after driving around for ages only the car park which isn't attached to the hotel could be found. We lugged our cases up and down steps through a shopping centre after Mel asked for directions and were slightly travel worn by the time we found the entrance that was ...
...then down a rather steep wheelchair ramp into a dark looking reception. We had no problems checking in, but I was witness to two of our group checking in the next day and a mix up which meant that they had been given a double room instead of 2 singles. The receptionist promised that something would be sorted for them but it wasn't and they had to rearrange things themselves - that's their story though. There were 2 lifts but one of them was broken ...

HE NO UNDERSTAND -HE FROM BARCELONA

Advantages: Easy to find, good location
Disadvantages: Phew - ummm, hot, very hot and rather incompetent

...specifically the hotel. The Britannia Hotel is huge, situated in New Street in the centre of Birmingham it is easy to get to and a great location for first time visitors wanting to be in the heart of the city. Now for the bad bits, brace yourselves! Myself and Bubblecat arrived at the hotel at about 1.15pm after a gruelling coach journey from Liverpool. We were already hot and knackered when we arrived and so were looking forward to getting to our ...
...and having a rest. Nope, after waiting at reception to check in for a while we were told that a room wouldn't be available until after 2pm so we had no choice but to make our way to the suite where the meeting was taking place and plonk ourselves down in there until we could get to a room. Second discovery - the meeting suite was a windowless, airless room above the kitchens heated to approximately 405 degrees Celsius with no bar open and just a ...
