FREE Flights for the rest of your life ?

Advantages: Free travel and vouchers galore
Disadvantages: You could be saving forever to get those flights!

...time, the UK's national carrier, British Airways, had launched its own version. Air Miles, set up in 1988, differs from most other programmes in that it doesn't require participants to take a flight in order to collect miles. The firm signed up a whole list of partners who give away airline miles to customers who buy their goods and services. When you enough miles have been collected there are a whole host of things to spend them on. Not least of ...
...entirely free, as you will still have to pay surcharges or taxes. Air Miles used to reward everyone who shopped and flew regularly with BA. But BA quietly moved 600,000 of its most loyal passengers into a separate scheme called BA Miles, which allows them to earn miles more quickly. Air Miles, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of BA, operates the BA Miles programme alongside its own. HOW DO THEY WORK? Whatever the scheme, the basic proposition ...

...excellent value. Flights are normally British Airways but with the 'One World' alliance, you can use them on other airlines as well ANCILLARY PRODUCTS The call centre can also offer you good rates on accomodation (of all ranges) and car hire. There is the option to exchange miles in return for money off ancillary products but it is not a good conversion rate and wouldn't reccomend it. ...to find a good deal for you. Open from 8-10 Monday to Friday and 9-5 Weekends, they are easily contactable but avoid calling right at the end of the day because they are likely to be impatient and want to get you off the phone before they go home. Also, if more than one person in the company has the same christian name, they use fake aliases which can get confusing CONCLUSION Air Miles is an excellent scheme. It is better value for European trips ...

...as other offers. The British Airways AirMiles Scheme gives you air miles as a reward for doing what you do every day - spending. My main source of generating the miles is Sainsburys. The reward points that that supermarket give you for every pound spent or special offer bought can be exchanged at the rate of 40 airmiles for 500 points. These points really add up quite quickly especially when you take advantage of the extra points awarded with some ...
...day we needed some rice.Conveniently Sainsburys were offering 500 extra points with a 4kg bag of Basmati rice. That meant 40 Airmiles! My other sources of Airmiles are gas, petrol and credit card use. We have our household gas for heating and cooking supplied by Amerada Gas.They give you an Airmile for every £6 on your bill.Petrol I usually buy from Sainsburys and of course I receive points and hence Airmiles for every fill-up.If I`m travelling I`ll ...

29 per cent package holiday discount

Advantages: good discount
Disadvantages: must shop in certain stores to collect

I was looking to book two week in Cyprus for this summer, and having recently received a flyer from Air Miles I thought I would try their in house travel agents for a quote for a holiday I had seen in the First Choice brochure - Brochure price £1482, redeem 450 air miles and the price is reduced to £1052. Quite a saving. Air Miles can be collected in the high street from Shell, Sainsbury's and Homebase plus many more specialist retailers. It should ...

I luv you AIR MILES

Advantages: free flights to lovely places
Disadvantages: to slow to collect

I have been to Paris (twice) Brussels, Stuttgart, Amsterdam and Majorca (guess what team I support) to watch the footy with my miles. Offers on hotels are very good and the staff at customer services are always trying to help. My only one point of concern is that there are only a limited number of flights to europe from Edinburgh unless you go to LHR first. Why 550 miles to Paris but 700 to London?? This eats into your miles when you have to fly ...

the way to go.............

Advantages: easy to collect, free travel
Disadvantages: limited departure airports

I have been a collector of Airmiles for several years now, and have managed to collect over 5000 miles. Mainly, my means of collection has been through Sainsburys, and this seems to be the easiest method of collection for me. This year I decided to spend some of my airmiles. I have been to Paris with my son and husband flying from Manchester to Charles de Gaulle with BA. To celebrate my husband's birthday, we flew to Jersey, again flying from Manchestger ...
...my birthday next January 2001, and again with my family. We have chosen to fly from Heathrow airport this time for a little more exitement! I still continue to collect the Airmiles, and still have some left in order to build upon. I would recommend anyone to save Airmiles if you like to travel, and with the only expense being the Airport deaprture Tax imposed by the airports, it makes for a relatively painless holiday. Soi start collecting your airmiles ...

Three different beasties.

Advantages: Free Flights
Disadvantages: Restrictions may be when you want to fly

...Family Accounts are available. British Airways Executive Club needs you to fly upgraded at least once: unless you fly with BA several times a year there is little point in applying. 2: BAmiles can be used to buy flights and other travel services only from from British Airways. Each BAmile has a value of about 0.6 pence. Your BAmiles do not expire as such, but the account is closed if there is zero activity for three years. "Household" amalgamation ...
...points count towards Silver and Gold membership and are only earnt by flying Club or First class on a non-discounted ticket. Tier points are zeroed on the anniversary date of class membership: so you have a year to get the 600 tier points needed for Silver. That equates to 7½ return trips to Europe in Club class. I have just returned from a holiday in Budapest: two weeks ago now. The lady wife and I flew Club Class return on BAmiles Executive Club ...

B A Airmiles a big con job

Advantages: none that I can think of
Disadvantages: Trying to book flights with them is almost impossible

I have over my working life saved up BA miles in order to visit my family in Australia. I have tried for three years running to book two business class seats only to be told that none were available. When I wrote to BA I received a letter back saying that these flights were only available to the select few and that I should consider going elswhere. I now have 430000 useless airmiles. I have also been told that my miles will be cancelled unless I ...
...partners, so adding insult to injury. All this is a far cry from the attractive picture that they give you when you join the scheme, as far as I can see it does not state anywhere in their literature that you can only use the miles on certain flights and that you have to be one of the select few in order to get longhaul seats. I cannot be the only person who has been conned by the worlds favourite fraudsters. ...

money off family holidays

Advantages: savings
Disadvantages: nil

As a regular traveller I try to take advantage of all types of offers from all different sources. A reliable and good source is airmiles. Collecting is easy, fron Sainsburys, Shell petrol stations, Natwest cards etc etc. The only place I really collect mine is from Sainsburys, and they soon mount up. They are a good lever for discounted family holidays as well as free air travel. I often look and then check the package holiday that I want through ...
...chance to beat the price. If they do beat the price or match it then I normally book up through airmiles and for around 400 miles get an extra 10 to 20% off the total cost of the holiday. This is particularly good if you holiday as a group or a family. ...

Disadvantages: Offers now harder to find

...to predominantly provide flights via British Airways, but in recent years they have started to include flights from a host of well-known airlines.
