This is an absolute gem of a traditional Barcelona cafe, right on the Ramblas, serving food and drink all day in the most charming art nouveau surroundings where you can rub shoulders with the locals reading the complimentary newspapers. There is outside seating with umbrellas for drinks on sunny days.
The staff are unfailingly polite , even when the tourists have had a few too many of the wonderful Martinez brandy (7 euros a shot) and are getting ... ...everything from toast, croissants, eggs etc through to the Spanish favourite of churros (biscuits) dipped in thick chocolate, fabulous fresh orange juice squeezed before your eyes. Later they serve a good range of traditional tapas, simple dishes and delicious cakes and. They do the best sangria in the city - a proper alcoholic mix - in various sizes. Try the Cava sangria, a white version with that bit of fizz, which comes in a huge glass (or jugs)
