I live here for almost 4 years. The people is so friendly. And its save to travel here. For Example you can walk in these city in the midnight and you can a tour with a free lance tour guide from these city. And if you want to travel trough West Sumatra you can travel from here. You can travel To Lake Maninjau for 1 hour, Lake Singkarak 90 minutes , To Kings Palace "Pagaruyung" about 2 hours, to Mount Singgalang and Merapi 30 minutes, to Padang about 2 hours. This is where you can get the bus down to lake Maninjau, and also take a trip to the Kings Palace. We befriended one of the locals, who took us to stay at her village, (Merapi), where we visited a local bullfight. She also arranged for us to climb an active volcano in the area. Be warned, this isn’t like Mt. Bromo in Java, which is an easy walk with steps up to the crater, but a fairly hard seven-hour night climb. I think it was about 2,800 meters.
