I lived in Chester for 26 years before I got married and moved to North Wales, and would like to give my view on this ancient town. My review is aimed at tourists from all walks of life, of all ages and with various tastes in what they look for when visiting a town for the first time. **A Little Background Information**
As soon as the name 'Chester' is mentioned, the first thing that springs to peoples' minds is the Romans. The Romans built the ... ...with the full history of Chester because this review is intended on giving information of what the town has to offer to tourists today. The town is chock full of museums and historical centres which give endless information on the history of the place and, in my mind, it is all part of the Chester experience to look and learn as you go along. **So What Kind Of People Visit Chester?**
Every year, from April through to September, Chester is inundated ...

Chester was founded By the romans many years ago (I can't find exactly when, in either books or on the net). From what started off a small market place, gathered over the years to become a hugely visited city. Located in the north West of england, just on the welsh Border.
Shopping ~~~~~~~~ The main shops are located in or around the city Centre. It has a vast range of stores as well as well known high street brands, such as HMV, boots etc. One ... ...Chester Cathedral. One thing, you'll notice about chester is, most companies have atleast two shops in the city, so your never far away from the shop you need.
While on your shopping spree, visit the little shops, such as corner shops etc, as you'll find some of the cheaper products in them.
Restaurants ~~~~~~~~~~~ Theres quite a lot of Resteraunts in chester, thats for sure. Fatty Arbuckles, macdonalds, Burger King and not forgeting the 5 star ...

...well worth a trip to Chester by themselves - although drinking on them is forbidden by an ancient by-law. A shame, but the handful of pubs up there have more than enough history to compensate for this.
The architectural niceties are not confined to Tudor design, either. The Town Hall is a remarkable piece of work, and to the right of this are the library, which preserves the facade of an earlier building, and a 1930's Odeon cinema, built in the ... ...you're intending to stay in Chester rather than have a day there, you'd just better be obsessive about your buildings and architecture, that's all. Don't get me wrong though - this side of York and Norwich, there are very few other more pleasant places to visit in England than Chester. ...

I've been to Chester Zoo about 6 times now and each and every time I've visited it's looked totally different. I remember when I was five, This Morning had a competition on. If your name was Emma you could ring up leave your details and you could win tickets to Chester Zoo to see the new baby Rhino, who was also called Emma. Unfortunately I didnt win, but did get to see baby Emma a couple of years later and actually I think she's still there now.

On entering Chester Zoo there is a massive car park and overflow, coach packing area and Enterance Booths. It costs £13 per adult and I assume under 2's are free. There is a First Aid point by the enterance and a secon point by Jubilee Square Zoofari Overhead Railway. There are various 'Lost Children' points, cash points, baby changing facilities and public telephones situated at various places around the zoo. Everything from babies ...

I've been lived in Chester for almost one year and found it such a lovely city to live in. Certainly the ancient Roman wall makes it an unique city from all the others. always good to take a walk on the wall in the summer evening and enjoy the quiet moment. definitely quite a popular city for people to come for a day trip or shopping.
There are lots of events and festivals in July. Always busy on the town hall square and street performers are everywhere. ...

The history of Chester extends back nearly two millennia ago, covering all periods of British history in between then and the present day. The city of Chester was founded as a fort, known as Deva, by the Romans in AD 79, and named after the goddess of the River Dee.[citation needed] The city was the scene of battles between warring Welsh and Saxon kingdoms throughout the post-Roman years until the Saxons strengthened the fort against raiding ... ...considerable amount of land in Chester is owned by Duke of Westminster who owns an estate - Eaton Hall - near the village of Eccleston. Grosvenor is the Duke's family name, which explains such features in the City such as the Grosvenor Bridge, the Grosvenor Hotel, and Grosvenor Park. Much of Chester's architecture dates from the Victorian era, with many of the buildings modelled on the Jacobean half timbered style of the medieval times being designed ...

I believe Chester Zoo is the best in the country, bar none. I am sorry to those who think London Zoo is the best, but I have been to both and London isn't a patch on Chester. They have recently spent a few pennies upgrading the animal enclosures and facilities and it is much improved from a few years ago. Star attractions are: - * The elephants, in their improved home * The bat cave, where you can experience free flying bats, not for the squeamish. ... ...dogs) they where originally introduced to one compound and now are slowly taking over various bits of the zoo, but they are soooooooooo cute. They also have an animal adoption scheme, which gives you an adoption certificate and lets you get in for free once a year to meet and greet the keepers. You can ask them questions about the animals and if you want get hold some of the less dangerous ones. If you are local consider membership, which lets you ...

Chester is a nice place to come for a day or a weekend break. You have the great Architecture including the Cathedral and the city walls. Its also lovely down by the river but what I like best about Chester is the shopping and the restaurants.
Shopping
Chester has a good variety of shops. All of the popular common shops but also the unusually shops that you don't get in most local towns. Because the city is quite small in size it means that the ... ...shopping experience.
Restaurants
Chester is full of bars, restaurants & cafes. If it just a quick take away sandwich I would recommed Philpotts just off watergate street. They do top notch sandwiches & the homemade soup is beautiful. For a reasonably priced meal at lunch time you are spoilt for choice. My recommendation would be Watergates again on watergate street or Chez Jules on Northgate Street
In the evening again you have plenty of choice ...

Chester is an old roman city and a very pretty one at that I think it’s the only one to have "rows" which look down onto crowded cobbled streets. Why do people rate Chester so highly and why is it on the tourist trail.
Frankly, I do not know. I have spent quite a few days in the city over the years as a visitor and have yet to find much to commend it. It has a long history and was important in Roman times so you would expect to see much of that era saved and on show. Where is it or where has it gone. You must see the quaint shops. Well they interesting to glance at but the actual shops in ... ...expect to see some exclusive/expensive shops here but this is not really the case. The saving grace for me is that I have found a decent Italian restaurant. So, you ask, why did I go more than once? Simply, to go shopping at Cheshire Oaks. It is probably the reason you will go there more than once too. ...
