we have just come back from butlins minehead and it was excellent. the food was brilliant serving staff excellent. our only regret is we did not book longer as there is that much to see and do we could not fit it in to our 5 days. the redcoats are really exceptionally polite and helpfull when on duty or off. WELL DONE TO ALL THE STAFF AT BUTLINS YOU ARE A CREDIT TO BRITISH HOLIDAYS and we will not hesitate to visit again very soon. ...

Advantages: Great for children Disadvantages: Too much Noddy for the average grown up
...to take my daughter to Butlins for about two years, except I was either too slow or too late for the single parent deal. But this year we made it.
It was my daughters birthday and my own, so I wanted to take her to a Kiddie Paradise. Noddy, Denise the Menace and the X-Men were all there as well as the famous Redcoats. I did however expect a little bit more from the Redcoats in the way of performing though, but on the whole, they were okay.

The seven day Butlins visit was enjoyable but I have had enough of Noddy and Noddyland for quite a long time. The food was really quite edible to my amazement and their fudge cake is delicious.
If you are looking for a nice break with the kids, this is a great place to come although I do feel that seven nights is too long, you could fit everything in in four days. ...

...child I remember going to Butlins Minehead for our annual holiday and having a whale of a time. The old series of HI DE HI is a real memory shaker as far as I am concerned. However, would there be enough there to keep my two extremely fussy teenage boys happy?
Well,we arrived and got through the trauma of checking in and made our way to the chalet. What a pleasant surprise, the chalet was more like a small flat,no sleeping in the lounge, separate bedrooms ... ...was expensive,
although of a good quality.
I have visited most of the holiday camps run by different firms and I have to say that Butlins was worth every penny.I think they are getting to grips with the next generation and their needs, but can you ever please a teenager? ...

...2 day stay at Bognor Butlins with wife and two children aged 10 and 12.
Bought super saver pass on top for £10 which pays for a cinema ticket ( choice of the latest films), a proper bowling game, go karts and the adventure golf. This is very good value considering the price of cinema/bowling where I live. Rooms were spacious and clean. The Blues Brother show in one of the themed bars was as entertaining as shows in the west end we have seen ( Mary Poppins/ Lord of the Rings/ Wicked) and we saw Chico which was good for a laugh. ...

...took my family to Skegness Butlins for a weeks self catering holiday and I must say at first sight of our accomodation I wasn't over impressed, we had a 3 bedroomed chalet far enough we did book basic accommadation, but it was a bit dirty and a few things broken, the toilet seat was cracked and our kettle didn't work, we did report these faults to customer service and recieved a new kettle. They had a great family entertainment lounge which was a lovely size and plenty of seating, there was activities like face painting for the children and they were selling balloons and all illuminated gadgets. The entertainment staff were fantastic and had the children joining in with all the party ...

Just been to Butlins Minehead for the first time. We have always been abroad before but with a toddler and a baby decided to give Butlins a go. We had a silver room with dinner bed and breakfast. First of all, if you are used to hotels be prepared, the accomodation is basic ( it makes Travel Lodge look like the Ritz!) but clean and the beds are on the hard side. If you've got a matttress topper take it! The food is acceptable, hygienic and the type ... ...selection.
The best thing about Butlins is the entertainment there are tons of things for the children to do included in the price and it is really family friendly. The shows on centre stage are first class, the best on resort shows I have ever seen. Other reviews have moaned that prices on site are expensive and we thought they were very reasonable for drinks in the bars and pizza hut etc (we're northerners as well!), the only thing that is a rip ...

Ive been going to Butlins for around 5 years now..
And have always found it very very good value for money - the first time we went was cos it was just so cheap.
When we got there, we realised it was so different from what we thought it would be...Hi-De-Hi style! Ive been to all three now..
So ill start with the worst:
Minehead..
I really didnt like Minehead at all, We went around Christmas time, which i suppose didnt help at all! But the place ... ...Has to be the worst Butlins holiday ive ever had! But, i have to say that the rooms were very clean! Moving on, Bognor Regis, I found this pretty good - but the rooms where soooo poxy, we always stay standard accom at Skegness, and so booked the same at Bognor - but the standard of standard is so much lower at Bognor, so we had to pay for an upgrade to Silver - i cant remeber how much now.
Which was so dirty, we had to go out to the supermarket ...

We went to butlins in minehead. We will never go there again. . Great for entertainment if you dont mind queuing, Very expensive on most things (ie drinks, food ect) , Very little for under 5s to do unless you want to spend a fortune in the arcade.
We had a four day break in from oct 3 - oct 7 2007 in standered self catering ground floor apartment. We paid an extra £10 so we got ground floor because we had four children in our group under 5.
The ... ...a fair bit smaller then butlins but had good evening and daytime entertainment and you could park vertually right next to your accomdation. The standered was basic but well presented and very clean. The staff were very helpfull and your halfway in between minehead and taunton so alot to do. We are going there again next year. NOT BUTLINS
Be warned, go at your own risk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ...

I have been to Butlins many, many times and admit that I am a member of the Premier Club....
Butlins are not that horrible, dirty holiday camps / open prisons that they used to be. Gone are the nobbly knee competitions and in come the Skyline Pavillions, keeping us dry and warm even when a mini tornado is outside.
ACCOMMtADATION
There are 4 standards of accommadation which is either Self Catering or Half Board, where Breakfast and Evening Meal ... ...of shops selling loads of Butlins themed stuff- all in all a lot of potential 'mum, i wants' but remember you can get rid of the kids for a couple of hours at the kids clubs......
ENTERTAINMENT
The entertainment is OK. Some nights you think 'Wow they were good'. Others, such as nights when Zodiac are on you think 'A performing bin bag could have done better!' A bit hit and miss really!
PRICES
This is really where Butlins fall down the prices ...

Quick review of Butlins
Read the negative and had to add a positive here. Been to Butlins Minehead three times now - going again next week and I can't wait. I have two toddlers and you cannot do better for family entertainment. To make sure this is an accurate review please note we always go Gold Class which enables you to eat in the Yaught Club. The food is fantastic - yes most of the staff are polish, but they are so customer focused it is ridiculous! I think they must have daily awards or something. End of the day, a holiday is what you make it - previous reviewer didn't mention the free pool, funfair, nearby beach etc - they clearly had a bad experience but not one that I have ever shared! ...

Quick review of Butlins
Went to Butlins (Bognor) for the first time ever with my wife, 4 year old daughter and 2 year old son. Some of the staff need English lessons. We booked the Silver accommodation which was shabby and in need of a good refurb, outside was smelly and grotty, we upgraded to Silver-plus straight away, there was a world of difference. We went all inclusive and found this to be an uncivilised affair, not because of Butlins, but because of the majority of the clientèle, a lot of rushing, pushing, and general bad manners. Butlins provided a dreamworld for our kids, they LOVED it, the rides, the shows, the redcoats, the swimming, everything. We'll take them back, but we'll go Gold accommodation next time. ...

After going to butlins in the early 90s we were looking forward to returnig. maybe we have moved on but the place has seemed to have gone downhill.
We stayed in the midrange gallery accomodation which was scruffy, garishly decorated and showed little

The entertainment in the evening was very good and varied, the price of drinks was a disgrace. We noticed ... ...quality. the harry ramsdens is just awfull

Advantages: Kept the children happy. Disadvantages: Overcrowded. Beds very uncomfortable
We took the kids for a quick half-term break to Skegness. If you love queuing and standing this is the place for you. Every venue is too small for the amount of people, we have spent the last three days standing at every cafe or entertainment place, it was an absolute nightmare! There is a culture whereby some people get to the venues early and sit tight for the entire day leaving no opportunity for the rest of us to enjoy any of the entertainment.
... ...not enough to justify the expense and the standing around involved. The chairs in the main Skyline Pavilion are cheap plastic garden one's so it is particularly irritating to see how few are provided for such large crowds.
An example of the mentality, one show featured a performing dog, it was sickening to see an animal humiliated for so called entertainment, at one stage the dog had his ears fastened with elastic bands in order to get a laugh. ...

Everyone has heard about butlins and the history of it so i deceided to go to the skegness Butlins and found i did not enjoy as much as i thought i would. Advantages: great facilities, lots of fun Disadvantages: cold, small rooms, terrible half board food
I used to go to Butlins almost every year when I was a little girl back in the 80's and loved it. Needing a cheap holiday with my boyfriend I decided we could go away in this country and I happened to see an advert for Butlins and booked it.
We went to the Minehead resort in Oct 03 and stayed in half board Silver chalet.
My mum warned us "it'll be cold", "it's shabby" but she was wrong!
The accomodation was small but clean and nice and bright. ... ...of us and we only needed a bed and a shower really! The half board food I have to say was absolutely vile. I wouldn't let pigs eat this as slops, I lost 9lb the week we stayed there! But the decor in the restaurant was nice and there was a lot of choice it just wasnt edible. The facilities were really good, lots of things to do in the day despite the cold weather and it being term time--the swimming pool was probably the best bit. I would say avoid ...
