I recently flew with Cathay Pacific AIrlines (CPA) from Sydney to Hong Kong. I booked the ticket through a travel agent but then checked in online. To do this you just go on their website and put in your ticket number and then you can pick where you want to sit and you are checked in. Obviously you still have to check your bags in but it did mean I only had to get to the airport an hour and a half before take-off time instead of 2 hours so it gives ...

I have travelled frequently on Cathay Pacific airlines between the London-Hong Kong route. The times I have travelled on CPA, I have never been late and sometimes have reached my destination upto 1 hour hour early!. The on-board service is excellent with air-hostesses from all over the world not just from Hong Kong alone, although this is where the flight's are originating or heading from. I fly Cathay several times a year from Adelaide, Australia to London, going through Hong Kong. Hong Kong to London is a long flight, but it doesn't bother me going on Cathay. Nowadays you get the brand new planes which have personal televisions for all classes, with numerous channels, and games. The seats are fairly comfortable and usually I don't find sleeping a problem, they have cushioned foot rests, and the seats go back a fair way, which can ...
...food can be quite good, with at least 3 choices for each meal. The flight attendants are usually helpful and friendly as well. I've flown economy and business class, and business class is amazing. Cathay Pacific is possibly the worst airline ever. I had YVR-HKG / HKG-HAN / SGN-HKG / HKG-YVR flights booked five months in advance. At the last moment, two days before leaving (Monday night) my mother suffered from a bad fall and broke both of her wrists/arms. I was in Emergency Room most of the day Saturday. I went to the Vancouver airport that night to try to get the ticketing counter to either cancel the flight, or at least remove HKG-HAN/SGN-HKG ...
...to be faster/easier than on the phone (as CX does not provide any way to change flights, or even to change the seat, online (despite the flight being booked with them online) - it is truly operating in the dark ages; even for tickets it still insists on issuing paper tickets that one has to go and pick up in person for Internet sold tickets (won't even mail it to you - no such option offered) and does not use e-tickets as almost all the other airlines ...

Not flown with Cathy too many times and as an avid fan of Singapore Airlines I measure up the competition in terms of them being as good, or not as good as Singapore Airlines. Flying Coach from BKK to HK on my last flight my first impressions was of a lack of "plushness" which you find on Singapore airlines as I walked through business class, but back in coach the seats are much the same as any other airline...except the footrest, now footrests ...
...has the worst I've ever come across, they seem to be designed to make you not want to use them, badly shapped maybe they only work out if you have bare feet.... The personal TV in the back of the seat was not as good as the one on the Singapore Airlines, picture quality often broke up and worse was to come as no films were shown on the flight...just sitcoms.... The food arrived...okay I've had worse on Aeroflot and British Airways but it was pittiful ...
