Advantages: moving, makes you think Disadvantages: none
If you remember back to my last review, I took you through the great little budget hotel we found in Paris. I mentioned there that we were out to do Paris on a tight budget. We did not want to miss out, not able to take in the indulgent cultures to be found in gay Paris, just because we are not as well off as some. So we had to really research the holiday before we set off, in order to know what we were going to do, and how to get there. It was this ... ...the unknown jewels in Frances crown.
So we left from our hotel, and walked for ten minutes to La Chappelle station, where are research told us we would be able to get a train straight to Pere Lachaise. Tickets cost us one Euro fifty each, which works out at about one pound twenty sterling. That was one of the best things we found about Paris. The public transport is very good. One Euro fifty was the maximum we paid on a train, and this was true ...

I don’t usually visit graveyards for a fun day out, but this was in the nature of a pilgrimage. I’ve always been fond of Edith Piaf’s songs, and after I’d read the biography written by her half sister, Simone, I felt I understood her to some extent. Her early years were deprived and full of abuse, her health was always poor, and you could see why she destroyed herself with booze, drugs and generally hard living, and why she treated the men in her ... ...but one forgives her a lot. I was to be in Paris for a few days, and I decided to visit her grave in Père Lachaise cemetery.
You take the Metro to any of three stations : Père Lachaise, Gambetta or Philippe-Auguste, in east Paris. The Metro is easier to cope with than the London Underground, and if you plan to use it much you can buy a booklet of tickets, un carnet, to save money. The area is a bit rough according to the Parisians, with a large ...

Le Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris—Not just a place for the dead!
I have visited Paris four or five times, but each time I go I make it a point to visit Le Pere Lachaise Cemetery. “Travel to Paris to go visit a cemetery”, you ask? Yes, this is one of the most unique and beautiful cemeteries I have ever seen. Unique not only for who is buried there, for there are many famous people entombed there, but for the quiet meditation one ... ...If man has tried to immortalize himself with monuments throughout history, then Pere Lachaise visually demonstrates that fact. It is a veritable city of the dead, with rows of streets lined with elaborate mausoleum “houses”, each unique with it’s wrought iron door and stained glass windows. To walk the streets of Pere Lachaise is like walking in some abandoned city of the well-to-do and famous. Some of the older tombs are showing ...

it would be a pretty dull and morbid thing in england if you were to spend your days on holiday in cemetaries, but here it is an absolute must. the place is so quiet in comparison with the hecic life that goes on around it. inside you will see the graves of some very famous people - oscar wilde who was forced to flee england because of his conviction for homosexuality - his grave is now a shrine covered in lipstick kisses - the great mates of french ...
