Advantages: Hotel next to beach - clear and clean waters

Holiday-Heaven? - No-Way! Cancun is a cheap, run-down, over-commercialised resort specifically catering for americans everything is geared to the dollar, shopping mall upon shopping mall ,very overpriced gifts, food, drinks in fact everything, not to mention the locals offering all sorts of drugs for cash in the street. ...get any decent information on Cancun itself. There is plenty about the historical sites. When we arrived in Cancun I was already annoyed by the time we had left the airport and had been told by our tourist guide that we would have to shell out around $45 each in airport taxes on leaving. Disadvantages: Infested with Americans (mainly from Caroline)

...on a wreck dive in Cancun because the instructors ignored basic safety / dive protacol. If you dive, think of your own safety first, remember your training (even if they don't) and don't do anything you feel uncomfortable with. Don't get me wrong, they are good diver masters / instructors but they can be lax on equipment, rules etc. Unfortunately, didn't see any sharks which I happen to love diving with and no turtles but I didn't expect that anyway, ... Advantages: 5* beach - when I went we even saw huge turtles coming out of the ocean in the night-time - amazing.
Disadvantages: Can be expensive - we paid £1200 for 2 people for 2 weeks on a late deal 4/5 star all inclusive hotel.

Cancun is most famous for being the place where Pamela Anderson and Tommy - Lee Jones got married. Not really a great advert for it when you consider the problems their marriage went through later on down the line!!! However there is a lot more to Cancun than the sum of its parts - as I found out in July of last year. 9 of us went to Cancun in October, ages ranged from 12 to 60. Flight was totally awful with us sitting on Manchester runway two hours for refuelling (we took off from Birmingham International). On arrival at Cancun Airport everybody’s suitcases were searched with dried milk powder being taken from visitors. I like Cancun but I love Isla Mujeres. Isla is a little slip of an island, only five miles long and 4 miles off the coast of loud brash Cancun. It is quaint, beautiful, relatively unspoilt and peaceful beyond belief. ...It is not surprising that Cancun is the favoured destination for those taking the fabled college Spring Break. It takes a lot to wake me when I'm jetlagged, but on that night in Cancun I discovered that idiots smashing glasses in the corridor outside my room does the trick, as does attempting to bash down my door - I think whoever it was somehow thought I was hiding his friend in my room. cancun is extremely touristy and expensive ,however there are 2 parts ;the americanised expensive hotel zone with the posh hotels at stupid prices ,and the more traditional mexican old town which many tourists dont bother going to.the latter is full of great restaurants most of which serve mexican food only and bbqs.this part of town is for the local mexican employees who live in cancun and work in the expensive hotel zone ,which although only a few ... ...loungers. The hotel is near Cancun town which has bars, nightclubs, restaurants and shopping markets and a 5 minute bus trip which costs around 30pence GBP to get to. The hotel staff are very helpful and pleasant for example if you are lying on the beach there is one or two staff serving your drinks so there is no need to get off your seat.
