We're all going on a British Holiday.

Advantages: Less fuss than holidays abroad, plenty to do, suitable for all ages, you can take your pet
Disadvantages: British weather may spoil your fun, but not the kids fun.

...as I do the Great British Holiday? I've put it in capitals because at one time travel abroad was limited to the middle classes and above. There was such a tradition about the British seaside many years before I was born when all classes of people stayed in guesthouses or hotels leading to the wonderful Victorian architecture that some seaside resorts still boast today. I was born in 1952 and still remember when some resorts had their traditional ...
...in Cumbria called Lakeland, a British Holidays site. It was my first caravan holiday for about ten years and I was amazed at the difference in the quality of the site itself and the caravan. Lakeland is situated near Grange-over-sands in an ideal position to tour the Lake District. We had booked a ten-day stay in September for about £120 for the accommodation booking our leisure passes in advance, which made a saving of £2 per person on a £5 pass. ...

The Malvern Hills are calling

Advantages: Countryside, hill walks, great shopping on hand
Disadvantages: Limited nightlife unless you travel into Worcester or Birmingham

If you're looking for somewhere to go in the holidays this summer you could do a lot worse than hit the sights of Malvern. Malvern is an old Victorian spa town nestling in, yes the Malvern Hills. In days gone by people would visit the town from near and far to partake of its mysterious waters, which were claimed to clear all manner of ills. Having visited the local Water Museum I think the miraculous properties were derived more from time out from ...
...water but what the heck….it made Malvern rich and famous, as it still is today for it's bottled water. If you are a water connoisseur you can actually collect your own Malvern Spring Water from St. Anne's Well. It's a bit of a hike up a hill but the views are great and they provide a café for a recovery stop. Aside from Water, Malvern is best known for it's hill walks and has a thriving hill walking tourism industry. It is the home of Elgar (famous ...

Join the Bradley Club

Advantages: great for kids, plenty to do, activities for all age groups
Disadvantages: no child minders

...Butlins, Haven we finally found British Holidays ( a partner of Haven). My husband would admit that he has not been a great fan of caravan parks but then this holiday was for the children and not for us. So after much deliberating we decided on the holiday park at Burnham on Sea, Somerset as it is an area of the country we have not visited and there was plenty to do nearby. SETTING This holiday park is set around a lovely fishing lake in beautiful ...

UPDATED A family tradition .

Advantages: A family run camp with it's own private beach and excellent facilities .
Disadvantages: Maybe price . I think it's reasonable , but thay's my opinion.

I must tell you about an excellent family run holiday park. It’s called Pentewan Sands and is situated near St Austell in Cornwall. My family have been going they’re for their holidays since 1965 and in those 37 years a lot of improvements have been made. The camp itself is nestled in a small quiet bay and is surrounded by countryside and benefits from a private beach. Another benefit is that no pets are allowed so that you never have to worry about ...
...for over 60 years and is still run by the Tremaine family. It spans an impressive 32-acre site, which has 120 luxury caravans and 500 touring pitches. Nearby are the lovely fishing village of Mevagissy, a large indoor market that opens Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, The famous Eden Project, The Lost Gardens Of Heligan, Charlestown , Carlyon bay and St Austell town which boasts all the normal shops you need. There is a Large Asda supermarket and ...

There's a Feeling I Get

Advantages: For families of all ages
Disadvantages: I can't come here on holiday 'cos I live here

In other cyber-worlds I call myself Lamorna. There’s a reason. In another life my late husband and I had a ‘Special Place’ in Mounts Bay, Cornwall, called Lamorna Cove. The fishing villages of Penzance, Newlyn and Mousehole and Lamorna Cove, were colonised in the 19th. Century by artists who painted in the ‘Open Air’ scandalising people with their Bohemian way of life. Since my life changed dramatically in 1991 when ...
...Place’ as I prefer to keep the memories in a private compartment in my mind. I have another ‘Special Place’ in my life now. Lyme Bay, West Dorset, a small harbour or haven called West Bay. I live here. West Bay is a small resort set between the cliffs of Lyme Regis to the West and the ancient Roman Town of Dorchester to the East, with the town of Bridport, one mile inland. The West Bay Harbour was built in 1722. Ship building in ...

The Isle of Wight

Advantages: Local, same language, variety of things to do
Disadvantages: cant name any

Well having just spent a week on this lovely Island, which is the first time I have been back to the Isle of Wight for 14 years, the beauty is still there. We stayed at Ryde in a holiday park but my posting is on the actual island as the holiday park we stayed at was a let down. Anyway, to start with the Ferry trip from Portsmouth to Freemantle is nice, the kids enjoyed as well as the adults who went. The only down side on this was that it took ...
...Portsmouth to the port. The fault lied with the Ferry's as one of them had a mechanical breakdown. Travelling through Portsmouth, I would recommend following the signs for the Historical Boatyard as this would save a lot of travelling through the town. Anyway the boat trip takes about 40-45 minutes to reach the Isle of Wight - enough time for a quick drink and bite to eat although everyone has the same thought so I would recommend taking your own ...

Camber Sands - No Moping Around Allowed

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful way of getting away
Disadvantages: You are only limited by your own confines

...weekend break at the Great British Holiday Park Camber Sands in Camber, nr Rye, just past Hastings, East Sussex. We booked our holiday through The Sun newspaper promotion £9.50 holidays. Originally there were eight of us girlies, all fired up and raring to go. On the day of departure we had shrivelled down to five. The best five of the pack may I add. By the time we paid for linen, heating and entertainment passes the grand total of our weekend ...

cracking chapel!!!

Advantages: family orientated
Disadvantages: none!

The only dilemma i have had so far with this review is how to start it!!! If you only knew how passionate i am about this place you would understand. I will start by saying since my birth ( a few years ago!!!!), i have only missed out on three years of my beloved holiday of choice, Chapel st Leonards. Twice in my teens, when it was soooo uncool to go any where with your mum and dad, let alone leave your friends for a whole week and go to the boring ...
...at the time we normally go and i felt fat and not really in the mood for seaside antics!!! I now,(as i'm racing towards my thirtys), go once a year with my own family (my husband adores the place as much as me, and my kids are not quite old enough for teenage tantrums!!!),and after refusing to go with my mum and dad all those years ago actually book the holiday around my dads cov week holidays!! We have also corrupted my best friends and now they ...

Rockley Park

Disadvantages: Not being able to book the same van, ah well...

...of a copy of the British Holidays brochure and after a little deliberation we set our hearts on Rockley Park holiday village. There were several choices of accommodation available, caravans or chalets. We chose a Silver rated van, which had 3 bedrooms, duvets and pillows supplied (bring your own covers). Studland bay The Isle of Purbeck

Advantages: The Sunniest Place in the Uk
Disadvantages: Maybe the Weather

Purbek to Studland bay Most people choose to take their vacations abroad, in the search of the sunnier climates, not like here in the UK, especially this summer of 2008. The seaside is a relaxing, informal escape from the pressures of the daily grind. Most people choose the abroad option. I would like to let you in to a special secret. It is possible to find paradise on our diminutive island. Seek and you will find. No. Not Alabama or Louisiana; ...
...as far south as you can get; Well almost. The coastal region of Purbek is full of unspoilt, sun-drenched, sandy beaches and natural splendours. This is the place to be. You can't get any closer to the Mediterranean than the isle of Purbeck. For short, the Jurassic coast. at these times, dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures lived in the region. Purbek was much further south and was made up primarily of muddy swamps and lagoons. There are ...

Fun For The Young, Or The Young At Heart

Advantages: A great holiday for families with young children.
Disadvantages: There was not a great deal available for teenagers.

Myself, my husband and three teenagers, one of which being my 14 year old daughter, Went along to Thorpe Park which is in Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire, for a weeks holiday last Easter. Church farm Chichester _ a great place!

Advantages: Lots for kids to do, realxed atomsphere, friendly staff
Disadvantages: caravan could have been alot cleaner!!

We have just returned from Church Farm Chichester after a four night break (24th May 04 ) which we paid £80 in total for which inculded linen and passes to the entertainment. On arrival we thought the park looked very nice lots of flower boxes and the park was very well landscaped. We picked up the keys to the caravan and although we did not have high expectation as we paid very little we were quite surprised that the caravan looked pretty good it ...

On further inspection though I was very disapoionted by the standard of cleanliness as it was obilous to my that the van had not been cleaned the carpet was very dirty, there were black hairs all over the toilet and sink, grated cheese in the cutley draw and the oven was flithy, the bread bin had mouldy bread in it!! I straight away went to reception ...
