Go visit mummy

Advantages: Amazingly beautiful and containing one of the wonders of the world
Disadvantages: crazy drivers (could be an advantage I suppose)

...Possibly the best thing about Cairo is having someone there to do absolutely anything. You so much as mention in passing that you are thinking of moving your sunbed, and someone's there for you, you pull out a cigarette ad lighter is in front of you. Shopping in Cairo is fun, but you have to watch for people trying to rip you off. Papyrus is possibly the worst thing to try and buy cheaply because an A4 sized painted piece that costs under 20 english ...
...but papyrus go a Papyrus Museum- there they show you how it is made, how to spot a fake, and you can buy papyrus from them too. Remember haggling is a way of life over there- never buy anything for the first price you are given! If you are planning on visiting the pyramids (as you probably will) can I warn you that I thought they would be cold inside because there is no light in there, but they are really hot inside because of the number of visitors. ...

Tour the Pyramids - hassle included free of charge

Advantages: Beautiful sights, rich culture,
Disadvantages: Lots of hassle, pick pockets

...to go sight seeing to Cairo and in particular visit the Pyramids at the Giza plateau. Ever since I was young I had wanted to see these great sights. So I thought - brilliant and jumped at the chance. I had been advised by other crew members to avoid taking large amounts of money and jewerelly as I may have become an attractive target for certain types of individuals. The bus ride from Port Said to Cairo was 3 and a half hours, if your doing something ...
...a book or something to keep you entertained. The bus was modern and included a toilet and excellent air conditioning, which is a must as the temperature can raise very quickly. We were warned on the bus by the local tour leader to avoid talking to any of the locals, the reason being the will try to sell you something and will sometimes not even take no for an answer. The tour group running this particular tour were good, as they also provided two ...

Arab Hell Hole?

Advantages: History
Disadvantages: Heat and heathens

...the Nile" had been set. Cairo was to be my first stop, and it was a truly unforgettable experience. Not only do all Egyptian men appear to drive taxis, they all appear to drive them in uniformly opposite directions to that which you would expect as a Westerner. This renders your position as a passenger to be terrifying, and your position as a pedestrian to be nothing short of lethal! The city is hot, and tourists are continually being inveigled ...
...the natives are criminals, for Cairo seemed to me to be one of the safest places I had ever walked alone at night, but they are instead what might be termed honest con-men. Their attempts to induce you into papyrus/perfume/alabaster factories under some pretext just their way of making money, and their 50% discount for their new friends is also fairly standard. Don't be put off, though. Giza and the other historical areas around Cairo are truly ...

Cairo somewhere different

Advantages: so much to see
Disadvantages: Pollution

...dust, density and pollution of Cairo can make life difficult, but the sights and people make up for it. The Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, at the edge of the city where the slums meet the desert, are everything you have ever dreamed. The Museum of Antiquities is a jewel and a trip to the Citadel, with its views over the city, one I certainly recommend - especially at the dusk call to prayer. Don't miss the Islamic quarter. Otherwise, just soak up ...
...are a haven. Taxis are the easiest way to get around, but the buses go everywhere and a metro serves some parts. All in all very different very hot but not to be missed for a holiday with a differance . The flight from the uk is about 5 hours ...

Advantages: A good city with lots of historical background
Disadvantages: Very polluted and is very unclean, too many people

...to a secial shop in cairo on our last day in Egypt and we got some printed for our whole family. It was very cool and they were quite cheap so they made good presents for people. The pyramids are a must see and even though the city is a it of a dump you can't let this get in your way when thinking of going to Egypt for a holiday becuase it is really the land of the kings!!! ...

A day in Cairo

Advantages: It's an experience of a lifetime
Disadvantages: It's dirty, noisy and polluted

We were only in Cairo for a short time (12 Hours) but the experience was mind boggling to say the least. You have to be there to appreciate the traffic and the lack of road rules. All the drivers in Egypt just drive, there is absolutely no attention paid to traffic lights, signs or lanes and believe it or not, peak hour traffic at 02h00 in the morning. Cairo’s streets, I found were dirty and the city in general is polluted and definitely do not ...
...As I said before we were only there for 12 hours and were passing through Cairo after finishing a live aboard diving trip that ended in Hurgada and although it may sound like we did not enjoy it very much I would go again tomorrow if I had the opportunity. ...
