Advantages Advantages Extensive route network, regular sales with good regional connections, good cabin crew

Disadvantages Disadvantages No getting away from it - the fleet is old and internally some aircraft are very shabby

In the past year I have flown BA on several flights - three times across the Atlantic along with several domestic flights on the airline. It wasn't always thus - for many years British Airways were too expensive for transatlantic flights - although my very first flight to the US was on BA I didn't actually get round to flying them there again until 12 years later. Similarly the regular BA flights I used to take from London to Brussels when my husband worked there in the late 90s ended up giving way to cheaper alternatives courtesy of Eurostar and the now defunct Virgin Express airline. Moving ... more

Advantages Advantages Superb bargans if booking fixed dates for travel

Disadvantages Disadvantages A lack of consistency in the overall product

Update details Since writing this review I made a BA trip to Warsaw. I thought it would be interesting to as well as including generic observations of the BA Club Europe produce I include a like for like comparison with the LOT business class flight I took to Warsaw in May (see my review of 21 August). I hope this will be useful both in terms of looking at the benefits of two different suppliers of a direct business product on the same route and also in terms of giving what I think proved to be a fairly typical snapshot of a BA flight. It is true that if you use a single airline a lot you are ... more

Advantages Advantages A good standard of service

Disadvantages Disadvantages Current cut backs in service provision.

British Airways. I recently took a trip with British Airways from Gatwick airport to Venice Marco Polo airport and Heathrow to New York and Bangkok. Who are British Airways? British Airways is the National carrier of the United Kingdom although some might say after the ethnic painting of the tail incident and Margaret Thatcher covering the awful design with a tissue, this painting incidentally cost millions of pounds and was a completely ridiculous idea. Richard Branson’s Virgin airways may be considered a massive competition to BA. BA has a very comprehensive destination system flying to all ... more

Advantages Advantages Good prices, on-line check-in

Disadvantages Disadvantages Hot cabin, poor quality food

When I first heard there was a possibility of going to Sydney, I started digging around to find out what flights were available, and the likely prices. At that point, BA had an offer on for £448 return, unfortunately, I had to wait for permission from my line manager, and by the time this had been resolved, the offer had run out. I took advice from anyone willing to offer it, look at masses of websites, airlines and agents including Expedia, Opodo, Cheapestflights, last minute, Singapore airlines, Qantas, Virgin and BA to name a few. However, what immediately became clearer is that in the main ... more

Advantages Advantages Good Staff, clean planes

Disadvantages Disadvantages None (apart from Heathrow)

As part of my job, I have to do a fair bit of travelling. 2 years ago I did 5 continents! Last year wasn’t too good, as most of my travel was driving in Europe. Anyway this year I have had to do rather a lot of work in various places, so I have quite a lot of return flights around Europe. I now feel pretty well placed to write an op on British Airways, having probably made over 200 flights with them all round the world (I would say over 95% of them with BA). This op will really concentrate on the latest flights I have been on, and my experience of BA on these flights. ** Who are British ... more

Advantages Advantages A long list of superlatives

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not always the cheapest

*A touch of class* Looking at some of the comments raised in earlier reviews for British Airway and the surprisingly low average rating given to them by fellow reviewers, I can't help but wonder whether we're thinking about the same company. My experiences of BA have been, for the most part, exemplary and they remain one of my favourite airlines to fly with. I've always found the service to be polished, with a good range of features and for me a flight with BA is always a more distinguished event than a budget flight. *British Airways, serving the world* For most people, the BA experience will ... more

Advantages Advantages Very good new product for intercontinental flights, good service to premium passengers, nice lounges.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Terrible meals, small seat pitch in Economy, rather unfriendly staff in Economy, outdated service philosophy, wrong strategies.

British Airways boast themselves for "defining 21st Century Air Travel” with a range of new products and services. And whilst BA is indeed a very innovative airline, it still hasn't invented the right medicine against its greatest flaws: wrong focus and bad attitude. And bad taste, I should add. If we believe the official BA lingo, then everything about this airline is new. New Concorde, New First, New Club World, New World Traveller Plus, New World Traveller, New Club Europe. Since my first flight with BA in 1993, I have received endless marketing material, letters and mails from them about ... more

Advantages Advantages Friendly service, cheap flight, got there!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Iberia-operated sardine can on the return leg!

I flew BA from Heathrow to Barcelona (BA 482, Euro Traveller) with four friends last September. Being rather impoverished students, we booked via BA's website at £100 each, including taxes. This would be the first time I'd flown since going to Indoenisia in 1997 at the tender age of 14, and considering one of our engines blew up and our airline (Garuda Indonesia) had a fatal crash the day after out flight, I was rather anxious. Fortunately, there was nothing to worry about. Be warned this is quite a long review, as I find it reassuring to find as much information about flights as possible ... more

SEE BOTTOM FOR UPDATE Flying History ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For someone who doesn't fly on business (and who is permanently broke), I fly a fair amount. You see, I've moved around a bit. I am originally from NY - I went to university in Oregon, Junior Year abroad in Munich, took a holiday in the UK, met and married an Englishman, had a daughter and made a home here in London. I have therefore flown 'cattle' (coach) class quite a bit, both with and without children. I have flown (amongst others) TWA, Air India (that was interesting), Dan Air (defunct), Lufthansa, USAir, Piedmont (now part of ... more

Poor old British Airways, no longer enjoying the position of Brits first choice for air travel. It all seems to have gone downhill for them since Thatcher tried to cover their modern art tail design with a hanky she produced from her gigantic bag. I don't know why she didn't just concentrate and melt it with her demonic powers. Anyway things have been going considerably worse since the twin towers toppled and BA have announced their decision to ground 10% of their planes and sack 7,000 staff. The recent terrorist attack had an obvious effect on their business, several days of no cross Atlantic ... more
