THE COLOSSEUM
WOW! Has to be my first sentiment when I entered this vast and beautiful structure that the Italians have tried so hard to preserve!! (and rightly so.) I felt a little pang of history as I walked under the archways and into the main arena. A lot of the main floor is gone now so you can look down and see the labyrinths where the slaves and beasts were kept until the next show began. It was a surreal experience that I rate 5/5 and ...

Advantages: Bags of history, fantastic tour guides, beautiful views Disadvantages: None noticable
The immensity of these historical remains took my breath away before I had even begun to learn about the depth and horror of its history. Those of you who have seen Gladiator or studied Ancient Rome in history lessons may be aware of the basic features and uses of the Colosseum in its days of glory but the amount of information given during the tour intrigued and enlightened me to the full extent of its history.
Getting to the Colosseum could ...

Advantages: Great atmosphere and history Disadvantages: Steep steps, possibly a hindrance to young or old visitors
If you've seen the film gladiator you will have marvelled at Ridley Scott's colosseum but this pales into insignificance when you see the real thing. Although this ancient arena has understandably suffered over the past 2000 years its glory is still apparent. As you see it impose itself on the skyline of Rome you are drawn towards it and as you walk up through the corridors which were once home to a mass of thousands of bloodthirsty plebs you can ...

Colosseum is the first place we visited in Rome. We had been on a trip to Italy in the month of June 2007. And Rome was on the top of our Itinerary. To be frank. Words are not enough to explain how it feels to be in Rome. Such a historical place. I envy at Romans.
Coming to Colosseum so called Colosseo in Italian language a giant amphitheatre. It was used for contesting gladiators and sometimes between contesting ferocious animals themselves. ...

Advantages: History comes to life, easily got to, inexpensive. Disadvantages: Can be hard in the cruel heat of summer.
Everyone has seen a film entitled 'Gladiator'. It captured the world's imagination with graphic depictions of ancient Rome. Viewers marvelled at the traditions, were shocked at the gore and blood, and symphasised with those that dies in the name of sport.
What most viewers forget, however, is that this is absolutely real. People did die in front of huge, leering crowds and people paid money to watch this. If you visit the Colloseum in Rome, all ...

...is completed without seeing the Colosseum, a symbol of both the modern and ancient Rome. It was build for horse racing circuit and gladiatorial battles, one of the most important entertainments in the Roman Empire. Each door to the Colosseum has a roman numeral carved on it and people from different communities of the society were assigned different numbers. There is also an entrance with no numeral which was only used by the Emperor. According to ...

Quick review of Colosseum, Rome Review ofColosseum, Romeby

I have only been to the colosseum once when I was about 11 years old and even then I found it truly amazing. BUT be careful of young children trying to sell old newspapers as they came up to my mum on the outside of the colosseum and tryed to put a newspaper over her bumbag and another one tryed to steal it from underneath! It is definetly worth going to see though, just thought I had better warn everyone as it was a bad experience for me as I was so young at the time. It would not put me off going to it again though just to stand there and know I am standing next to a part of history. Please do be careful whilst walking round though!

If you are looking for a great sigtseeing weekend away in Europe with plenty of history and amazing, steeped in tradition things to see then Rome is the city for you. I was taken there two years ago by my husband and absolutely loved it. Definitely one of the best sites to see is the Colosseum for the sheer wonder of it. I would suggest you spare most of the day to see it as there is a lot to do. Firstly get there early as there are thousands and ...

Advantages: Former Ancient World Wonder Disadvantages: Long ques to wait to buy tickets.
When I visited Rome this New Year Holidays it was the best decision I have ever made in travelling. It was really worth. The very first stop which we wanted to see is the Colloseum which is called Colosseo by Italians is a very fantastic spot. The ticket will cost around 10 euros. Beware as there are plenty of theives roaming around and plenty of locals trying to cheat the travellers. We where cheated by two people dressed as roman warriors to take ...
