London's major royal home Review with images

AdvantagesMagnificent building, with plenty to see inside

DisadvantagesAdvance booking advisable

"...in Surrey, we decided that Buckingham Palace had long been at the top of our list of ‘haven’t seen and must see’ attractions. One fine Saturday in August, we went at last. My wife had tried unsuccessfully to book online first thing that morning, and having presented ourselves (including myself, a party of six aged between 83 and 4) at the ticket office soon after 10.00, were told that all available tickets (which are timed) had been sold for that ..." The most famous address in England. Diamond review Review with images

AdvantagesFantastic insight into the history and workings of our Royal Family

DisadvantagesCan get very busy with fellow tourists.

"==Buckingham Palace.== I recently visited Buckingham palace making this my fifth visit to the palace taking relatives or visitors to the palace when they have stayed with us. On this occasion it was a special treat for some friends who had never been and had wanted to go. You might think that it would not be interesting having been a few times. Nothing could be further from the truth. The first time visiting the palace you are absolutely in awe of ..." Read review

Cat goes to London to visit the Queen. She was not there! Review with images

AdvantagesGreat for those not yet invited to a Garden Party! Some stunning art works and architecture

DisadvantagesSouvenirs VERY expensive. No photos inside

"Our visit to Buckingham Palace on 9th August 2010 When the Royal family finally decided that they were going to open the doors of this beautiful building to the paying public for two months each year to help pay for its upkeep we decided it would be a very interesting visit one day. Many years later in 2010 and we finally got around to booking this visit on lastminute.com. It cost us £17 for me and my husband got a concession and paid £15. Just ..." Read review

I went to London to visit the Queen...

AdvantagesGreat audio guide

DisadvantagesExpensive

"...of the state rooms at Buckingham Palace. It was written two years ago so while much of it will still be relevant some things have changed. In less than a month I will be moving away from London and this was possibly my last weekend here so a friend and I decided that we must do something very touristy. I looked up Buckingham Palace on the internet only to discover that it is very expensive and you only get to visit the state rooms, not the actual ..." Read review

A Werewolf in London Part 2

Advantagesaudio tour

Disadvantagestoilets only available at the end of the tour

"NAME OF LOCATION: Buckingham Palace, perhaps the most famous building in the world, one of the London homes of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her consort, HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip. BACKGROUND: Buckingham Palace State Rooms have been open since the early 1990s. My parents went to see them during the Golden Jubilee year celebrations and I had tried to get on Gee Vee Travel’s next trip that year, but it was fully booked. However, ..." Read review

Buck House

AdvantagesGreat English place to see

DisadvantagesNone

"My husband and I visited Buckingham Palace about two years ago now and I definitely have to recommend it, it is well worth a visit and makes you quite proud to be English when you are there. As we all know Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the British Monarch. In recent years they have taken the decision to open up some of the state rooms to the public to keep up with the times and promote themselves as a forward thinking monarchy. ..." Read review

Opulance and splendour - who'd have thought!

AdvantagesA must for Royalists and those interested in architecture, history, antiquities and historic interior design

DisadvantagesTiring, a lot of walking

"We visited Buckingham Palace last year during our trip to London. This was part of our plan to show our children their heritage and teach them a little about what it means to ‘be British’. The first bit of advice I would give is to pre-book your tickets, preferably for around lunchtime. If you plan your day in advance you can ensure you are there for the changing of the horse guard (they don’t do it every day). You can watch the pomp and ceremony ..." Read review

I'm off to visit the Queen!

AdvantagesFantastic rooms, brilliant audio guide, no rush to get around fast, reasonably priced.

DisadvantagesBoring for young children and babies, pushchairs not allowed.

"Buckingham Palace is one attraction in London which is often high on many tourists list when coming to visit London and I had walked past a few times and found myself in awe of the beauty of the building. On a to London last year I decided that enough was enough and I was going to visit the Palace and experience it's true splendour and beauty for myself. The nearest tube station is Green Park and this is where we departed. The Palace is well signposted ..." Read review

The Queen and I

AdvantagesGood photo opportunity

Disadvantagesnot much else to do

"Buckingham Palace remains a must on every tourist trail and I believe most people visiting England for the first time go there, not so much as to see it, but, to give the camera an airing. Everyone one wants to be seen with the palace in the backround and next to one of the horseguards. I am not knocking this because it has to be an essential part of sa visit to these shores. Unfortunately, it does stand rather alone at the end of the Mall and ..." Read review

Advantagesso muvh to see

Disadvantageslittle time

"...closed down. Everyone knows about Buckingham Palace, Big Ben etc, but Oxford Street is just a league of it’s own. It’s shops and buildings are so nice. We get the train down, as it’s very difficult to drive in and out of London especially if you don’t know your way in and out. You need a good few days to see the best of what our capital has to offer. I recommend London if you have never been, there is so much to see. I ..." Read review

"My visit to Buckingham Palace was suprisingly good, there was alot of pictures, sculptures, medals and brilliantly decorated rooms to purrr over! I was able to get tickets on the door(as it were!) tours are scheduled for every 15mins, and the queue goes really fast. its opened betwwen 09:30 - 16:30 (with last admission 16:15) every day 31 July - 26 September I was however sceptical about being asked to buy my ticket with gift aid so that the palace ..." "i first arrived at buckingham palace early in the morning..just wanted to see the changing of the guard. it was great. i was the guard marching in the morning sun. it was hot. i really admire their ability to stand the heat wearing such big hats or whatever that they wore on top of their head. all i could say is that they were great. i did not see any queen coming out or looking out from the window. but i did took a lot of photos at the water ..."
