Advantages: Central Location Disadvantages: Awful room, dirty breakfast area including cutlery, poor staff, noisey
...misfortune to stay at the Britannia Hotel during september of last year. Having stayed in a fair few hotels in my time I was gobsmacked by the appaling way it was run and feel I would like to review the hotel to warn any potential customers of the pitfalls.
My experience
I ended up at the Britannia as the company I work for was running groups regionally and the agency we work with selected the Britannia for its reasonable rates and central location. ... ...From the road the Britannia looks pretty good. Its a large stone clad old building, the sort of building you'd look at Architectually speaking, very large with steps leading up to an imposing looking revolving door. The steps are clad if Im right in my remembering with blue velvet so you walk into the lobby expecting something fairly impressive.
On entering the extreemly large lobby you are faced with a massive staircase leading up, a few sofas, ...

Advantages: reasonable price if booked in advance Disadvantages: none really
As with my previous recent reviews this forms a part of my need to get a life ethos, and even though I live a short distance from Manchester on a planned night out on the town I decided it was better worth my time staying over than drunkely seeking the nightbus home. So armed with my trusty cashback paying link to a hotelbooking site I found this one for the night.
I paid £50 for a doubleroom with no food included, the hotels standard rate is around ... ...a few days before I wanted to stay.
The hotel itself is seconds from Picadilly Gardens which is the location of a large bus station and a tram stop which runs between the two main train stations, it is also a few minutes walk from the main Bus Station in the city where the National Express coaches stop.
The hotel has a couple of bars open to none guests as well as a full complement of resturants (none guests need to book tables if they wish to ...

...on a room at the Britannia through priceline.co.uk - £180 for 3 nights in a superior suite. I noted on the booking that we would like a four-poster suite if possible, and we arrived to find we had one.
As noted by other reviewers, the reception staff were not particularly friendly. We didn't have long to wait though and we were soon checked in. There was no problem with my partner wanting to pay using his credit card, rather than mine which we had ... ...very impressive with the huge chandelier and grand staircase. Unfortunately only one of the two small lifts was working (very slowly) so we got very used to climbing the three flights of stairs to our floor. Good exercise at least.
The room was very nice, and generally clean, although one desk seat was very dusty and one had clearly been sat on by someone with no clothes on! The size and layout of the room was impressive for the price we had paid.

Advantages: Fantastic architure and history to this Grade II listed building Disadvantages: Now contains a cheap and noisy hotel
...Manchester City Centre, then the Britannia Hotel in Manchester cit centre seems to fit the bill. Unfortunately however, the rooms, atmosphere and general politeness of staff are somewhat lacking. I would recommend staying somwehere else, such as the Portland Thistle hotel next door, or the Piccadilly Gardens hotel (a short walk away). The Britannia does seem to attract most of the stag do's in town and irish football fans when Manchester United are ... ...are two bars at the Britannia Hotel - WAVE bar and Bar-Rogue, I would reccomend avoiding WAVE bar and Bar Rogue on a weekend night as it does attract a lot of unsavoury characters and trouble is commonplace at weekends, the drinks offers are superb though, with many £1 a pint promotions on throughout the week. Both bars offer food all day long at affordable prices and there is music provided by the in-house DJ's. Also located within the hotel complex ...

Advantages: Close to the city centre Disadvantages: Staff attitudes
Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a Valentine's day as there was a fantastic offer. It was a four poster suite, an evening meal and a breakfast buffet, for £130!
The hotel is very close to the city centre, and public transport. Its also very handy, when you've been shopping. There isn't very far to carry all of your bags. Upon entering the hotel, first impressions are amazing, a great staircase meets you with a large chandelier. Everything is ... ...it comes to joining the queue for reception to sign in, it is very slow. When you reach the counter the staff don't smile, and are like robots.
There was one problem with our room, it wan't a four poster suite, just a normal one. When went back down to recption, this caused a bit confusion as it was marked on the computor as a four poster suite. However the staff were helpful, and swapped our room with another, which had a four poster suite.
The ...
