...I only go to Browns for afternoon tea but I have also ordered an avocado and bacon salad and a home made lemonade. The salad was quite nice but it wasn't mixed enough for my taste. It was basically a bowl of lettuce with some bacon, avocado and dressing dumped on the top. The bowl was too small for me to mix it myself and the dressing hadn't coated any of the leaves underneath. But there isn't really much that can go wrong with such a simple salad ...

...very qualified to comment about Browns because I worked there as a temporary chef a couple of years ago in the St Martin’s Lane branch. I had not been near the place again until a few weeks ago when a friend and I stopped there for coffee and cake. (She had coffee and cake, I had herbal tea!!) You know what you are getting when you go into this restaurant. This is also true when it comes to the food preparation and production in the kitchens. ...
...said, fairly standard to all Browns branches. Browns is expensive, but I don’t feel it is a rip-off for the fresh food that is on offer here. I've been to Browns a couple of times and there is no getting away from the fact that it is pretty expensive, but the food is absolutely exquisite. I visited with a huge group of work colleagues and we all had the pre-theatre dinner, which is two courses for £10 per person, you have to eat quite early in the evening, and the menu is limited, but this is probably the cheapest way of eating at Browns. ...to appeal to everybody at Browns from the traditional steak pie to pasta and light salads, although the food doesn't get particularly exotic there are several vegetarian options available. I went for goats cheese with croutons and rocket salad and I have to say that it was absolutely sublime. The desserts are to die for, I had a lemon torte which just melted in the mouth. Browns is now open in Brighton too. Its a bit small and a bit expensive but worth the money as the food is gorgeous. It is always a good place to start a night out. The staff are really friendly and there is always the chance to bump into a few stars! Famous people can usually be seen in there as it is a bit chique!!!
