Can I go there - Yes I Cancun

Advantages: Nice weather, beautiful scenery, spectacular wildlife
Disadvantages: Concrete jungle in parts of downtown

...added - see below. Cancun is to Mexico as Benidorm is to Spain. Despite this, we went and had a great time. Here’s the op: The place we stayed was an all-inclusive resort, the Moon Palace, so some of this opinion will relate to the specific resort. See http://www.moon-palace.com/ for more information on the resort. The flight and arrival: Very long – the longest I’ve ever been on. It took 11 hours from London Gatwick to Cancun. ...
...have your suitcases searched at Cancun airport when you arrive, and again when you leave. They don't have a scanner for baggage, other than a handheld one for carry-on luggage, so they search it all by hand instead. Including your dirty laundry on the way home, nice. So check that you have the key handy when you get there. Make sure you have enough US dollars on you when you leave to pay the exit tax, something like US$40 per person. Your hotel ...

Pity about Wilma, I loved Cancun

Advantages: Beautiful resort, loads to do, plenty of wildlife, worth every penny
Disadvantages: long flight, package bit on the expensive side, weather?!?

I went to Cancun in the middle of October last year for a two-week break with Thompson. The flight took us from Manchester to Cancun and was approx 9 hours. The Mexicans like their paperwork and therefore it took us around an hour or more to get out of the airport and begin the ten-minute journey to the "hotel zone" where our hotel the Royal Solaris awaited us. The hotel is all-inclusive and contained absolutely everything should you wish to stay ...
...Bull-Fighting in the arena in Cancun too. There are plenty of places to eat, especially if you're into Seafood and Lobster (lots of Lobster bars) but they also cater for all tastes. I spent one of the best nights of my life in Cancun at the Coco Bongo nightclub - they know how to party in style, not just with music and drink but also with live dancers on stage and from the ceiling, it was a show and a night to remember. Other great memories, which ...

Great holiday for all

Advantages: beautiful sea, wonderful Mayan ruins, top quality service,
Disadvantages: You have to come home!!

...The holiday resort of Cancun on Mexico's Caribbean coast is becoming increasingly popular with U.K. travellers each year, and with all it has to offer it is easy to see why. But Cancun has just lately developed a reputation of being a party-all-night, sleep-all-day sort of place. This is somewhat unfounded. True enough, there is a host of night clubs and bars for the more nocturnal of folk, but Cancun can quite easily accommodate those who want ...
...Snorkelling or diving off Cancun is recommended. The sort of fish and coral you might expect to see in an aquarium back home, are actually within touching distance, and the vivid colours of the marine life must be seen to be believed. First time snorkellers will be amazed, the only thing to be wary of is the reef itself, which will cut you if you brush past it as you swim. Popular snorkel sights are near Isla Contoy and Xcaret. Contoy is Mexican ...

A1 TOURIST TRAP - FULL OF COMMERCIALISED CRAP

Advantages: Hotel next to beach - clear and clean waters
Disadvantages: Commercialised, over-priced, tourist trap.

Holiday-Heaven? - No-Way! Cancun is a cheap, run-down, over-commercialised resort specifically catering for americans everything is geared to the dollar, shopping mall upon shopping mall ,very overpriced gifts, food, drinks in fact everything, not to mention the locals offering all sorts of drugs for cash in the street. We were lucky in that we booked an all-inclusive which meant that we were able to eat and drink at the hotel without having to ...
...to this resort on any other basis it would cost an arm and a leg. The resort comprises of a huge hotel sector running along the beach front one side and along the lagoon the other side (where there are crocodiles in the beach water!)it is a very touristy area, and not what I expected at all. Beyond this area, a short bus ride away (these run every miute or so) there is the old town, away from the brightly lit hotel area to a shabby, dusty place ...

CANUN WAHOOOOOOO

Advantages: its brilliant :)
Disadvantages: tipping

...have just got back from Cancun Mexico and I can honestly say its one of the best places I have ever been!!! We booked last minute and got an excellent deal, which we couldn’t turn down. When I was there Shaggy was there and snoop dog and MTV but I guess its because I was there when it was the Americans spring term. Ok so the flight is 11hours and boring but it’s defiantly worth it. When we arrived in Cancun airport you could see the heat ...
...to it you have downtown Cancun and the hotel zone. We were staying in the hotel zone, which took about 15min couch ride from the airport. In Cancun they expect you to tip when you have a meal or if they bring you bags to your hotel room. (I have nothing against Americans because I have American family but I guess its from them) J. Anyway, In the hotel zone the hotels are right on the beach so this means you don’t have to walk miles just to ...

Cancun - Don't waste your money

Advantages: The diving was excellent
Disadvantages: It's a manmade dump with overpriced restaurants and shops

...get any decent information on Cancun itself. There is plenty about the historical sites. When we arrived in Cancun I was already annoyed by the time we had left the airport and had been told by our tourist guide that we would have to shell out around $45 each in airport taxes on leaving. We chose a self catering holiday, which was a major mistake. The cost of food at the supermarkets was dearer than in the UK and we ended up spending a fortune. After ...
...If I could've got a flight home sooner I would have. I would never go to Cancun again unless I could afford to go all-inclusive and had just won the lottery because, unless you've got a lot of money to throw around you are not going to enjoy Cancun. ...

Completely recommended.

Advantages: Hot, lovely people, amazingly azure waters, great diving, fab hotel
Disadvantages: Infested with Americans (mainly from Caroline)

...brilliant staff, everything perfectamundo. Cancun as a place is really good fun, very safe, inexpensive and it's easy to take trips out to the ruins if you like that kind of thing or to go to places like Cozumel (which is beaitful with great shopping). The main reasons I went there were firstly for a Xmas break with my fiancee and secondly for Scuba diving. The diving was amazing, especially in Cozumel although I found the dive masters etc (PADI) ...
...on a wreck dive in Cancun because the instructors ignored basic safety / dive protacol. If you dive, think of your own safety first, remember your training (even if they don't) and don't do anything you feel uncomfortable with. Don't get me wrong, they are good diver masters / instructors but they can be lax on equipment, rules etc. Unfortunately, didn't see any sharks which I happen to love diving with and no turtles but I didn't expect that anyway, ...

Cancun The long haul is definitely worth it

Advantages: 5* beach - when I went we even saw huge turtles coming out of the ocean in the night-time - amazing.
Disadvantages: Can be expensive - we paid £1200 for 2 people for 2 weeks on a late deal 4/5 star all inclusive hotel.

Cancun is most famous for being the place where Pamela Anderson and Tommy - Lee Jones got married. Not really a great advert for it when you consider the problems their marriage went through later on down the line!!! However there is a lot more to Cancun than the sum of its parts - as I found out in July of last year. The flight is 8 hours there and 9 on the way back (something to do with the winds..) but don't let that put you off because as soon ...
...peak season for going to Cancun is early in the year ( march - July ) as this is when the weather is at it's most sunny and rainfall minimal. I went in the middle of July and it was just coming out of season, but although they threatened rain there was only ever a quick shower once in the morning, after which the sun soon reappeared. Having been to the Gulf coast in Florida twice, I thought I was prepared for a beautiful, picturesque beach. Let me ...

...is on my holiday location Cancun in Mexico. I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday and could easily just right a review full of praise for the beautiful Cancun. However, there are lots of things that can also make your holiday a nightmare. I would like to highlight to you the pros and the cons of a holiday in Cancun I also guess that a lot of holidays can be the same once you see my detailed analysis. ...The plane landed in Cancun at 18.35pm UK time (12.30pm Cancun) so clock adjusted and emigration forms etc completed we were set for the arrivals lounge. Cancun airport is basic compared to any UK airport and things moving along fairly smoothly. One thing that seemed to get on peoples nerves was the searching of every suitcase and bag that every passenger had. After a 9.5 hour flight this is the last thing you want! However, due to foot and mouth ...

Best Holiday EVER

Advantages: Fantastic Weather and Beaches
Disadvantages: Flight was very long

9 of us went to Cancun in October, ages ranged from 12 to 60. Flight was totally awful with us sitting on Manchester runway two hours for refuelling (we took off from Birmingham International). On arrival at Cancun Airport everybody’s suitcases were searched with dried milk powder being taken from visitors. At Tucancun Beach Hotel we found a beautiful hotel, which was between the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea and the Nichupte Lagoon. ...
...The restaurants in Cancun are varied and the are many ranges including international, Italian, Mexican, North American fast food, fish and seafood, and much more but a word of warning be careful and check prices before you go in some restaurants are reasonable, some very expensive. Also be sure if the prices are in US dollars or Mexican Pesos they both have the same symbol but it was 3 pesos to the dollar. There are many trips to go on so you can ...

Try Isla Mujeres, Cancun's sweet little sister

Advantages: True Tropical Island heaven in the caribbean sea
Disadvantages: It won't be unspoilt forever, go soon!

I like Cancun but I love Isla Mujeres. Isla is a little slip of an island, only five miles long and 4 miles off the coast of loud brash Cancun. It is quaint, beautiful, relatively unspoilt and peaceful beyond belief. Our first visit to Isla was two years ago when we travelled there as a day trip from Cancun which is how most people discover it. This year we went back for more and stayed on the island at the Avalon Reef Club, an all inclusive at ...
...has two distinct coasts, the Cancun side is a series of wide shallow coral sandy beaches with safe swimming and stunning sunset views. The west or caribbean side has rocky private coves, wilder water and good shelling. The islanders are incredibly friendly and delight in showing you their island home. The food is great and very reasonably priced compared to Cancun and much more authentic in flavour. Try the traditional Tix y Zix bbq fish (don't watch ...

Home Sweet Cancun

Advantages: Friendly community, great food, great diving sites, peaceful
Disadvantages: Damaged due to natural disasters, Hotel Zone VERY commercial

...like marmite! Cancun is well known for the place to be for spring break students for partying, clubbing..just letting oneself go. But there is so much more to Cancun than meets the eye. Obviously, when tourists think about taking a holiday, the first thing many do, is search high and low for the best hotel/resort. And yes, Cancun does offer a wide range of brilliant hotels and services in The Hotel Zone, which I'm sure is agreeable for many. However, ...
...you're out and about! Cancun offers great diving sites. In fact, Mexico is host, to the second largest coral reef after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Whilst there, I did a Scuba Diving Course - Padi Open Water. It's one of the first steps to becoming a professional diver. It was over a period of about 4 days. I have never seen or experienced anything more beautiful than the depths of Cancun. There is such a variety of different fish and sea ...

This place is hell on earth

Advantages: Cheap to fly to
Disadvantages: Hideous

...It is not surprising that Cancun is the favoured destination for those taking the fabled college Spring Break. It takes a lot to wake me when I'm jetlagged, but on that night in Cancun I discovered that idiots smashing glasses in the corridor outside my room does the trick, as does attempting to bash down my door - I think whoever it was somehow thought I was hiding his friend in my room. And broken glass in the corridor doesn't make for fun when ...

cancun makes a great base

Advantages: cheap, hot, exciting, easy to get around, quite good shopping
Disadvantages: cancun is a disaster area if you goto the wrong bit!!

cancun is extremely touristy and expensive ,however there are 2 parts ;the americanised expensive hotel zone with the posh hotels at stupid prices ,and the more traditional mexican old town which many tourists dont bother going to.the latter is full of great restaurants most of which serve mexican food only and bbqs.this part of town is for the local mexican employees who live in cancun and work in the expensive hotel zone ,which although only a ...
