Chicago O'Hare Airport.
For some reason, everybody in the UK wanted to go to Atlanta this weekend so I could not get my usual direct Manchester - Atlanta flight. Out of a number of options, mostly going through Paris or Amsterdam, I decided to go via Chicago on American Airlines (usually I fly Delta) and I've written a separate review about that. I suppose that I chose Chicago just out of curiosity - it is not really a practical choice as it is ... ...Prior to landing at Chicago an instruction video explains, more cleary than most, what to expect when you land, what papers you will need to present and when, where the baggage is collected, how to make your connecting flight or how to get into Chicago via the train system or car rental.
We were landing at terminal 5 and in my case I would be going to Terminal 3 to get my connection. First impressions were that this was a very large, functional ...

...I find myself connecting through Chicago O'Hare (ORD) at least once a year, and it has become my preferred airport to connect in.
The airport is located in Rosemont, IL, 18 miles from the city of Chicago. By car it is approximately a half-hour drive, and there are also bus and rail links which run to Chicago and neighbouring counties. If you are going to Chicago to stay rather than connect you might want to use Midway Airport as it's closer to the ... ...clear immigration. In my experience Chicago is by far the fastest I have experienced in this respect, usually getting through to baggage claim in as little as 15-30 minutes. I have never waited longer than 45 minutes at this airport even if more than one international flight has landed at the same time.
After clearing immigration, you must pick up your bags which are generally there before you and go through customs. You then drop your bags off ...

Advantages: Very efficient - when it works Disadvantages: Fabled American Service was not there when needed
...this year,with a change at Chicago O'Hare airport.
Our plane just managed to touch down at Chicago before the airport was closed due to inclement weather (heavy rain to you and me). Chicago airport staff were transferring us (my wife needs a wheelchair due to mobility problems) and rushed our luggage into the conveyor system just before the airport closure announcement. We were rebooked to travel via Los Angles the following evening.
Result we ... ...The promised assistance ("we will put a message on the computer") at Los Angles never appeared and we nearly missed the San Francisco connection too.
The Chicago airport staff (guy transferring us and rebooking staff) failed a disabled person when they most needed assistance. Thanks guys....you really helped. ...
