Cham Bam Thank You Maam.....

Advantages: Home of 'Extreme' mountain winter sports, fantastic views
Disadvantages: Queues, BIG queues! Quite expensive.

...didn't see Chamonix at it's best, so this op is obviously less than glowing in it's praise. However, Chamonix has long had a reputation as a fine winter sports venue. If you like 'Extreme' it's the place to be. If not, it's still a great place for a winter holiday! ...

Chamonix

Advantages: Great skiing, great public transport, loads of slopes, amazing views
Disadvantages: slightly expensive

...back from a trip to Chamonix and really can't think of a better place to go skiing/snowboarding! Having read some reviews before setting off to Chamonix for the first time, I wasn't sure what to expect. People say the transportation between resorts was poor and that the lift system was bad. Here are my views: Positives: * BREATHTAKING views of Mont Blanc * Great free transport to all resorts around the valley. Before going, I read quite a few ...
...up from the centre of Chamonix and take you right up to the ski lifts in the different resorts. I can imagine them being crowded in peak season, however, at this time of the year they were absolutely fine! * Friendly staff at the lifts - they were all really helpful and happy to assist with any questions/queries/advice etc. * An assortment of pistes with different difficulty levels. In contrast to what people have said in other reviews, there are ...

YEEHAA

Advantages: Great snow, great mountains, great fun!
Disadvantages: You have to know how to ski and the prices are nearly as high as the mountains.

...30, I went skiing in Chamonix with my family. Living in the English Midlands, so I do not get a chance to ski often, but consider myself an intermediate to advanced skier (I can do the easier Black Trails). It was close to one of the best ski trips that I've ever had, however there were some things that I wish I had known about before I went. THE GOOD First off, Chamonix is known around the world for some famous things. First it is the home of ...
...Finally, and maybe most appealing, Chamonix is no exception to the French's obsession with naked women on skis, and it is hard not to go by a table of postcards with out one or two catching your eye. Most of all, Chamonix is world renowned for its skiing, it is arguably one of the best ski resorts that I have ever been to, its trails are almost always covered in deep powder (or at least no ice), and most of the time, it is not freezing cold (this ...

Chamonix? Mais Oui!

Advantages: Les Balcons du Savoy hotel excellent, great variety of skiing, good snow, great nightlife...
Disadvantages: Buses slow and full

...really liked the fact that Chamonix is a town in its own right rather than made simply for the skiing and the nightlife was great (once we found the hot bars!). We didn't eat out much as we cooked in the flat but there are plenty of restaurants - particularly serving local specialities such as Tartiflette and Fondue. The variety of places to ski was brilliant - if conditions were not great in one places somewhere else would be good. Not that conditions ...
...The only downside to Chamonix was the length of time we had to waut for buses - they need to be far more frequent. However hiring a car would solve this and really it didn't detract from the holiday. And girls - there were about 8 men to every one girl. Bear this in mind... ...

Off-piste galore

Advantages: Lots and lots and lots of varied runs to choos from, busy night life, plenty of nice places to shop and eat
Disadvantages: Rather expensive

I visited Chamonix for a week's snowboarding in February this year and was very glad I did. Chamonix is a lovely place, though rather expensive, and offers some brilliant off-piste action. Being only an intermediate snowboarded I can't really comment on the more advanced areas of the Chamonix valley but the intermediate areas I visited were wonderful (if you're going check out Le Tour, one of my favourites). I'd been on one snowboarding holiday ...
...amazing. As I've said Chamonix was rather expensive, but there were plenty of great places to eat and drink that didn't stretch the budget. Beer in a bar was between £2 and £3 a pint, but as long as you weren't picky you could get drinks with a meal for less. There were plenty of nice places offering a massive variety of foods, including lots of Italian restaurants and a tasty Indian place. The method of getting to the pistes was an interesting ...

A definate must!!!!!!

Advantages: fantastic for skiers and boarders
Disadvantages: abit costly

I came back from Chamonix in January and had a wicked time! Its offers a wide range of slopes for all capibilties. Its is great for both skiers and boarders. I can just about snow board, and am ok on skis and i found the resorts excellent. I took my snowboard with me, and then hired some blades while i was there. The prices are reasonable and they have alot of variety. Le Savoy is great for learners and chidren. This consists of a couple of little ...
...the hang of!!! Brevent is good for all capibilities, but i advise confident people to go to Brevent. It is quite a long ride up in the telecabin, but well worth it! This has mostly red and blue slopes! Some are very steep at points. I spent most of my time at Le Tour, which is great for all the family. It is quite small, but has quite a few nice long blue runs which i had the most fun on. There is also a main red run that takes you right down to ...

Chamonix

Advantages: Variety and excitement for skiers of all ability
Disadvantages: Chose to get the car out but ski buses serve all aeas

We stayed in Chamonix Easter week 2008. My Dad who is 77 skied for the first time at le Savoy and le Tour. My Mum (74) did not ski but had a great time. We stayed in a 3 bed apartment 'Le Beau site' in the centre of Chamonix with fantastic views of Mont Blanc. We ate out a couple of times, once at a traditional restaurant where my mum ate trout caught in a local river..delicious.. and at Valentinos where we ate superb pasta and salads with very friendly ...
...the Montenevers rack and pinion railway to the 'mer de glace'. It was worth the 300 steps to see the glacier close up and have a photo with Alaska the smelly dog in the ice caves. Maybe next time we wil join the skiers on the Vallee Blanche. We also visted Italy via the Mont Blanc tunnel and walked around an almost deserted Courmeyer sustained by superb crepes de sucre from a window take away in a narrow street. Two fantastic days skiing at les Houches ...

You don't have to be a skier to enjoy

Advantages: picturesque scenery, lots to do, great for activities and especially in winter its buzzing
Disadvantages: the weather - it can be cold and rainy even in summer, a little quiet if you're not mad on activities

Chamonix Mont Blanc is a small town situated in the French Alps, in the valley below the highest mountain of Europe giving the town its name - Mont Blanc. A population of approximately 4,000 is buoyed by 1,500 tourists a month. The location makes the town the perfect place for climber and bikers in the summer and skiers in the winter but for those for those of us who believe holidays should be taken at a more leisurely and less energetic place the ...
...includes entry into the glacier. Chamonix is 100km (60 miles) from Geneva and roughly the same distance from Annecy, both towns worth a visit if you have a car and are easy to find on the motorway system. Now the Mont Blanc tunnel has been reopened it is a quick trip into Italy. The town itself is only small and would probably be hard to find enough to occupy yourselves for a long period of time without a car, unless you don't mind lots of reading. ...

off piste in chamonix

Advantages: great spot to ski
Disadvantages: dangers hidden

am a ski instructor and spend time teaching off piste skiing and have had alot of fun in my time. It is true that skiing hors piste is exhilerating and does really allow you to express yourself as you would like to be. But it is dangerous and needs alot of respect, more so than any other environment as the mountains can play cruel tricks and as soon as you lose the respect you should show they can bite back with a vengence that can leave you dead ...
...guide or an instructor and always listen to his advice and if he says no, he means no as he is concerned that the snow conditions are too dangerous today, remember it is better to come back tomorrow than regret it today. Don't forget every guide or instructor wants to get off piste too and he is not doing it just to annoy you, he is saying no to protect you. Have fun, be safe. ...

Chamonix

Advantages: Great fun
Disadvantages: none

Chamonix is located right by Mont Blanc the highest mountain in Europe. This huge complex of pistes will provide you with unlimited entertainment. This resort is best suited for the more advanced because of its many hairy black runs but there are a few nursery slopes towards Le Tour a small village down from Chamonix. This area is often considered the Alpine capital of the world with a lot of difficult terrain. I the resort there are many bars, restaurants, ...

Chamon' mo fo

Advantages: Absolutely amazing place
Disadvantages: Was quite busy when i went (my fault really)

Well i went to chamonix on feb 14th 2004, half term week for most european countries i believe and with chamonix being probably the most popular area for skiing/snowboarding in europe it was buzzing. I started off the holiday with a bit of confiedence as i had already got a bit nifty on a skateboard over the few years before i went but snowboarding was different i had 2, 2 hour lessons and the teacher was really good and quite pleasing to the eye. ...
...anywhere else. but i know chamonix was amazing. the scenary was amazing and the amount of resorts around the area was brillinant there were about 5 or 6 resorts i went to and all were no more than 30 minutes drive away. The resorts all had loads of routes and off piste trails the lot, so on that side of things i was really happy with my visit. all the people were very friendly and you could tell that everyone out there was having fun. Night life ...

The original extreme

Advantages: Ski fast or go home
Disadvantages: Town is low altitude

What can you say... its where it all began in Europe. The big cliff jumps, Glen Plake and the Blizzard of Ahhs - the old school where the bindings were crap, the skis straight and boots soft. Rear entry boots, who the hell thought of them? This is where you will get blown away by not only the skiing but the views on Mont Blanc as well. Not to mention the women. I was there in the summer, happy to find the coolest MTB girls you'll find anywhere. ...
...you pull a few good turns, then you'll want to stay in this place for a long, long time. One thing though. The town is lower than Norfolk, so don't go there if the snow is crap. There is nothing more depressing than a ski town in the rain. Its like Canterbury without the Cathedral. If you go there, say hi to the place from me! ...
