I've just been to Butlins.. Now I need a Holiday!

Advantages: Great fun for kids...Nice food and plenty of it!
Disadvantages: Very noisy, crowded lots of queues and kids everywhere.

...have some lovely memories of Butlins Skegness and Clacton as a child, I also enjoyed staying at Butlins Skegness, Minehead, and the Butlins hotel in Brighton and Margate later in life when my children were growing up. Prior to this latest holiday I hadn't been to Butlins for about 15 years. The last time being when my oldest grandson was a toddler…. We found the accommodation very shabby and not very clean (so we never went back again) That is ...
...camps…. It was decided that Butlins was the one for us. So in May of this year we booked a week for September… ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The reason we booked Butlin's We didn't want to actually be cooking all week, and to eat out at these kinds of places can be very expensive. Lots of Holiday camps only offer self-catering, we didn't want a caravan this time, as we were taking my mum with us, she has had a stroke, and a knee replacement (that hasn't ...

HI-DE-HI !

Advantages: Cheap! Lots of entertainment, party atmosphere
Disadvantages: My addiction to the teddy bear machines!

...can book future holidays at Butlins whilst you are there, and this is who I spoke to about my late booking. Initially I went through to a voice mail which asked me to leave my number for someone to call me back as all the representatives where busy, but since I'd taken their number from customer services, I thought I'd just call back myself. I tried a couple more time, each time getting the voicemail, and although I was convinced nobody would call ...
...a small map from the Butlins website, and we found it no problem. The journey from Essex took about 2 hours, and once you got close to Bognor Regis, Butlins was well sign posted. Checking in When we arrived at Butlins, we drove up to a security box at the entrance to the park. The security guy took our booking reference number and directed us towards a car park. As we was a late booking, we parked up and walked over to the guest services, where ...

Butlins Minehead...It Rocks.

Advantages: Great fun, lots to do, well themed, brilliant location, very atmospheric
Disadvantages: Expensive on site, get fat from all the drinking and junk food.

Now, this review of Butlins Minehead, despite it being advertised as a family holiday complex, would probably appeal more to 18year olds and people round that age region, "young adults", due to the nature of my party and our activities. This in itself shows the versatility of the place, it caters for pretty much everyone and a fantastic time can be had by all. I went to Butlins Minehead for 7 nights during July of 2004. I was 17 at the time, and ...
...on our first holiday parent-less, Butlins was perfect as we couldn't afford to go abroad. We got sent a confirmation pretty quickly, and as the time drew nearer, we got sent details of what to do on our arrival day. It all seemed pretty clear, we were allowed on the complex from 12 midday and check-in was at 4:00. No problem! On the day, we set off from Bristol/Bath area for the 1hr40min journey. The complez was signposted from quite far out and ...

...and (B) We can enjoy Butlins earlier! yay. Standard and Silver can check in about 1ish i think but you can't get into your room till 4pm. Gold and Deluxe you can get your room card at 2.30pm, now when i say that time i mean that time to the nearest second. You can walk in at 2.25pm and they all sit there behind their little computers tapping away as if your not there, im sure they do it on purpose to wind me up and then as if by magic 2.30pm comes ...

Butlins Minehead - Fun Fun Fun

Advantages: Entertainment, Location
Disadvantages: Noisy, crowded.

...I received a call from Butlins asking if I wanted to upgrade to Silver Plus, which were newly decorated chalets with better TV's, this cost £36 but was worth it to have a new clean chalet. The chalets terraced, the rows are quite close together with a strip of lawn inbetween. The boys referred to it as 'our hut' as it reminded them of the prefab huts at school. There was not really any room to relax outside. Once inside the rooms were basic, but ...
...on it. LOCATION Butlins is situated right opposite a beautiful sandy beach. Minehead is a ten minute stroll away. It has a pretty high street and harbour. Lots of restaurants, tea rooms. A lovely peaceful garden called Blenheim Gardens with a bandstand and putting green. An old fashioned station with working steam trains. Right next to Butlins is a large Tesco and a McDonalds. Tesco is cheaper then the supermarkets on resort. Minehead is a great ...

Butlins Minehead - The Fun Never Ends!

Advantages: Lots to do for people of all ages
Disadvantages: Don't want to go to bed at night and certainly don't want to come home!

My family and I started going here in 1992 and went again 2 years later and then virtually every year after that, until 2003! So, we've had plenty of time to try most of the activities and facilities mentioned in this review. In 1992 my family consisted of myself and my husband, my eldest daughter aged 7 and my son aged 4. In 1994 I had another daughter. So, we've had experience of facilities for lots of age groups. As well as the usual weeks, mid-weeks ...

There are also Arena Breaks with concerts featuring celebrities such as McFly, The Tweenies, Chartbusters Live (Girls Aloud, Rachel Stevens, Simon Webbe etc) It's no good telling you a price as there are many variations and always many special offers, so it would take forever to explain. The Redcoats Must Be Sponsored By Red Bull

Advantages: Great fun, not too expensive, not too far to stagger back to your room after a boozy night out!
Disadvantages: Aimed at kids therefore a regression of age takes place; it could be months before I reintegrate into society!!!

...Butlin opened the very first Butlins Holiday Camp in Skegness in 1936. The appeal of low price family holidays hit a nerve with the British public and the popularity soared. Camps were soon opened in Clacton (1938), Filey (1945), Pwhelli and Ayr (1947), Mosney (1948), Bognor Regis (1960), Minehead (1962) and Barry Island (1966). During the early years, the camps did make more of a passing resemblance to “Hi de Hi”, with early wake up ...
...a little thin and the Butlins Empire was sold to Rank Leisure. The new owners began their streamlining and remarketing by closing four of the camps and renaming the others: remember Starcoast World (Pwhelli)? Somerwest World (Minehead)? No it didn’t work, did it? By then, Butlins was a non-runner in the tourist industry. By the late 90’s, something drastic had to happen, and it did. They sold all but three of the camps and started to ...

Sexy weekend or family fun....Butlins have it all

Advantages: A quick and convenient short break, lots of fun and plenty for your money.
Disadvantages: Self catering is an expensive alternative if you eat on the camp.

...we grab for the Butlins brochure, work out how soon we can afford to get away, and then run for it as fast as we can, as soon as we can. The purpose of writing this op is of course to share with you my personal opinion about my holiday and hopefully to give you all the information you might need to decide if this is the type of break that would appeal to you. I think the most effective way for me to do that is to separate it out into sections.I ...
...saying...Bloody freezing! We choose Butlins for a number of reasons. 1) They are easy to book with and from experience we have found that they can usually accommodate our needs at very short notice. They do short breaks which is what we tend to choose if we need a breather. In fact Butlins are getting more popular for their short breaks than they are for their weekly ones. 2) There are a lot of things thrown in for the price, entertainments, amusements, ...

Best for the kids

Advantages: brilliant for the kids
Disadvantages: can spend more then you plan for

...weekend, we all went to Butlins in Bognor Regis (when I say all of us there was a total of 12 including myself and my daughter). Bognor Regis is a small town by the seaside, and is only an hour and a half from London by car. It has been years since I went to Butlins and all has changed since my last visit. I will try and explain the best I can as I’m not to sure of prices as my darling partner paid for everything. *** Accommodation *** ...
...For a long weekend, Butlins is the ideal place to take the children, but be prepared for lots of expense. The side stalls alone were on average £2 a go!!! I personally wouldn’t like to spend any longer than a weekend there, but purely because I like to go abroad!!! Marks out of 10, I would give Butlins an 8. ...

Great family fun at Butlins Minehead

Advantages: Good range of entertainment
Disadvantages: Expensive

We booked our holiday to Butlins through the sun newspaper using one of those holidays from just £9.50 per person with the additional charge of £60 which covers entertainment passes and bed linen etc, it cost us a total of £98 for 5 days (mon - fri) - this was two adults and two children and a baby sneaked in for free. We were allocated a standard two beroomed apartment which you can upgrade before the start of your holiday if you wish but we didn't ...
...signposted from the motorway and butlins was signposted from within about 5 miles although to be honest you spot it miles away. There were two car parks although most people seem to get sent to the north car park which is just a little further along the sea front, these are monitored by security guards in a little white hut who do check for wristbands when you have been off site. The next thing you see once you've parked is the pavilion, this is ...

Butlins at Bognor Regis - good for entertainment

Advantages: It was fairly close to where we live
Disadvantages: too noisy

...having read many reviews about Butlins in Bognor Regis that were not at all good, with only the odd one saying a few nice things, I was really dreading my time there. However I have been very pleasantly surprised indeed. At the beginning of the year I decided to save the tokens from the Daily Express newspaper for a short break to a choice of venues around the South Coast. After completing all the forms and sending the relevant tokens, a cheque ...

Butlins: how many chavs can you fit in a tent?

Advantages: Great for children or chavs
Disadvantages: Bad food, accomodation, prices

...had never been to a Butlins resort before, so when my husband found a great deal on the internet, we thought why not, looks like fun and booked for 4 days in May, half board for the bargain price of £99 for both of us. Shortly after booking, we had a phone call from butlins offering to upgrade our accomodation to silver for a small charge, which means we would get a shower and also maid service. We chose to do this. After looking forward to our ...

Gosh is it time to go home?

Advantages: lots to do, plenty of fun, reasonable prices
Disadvantages: Can be far away

Having just returned from Butlins at Skegness I thought I would write about our experience! This is based around having young children under the age of 5! Butlins at Skegness is on the A52 road and is very well signed posted to find it! It's not far from Maplethorpe! It says in the brochure that you can see the main pavilion from 7 miles away. It took us to be about 3 miles before we started to see the top of it and that was coming thru the centre ...

Over the years things have changed to accommodate the changes in life, but one thing that has stayed the same is the Famous 'Redcoats' who are the entertainment staff at Butlins! We chose to go to Butlins as it looked as though there was lots to do with young children and that our 3 year old would be well catered for in the entertainment side ...
